BETHANY ACCUSES LARRY OF HAVING A PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP WITH SHARRA — LARRY EXPLODES IN RAGE!
Bethany stood in the middle of the living room, her eyes fixed on Larry as he tried to walk away from another difficult conversation. She had spent days questioning his behavior, searching for an honest answer, and wondering why he became defensive every time Sharra’s name came up. Tonight, she had decided she would not let him avoid the truth again.
BETHANY: “Larry, stop walking away from me! I need you to answer one simple question. Did you have a physical relationship with Sharra? Tell me the truth instead of making me feel like I’m crazy for asking!”
Larry stopped near the staircase. His shoulders stiffened, and he slowly turned toward her. His face showed the frustration he had been holding back, but Bethany refused to look away.
LARRY: “Here we go again! Every single time we talk, you bring up Sharra. I come home, and you question me. I try to sit down, and you question me. Is there anything you can talk about without accusing me of something?”
BETHANY: “I wouldn’t keep asking if you gave me a reason to trust you! Every time I mention her, you get angry. You change the subject, you blame me, and you act like I’m the problem. Why can’t you simply tell me what happened between you two?”
Larry let out a bitter laugh and shook his head.
LARRY: “You have completely worn me out, Bethany. I am tired of hearing the same question every day. You keep asking who I had a physical relationship with, whether it was Sharra, whether I’m hiding something, whether I’m lying. I cannot take this anymore!”
BETHANY: “Then answer me! If nothing happened, why are you so afraid to talk about it?”
That question pushed Larry closer to the edge of his temper. He stepped toward her, his voice rising until it filled the room.
LARRY: “Because I am tired of defending myself against you! You have made this house unbearable. I cannot breathe without you turning everything into an interrogation!”
BETHANY: “And what about me? Do you ever think about what this is doing to me? I’m your wife, Larry. I deserve honesty. I deserve to know whether the man I married has been faithful to me!”
For a moment, Larry said nothing. His silence only made Bethany more anxious. She watched him carefully, hoping he would finally give her a clear answer.
Instead, he suddenly lost control.
Larry moved toward Bethany aggressively, grabbed her arm, and began striking her. Bethany cried out in shock, struggling to get away from him. The argument had crossed a terrible line, turning her demand for honesty into a frightening confrontation.
BETHANY: “Larry, stop! Let me go! What is wrong with you?”
LARRY: “You did this! You keep pushing me, and you never stop! I have told you how tired I am, but you keep coming back to the same question!”
Bethany managed to pull away and stumbled backward, placing a hand against the wall to steady herself. Her eyes filled with tears, but she looked at him with disbelief rather than the anger she had shown moments earlier.
BETHANY: “You are blaming me because you chose to hit me? I asked you a question, Larry! I never gave you permission to hurt me!”
Larry stood breathing heavily. His anger had not disappeared, but the sight of Bethany standing away from him seemed to make him realize how far the situation had gone.
For a brief moment, neither spoke.
Then Larry pointed toward her, as though he could force her to accept his explanation.
LARRY: “You don’t understand what you have done to me. You keep bringing up this physical relationship. You ask if it was Sharra, and when I get upset, you say that proves I’m guilty. No matter what I do, you refuse to leave it alone!”
BETHANY: “Because you refuse to give me an answer! You want me to stay quiet, smile at you, and pretend everything is fine. But I cannot live like that. I cannot spend every day wondering whether my own husband is lying to me.”
LARRY: “Then maybe you should stop questioning me!”
BETHANY: “Maybe you should stop giving me reasons to question you!”
Larry’s expression hardened again, and Bethany immediately stepped farther away. She no longer wanted to get close enough for him to touch her. The realization frightened her: she had been so determined to discover the truth about Sharra that she had not imagined Larry would become physically violent.
She glanced toward the hallway, thinking about leaving the house. But before she could move, Larry spoke again.
LARRY: “Where are you going now? Are you planning to call somebody and tell them I’m the worst husband in the world?”
Bethany turned back slowly.
BETHANY: “I don’t know what I’m going to do. Right now, I don’t even recognize you. The man I married would never have treated me this way—or at least, that is what I used to believe.”
Larry looked away, rubbing his forehead.
LARRY: “You keep acting as if you have done nothing wrong. You have pushed me into arguments over and over again. Every conversation becomes a fight because you cannot let Sharra go.”
BETHANY: “I can let Sharra go when I know what happened. But I will not accept being threatened or hit just because you don’t like my questions.”
Her words made Larry turn toward her again.
LARRY: “So you’re still accusing me?”
BETHANY: “I’m asking you to tell me the truth. Those are two different things.”
Bethany’s voice trembled, but she continued.
BETHANY: “If you had told me from the beginning that nothing happened, and if your actions had matched your words, maybe we wouldn’t be standing here. But every time I ask, you become angry. Now you’ve hurt me, and you’re still telling me this is my fault.”
Larry opened his mouth to respond, but no words came. For once, Bethany did not rush to fill the silence. She waited, hoping he might finally acknowledge what he had done.
Instead, he walked toward the sofa and sat down heavily.
LARRY: “I don’t know how we’re supposed to move forward if you keep doing this.”
Bethany stared at him, stunned by the fact that he was already talking about moving forward without properly addressing the violence.
BETHANY: “Moving forward? Larry, you haven’t even apologized for what you just did.”
He remained silent.
Bethany wiped her tears and reached for her phone from the side table. Larry immediately noticed.
LARRY: “Who are you calling?”
BETHANY: “Someone I trust. I don’t feel safe standing here arguing with you anymore.”
LARRY: “Bethany, don’t turn this into something bigger than it is.”
She looked at him, her expression changing from fear to painful determination.
BETHANY: “You don’t get to decide how serious this is. You hit me, Larry. And you still haven’t answered my question about Sharra.”
She began dialing, keeping her distance as Larry rose from the sofa.
LARRY: “Put that phone down. We are going to finish this conversation right now!”
Bethany stepped toward the hallway, refusing to approach him.
BETHANY: “No. We are finished for tonight.”
Just then, her phone began ringing before she could complete the call. The name displayed on the screen made her freeze.
It was Sharra.
Bethany stared at the incoming call, then slowly lifted her eyes toward Larry. His face changed the instant he recognized the name.
For the first time that evening, he looked genuinely afraid.
BETHANY: “Why is Sharra calling me right now?”
Larry took a step toward her.
LARRY: “Don’t answer that phone.”
Bethany’s fingers tightened around the device. After everything he had said, after the violence and the accusations, his sudden desperation only raised more questions.
BETHANY: “What are you afraid she’s going to tell me, Larry?”
The phone continued ringing.
Larry reached out as if to take it from her, but Bethany moved away and accepted the call before he could stop her.
BETHANY: “Sharra? I’m listening. Tell me what you need to say.”
A long silence followed. Bethany’s expression slowly changed as she listened to the voice on the other end. Larry stood motionless, watching her face.
Finally, Bethany whispered a question that made Larry’s expression collapse.
BETHANY: “Wait a minute. Are you telling me that Larry never told me the whole truth about what happened between you two?”
Sharra began speaking again, and Bethany’s eyes widened.
Then Sharra said something that left Bethany completely speechless.
BETHANY: “You mean… you have proof?”
Larry suddenly lunged toward the phone.
LARRY: “BETHANY, HANG UP!”
But Bethany pulled away, staring at him as Sharra continued talking.
Whatever Sharra was about to reveal, Larry was desperate to keep it from coming out—and Bethany was no longer willing to let him silence her.
