SCENE 1 — LARRY’S LIVING ROOM — EVENING
The house is unusually quiet.
Soft evening light enters through the large windows. Bethany stands near the sofa, looking serious. Larry is across from her, trying to explain something.
There is tension between them, but neither wants to walk away.
BETHANY
You keep saying everything is fine, Larry, but I know something has changed.
Larry takes a slow breath.
LARRY
Nothing has changed. You’re just looking at everything differently lately.
Bethany steps closer.
BETHANY
Because you don’t talk to me the way you used to.
Larry looks at her for a moment.
LARRY
Maybe because every conversation between us turns into an argument.
Bethany’s expression softens.
BETHANY
Then maybe we should stop arguing.
A brief silence follows.
Larry looks down, then back at Bethany.
LARRY
That would be a good start.
Bethany gives a small, emotional smile.
For the first time that evening, the tension begins to disappear.
Neither of them notices the front door opening quietly.
SCENE 2 — THE MOMENT SHREYA ARRIVES — CONTINUOUS
Shreya enters the house carrying a small bag.
She stops immediately.
From where she stands, she can see Bethany and Larry standing unusually close together.

SHREYA
Larry?
Larry turns toward the doorway.
His face immediately shows surprise.
LARRY
Shreya?
Bethany also turns.
BETHANY
Shreya, what are you doing here?
Shreya doesn’t answer at first.
Her eyes move from Bethany to Larry.
She looks confused and hurt.
SHREYA
What is going on?
Larry takes a step backward.
LARRY
Nothing is going on.
Shreya gives a disbelieving look.
SHREYA
Nothing?
She points toward the two of them.
SHREYA
I walk into this house and find you standing this close to Bethany.
Bethany quickly responds.
BETHANY
You misunderstood what you saw.
SHREYA
Then explain it to me.
The room becomes silent.
SCENE 3 — THE ACCUSATION — EVENING
Shreya’s voice becomes more emotional.
SHREYA
Larry, you told me you were going to keep your distance from Bethany.
Larry looks frustrated.
LARRY
I never said I was doing anything wrong.
SHREYA
Then why does this look like something completely different?
Bethany steps forward.
BETHANY
Because you walked in at the wrong moment.
Shreya looks directly at her.
SHREYA
The wrong moment?
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
Larry and I were talking.
SHREYA
Talking?
Shreya glances at Larry.
SHREYA
Larry, were you about to betray Bethany’s trust?
Larry immediately shakes his head.
LARRY
No.
Bethany looks surprised by Shreya’s accusation.
BETHANY
Why would you even say that?
Shreya struggles to explain herself.
SHREYA
Because from the doorway, it looked like something else was happening.
Larry takes a deep breath.
LARRY
You can’t judge an entire situation from one second.
Shreya looks away.
For a moment, nobody speaks.
SCENE 4 — BETHANY DEFENDS LARRY — CONTINUOUS
Bethany’s expression becomes firm.
BETHANY
Shreya, Larry hasn’t done anything wrong.
Shreya looks at her.
SHREYA
You’re defending him?
BETHANY
Yes, because you’re accusing him without knowing what happened.
Larry looks toward Bethany.
He seems surprised that she is standing up for him.
LARRY
Bethany is right.
Shreya folds her arms.
SHREYA
Then tell me exactly what happened.
Bethany looks at Larry.
Larry nods.
LARRY
We were talking about everything that’s been happening between us.
SHREYA
And?
LARRY
And we were trying to calm things down.
Bethany quietly adds:
BETHANY
For once, we were actually trying to understand each other.
Shreya’s expression slowly changes.
Her anger begins turning into uncertainty.
SCENE 5 — THE MISUNDERSTANDING — NIGHT
Shreya walks toward the sofa and puts her bag down.
SHREYA
So you’re telling me I misunderstood everything?
Larry answers calmly.
LARRY
Yes.
Shreya looks at Bethany.
SHREYA
And nothing happened between you two?
Bethany shakes her head.
BETHANY
Nothing that you’re imagining.
Larry looks uncomfortable with the entire situation.
LARRY
Shreya, I understand why you’re shocked. But accusing me before asking what happened wasn’t fair.
Shreya looks down.
SHREYA
Maybe I reacted too quickly.
Bethany’s expression softens.
BETHANY
You were surprised. I understand that.
Shreya looks back at them.
SHREYA
Then why were you standing so close?
Bethany pauses.
Larry looks at Bethany.
LARRY
Because we were having a serious conversation.
Shreya raises an eyebrow.
SHREYA

Bethany almost smiles.

Yes. Very serious.
The tension finally begins to break.
SCENE 6 — SHREYA QUESTIONS LARRY — LATER
The three sit in the living room.
Shreya still appears unconvinced.
SHREYA
Larry, I need you to be honest with me.
LARRY
I am.
SHREYA
Are you trying to get close to Bethany again?
Larry pauses before answering.
Bethany looks toward him.
LARRY
I’m trying to fix the problems between us.
Shreya looks surprised.
SHREYA
Fix them?
LARRY
Yes.
SHREYA
After everything that happened?
Larry nods.
LARRY
We have both made mistakes.
Bethany quietly agrees.
BETHANY
We have.
Shreya studies their faces.
She realizes the situation is more complicated than she originally thought.
SHREYA
Then maybe I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions.
Larry leans back.
LARRY
That would help.
Shreya gives him a serious look.
SHREYA
Don’t make me regret saying that.
Larry almost smiles.

Larry leaves the room to get some water.
Bethany and Shreya are left alone.
Shreya looks toward Bethany.

Bethany shakes her head.

You don’t have to apologize for being surprised.
SHREYA
I wasn’t just surprised.
She hesitates.
SHREYA
I thought Larry was doing something behind your back.
Bethany looks thoughtful.
BETHANY
I understand why you thought that.
SHREYA
But you defended him immediately.
Bethany pauses.
BETHANY
Because I know what actually happened.
Shreya watches her carefully.
SHREYA
Do you still trust him?
Bethany doesn’t answer immediately.
Her expression becomes serious.
BETHANY
Trust isn’t something that comes back in one conversation.
Shreya nods.
SHREYA
So you’re still unsure?
BETHANY
I’m trying to figure things out.
Shreya gives a quiet nod.
SHREYA
Then I hope you don’t ignore what you feel.
Bethany looks toward the hallway.

Larry returns with three glasses of water.
He notices the calmer atmosphere.
LARRY
Did I miss anything?
Shreya takes one of the glasses.
SHREYA
No.
She pauses.
SHREYA
Actually, you missed my apology.
Larry looks surprised.
LARRY
Your apology?
SHREYA
Yes.
She looks directly at him.
SHREYA
I shouldn’t have accused you before asking what happened.
Larry nods.
LARRY
Thank you.
Bethany watches silently.
Shreya turns toward both of them.
SHREYA
But I still have one question.
Larry sighs.
LARRY
Of course you do.
SHREYA
What exactly are you two planning to do now?
Bethany and Larry exchange a look.
Neither answers immediately.
SCENE 9 — AN UNEXPECTED ANSWER — NIGHT
Bethany finally speaks.
BETHANY
We’re going to talk.
Shreya looks amused.
SHREYA
That’s it?
BETHANY
For now.
Larry nods.
LARRY
We need to figure out where we stand before making any other decisions.
Shreya looks at them both.
SHREYA
Then maybe tonight was a misunderstanding that needed to happen.
Bethany looks confused.
BETHANY
What do you mean?
Shreya picks up her bag.
SHREYA
Sometimes people don’t realize how something looks until somebody else sees it.
Larry becomes thoughtful.
LARRY
That’s actually true.
Shreya moves toward the doorway.
Then she stops.
SHREYA
Larry.
He looks at her.
LARRY
Yes?
SHREYA
If you’re going to rebuild trust with Bethany, don’t give her another reason to doubt you.
Larry nods seriously.
LARRY
I won’t.
Shreya looks toward Bethany.
SHREYA
And you shouldn’t pretend everything is fixed just because you had one good conversation.
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
I know.
Shreya opens the door.
SCENE 10 — THE FINAL LOOK — CONTINUOUS
Before leaving, Shreya looks back one last time.
Bethany and Larry are standing several feet apart now.
The misunderstanding has been cleared, but the deeper problems between them remain.
Shreya speaks quietly.
SHREYA
Maybe you two still have a lot to talk about.
She walks out.
The door closes.
Silence fills the room.
Bethany looks at Larry.
BETHANY
She wasn’t completely wrong.
Larry looks at her.
LARRY
About what?
Bethany takes a breath.
BETHANY
About us needing to figure out where we stand.
Larry nods slowly.
LARRY
Then let’s finally have that conversation.
Bethany sits down.
Larry sits across from her.
Neither looks away.
For the first time, they are not arguing.
