THE WARNING

A dramatic story of trust, friendship, and relationship conflict
INT. HONEY POT’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – AFTERNOON

The room is quiet. Honey Pot sits on the couch, scrolling through her phone. A sudden knock at the door makes her look up.

She gets up and opens it. Lauren stands outside with a serious expression.

HONEY POT
Lauren? What are you doing here?

Lauren walks inside without wasting time. She closes the door behind her and turns toward Honey Pot.

LAUREN
I came here because we need to have a conversation.
HONEY POT
About what?
LAUREN
About Wayne.

Honey Pot’s expression changes.

HONEY POT
What about Wayne?

Lauren takes a breath and steps closer.

LAUREN
You and Wayne are done. Whatever relationship you thought you had with him is over.

Honey Pot stares at her in disbelief.

HONEY POT
Lauren, Wayne and I are friends. You already know that.
LAUREN
No. I know what happens whenever you get around him.
HONEY POT
What exactly are you accusing me of?
LAUREN
I’m telling you that you need to stop contacting Wayne.

Honey Pot becomes frustrated.

HONEY POT
You can’t tell me who I can and can’t talk to.
LAUREN
Yes, I can when it comes to my relationship.

Honey Pot pauses.

LAUREN
Wayne and I are together now.

Honey Pot’s face falls. For a moment, neither woman says anything.

HONEY POT
You’re serious?
LAUREN
Very serious.
LAUREN
From today forward, I don’t want you meeting Wayne. Don’t call him. Don’t text him. Don’t show up wherever he is.
HONEY POT
And if I don’t listen?
LAUREN
Then you’ll find out how serious I am.
LAUREN
Block his number.

Honey Pot stares at her.

HONEY POT
I’m not doing that.
LAUREN
Then don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Lauren turns toward the door.

LAUREN
Stay away from Wayne.

Lauren walks out. The door closes behind her.

INT. WAYNE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – AFTERNOON

Wayne sits on the couch when his phone rings. He looks at the screen. Honey Pot is calling.

WAYNE
Hey. What’s going on?
HONEY POT
Wayne, Lauren just came to my house.
WAYNE
Lauren came over?
HONEY POT
Yes. She told me that you two are together now. She said I’m not supposed to see you anymore.

Wayne sits up, becoming concerned.

WAYNE
What else did she say?

Honey Pot tells him everything Lauren said.

WAYNE
Honey Pot, listen to me. I already told Lauren that there’s nothing going on between us.
HONEY POT
She doesn’t believe that.
WAYNE
That’s not your fault.
HONEY POT
She told me to block your number.
WAYNE
You don’t have to do that.

Honey Pot sighs.

HONEY POT
Wayne, I don’t want to be in the middle of this.
WAYNE
You’re not. I’ll handle this.

Honey Pot ends the call. Wayne sits quietly, clearly frustrated.

INT. LAUREN’S HOUSE – EVENING

The front door opens. Lauren walks inside and puts her bag down. Wayne is already there.

LAUREN
You’re here.
WAYNE
We need to talk.
LAUREN
About Honey Pot?
WAYNE
Yes.
LAUREN
I already handled it.
WAYNE
That’s exactly the problem.

Lauren becomes defensive.

LAUREN
What did you expect me to do?
WAYNE
I expected you to talk to me before going to Honey Pot’s house.
LAUREN
I shouldn’t have to ask permission to protect my relationship.
WAYNE
There’s nothing to protect.
LAUREN
That’s easy for you to say.
WAYNE
Because it’s the truth.

Wayne steps closer.

WAYNE
I told you already. Honey Pot is my friend. That’s it.
LAUREN
Then why does she keep coming back into your life?
WAYNE
Because she’s my friend.
LAUREN
And you expect me to be okay with that?
WAYNE
I expect you to trust me.

Lauren looks away.

LAUREN
I don’t want Honey Pot around you.
WAYNE
You can’t decide who my friends are.
LAUREN
Then maybe you don’t understand what being in a relationship means.

A tense silence fills the room.

WAYNE
And maybe you don’t understand what trust means.
LAUREN
So you’re choosing Honey Pot?
WAYNE
No. I’m choosing honesty.
WAYNE
I told you the truth. I don’t have any intentions with Honey Pot. She’s my friend, nothing more.

Lauren remains silent for a moment before looking directly at Wayne.

LAUREN
Then I’m telling you something too. From today forward, I don’t want you seeing Honey Pot.

Wayne stares at her.

WAYNE
Lauren…
LAUREN
I’m serious.
WAYNE
That’s not something you can demand from me.
LAUREN
Then what am I supposed to do?
WAYNE
Trust me.

Lauren looks toward the floor. Her anger slowly turns into disappointment.

LAUREN
I don’t know if I can.
WAYNE
Then that’s the real problem.

Lauren looks at Wayne. Neither of them speaks. The tension in the room grows heavier.

THE DRAMA ISN’T OVER

Three people. One friendship. One relationship. And a conflict that is far from over.

FADE OUT.
