THE PREGNANCY REPORT
The room is unusually quiet.
Brooke sits on the couch, looking worried and distracted. Bethany watches her carefully from across the room. Larry stands nearby, noticing the tension but saying nothing.
Bethany finally breaks the silence.
BETHANY
Brooke, I need you to be honest with me.
Brooke looks up but says nothing.
BETHANY
Are you pregnant?
Brooke’s expression changes instantly.
Larry looks at Bethany, surprised by the direct question.
BETHANY
And are you hiding it from us? Is that why you’ve been so upset lately?
Brooke looks down at the floor.
She doesn’t answer.
LARRY
Brooke, your mom is asking you a serious question.
Brooke remains silent.
Bethany studies her face, becoming increasingly concerned.
BETHANY
You don’t have to be afraid to tell us the truth.
Brooke looks between Bethany and Larry.
Still, she says nothing.
The silence becomes heavier.
LARRY
If something is going on, we need to know.
Brooke’s eyes fill with emotion, but she continues to stay quiet.
Bethany looks at Larry.
They exchange a worried glance.
BETHANY
We’re going to the hospital.
Brooke immediately looks up.
BROOKE
No.
Bethany stands.
BETHANY
Brooke, we’re not going to keep guessing. We’re going to find out what’s really happening.
BROOKE
I don’t want to go.
Larry steps closer, keeping his voice firm.
LARRY
We’re going. This needs to be checked properly.
Brooke reluctantly gets up.
Bethany grabs her belongings, and Larry opens the door.
The three of them leave together.
Brooke sits quietly while Bethany and Larry wait nearby.
Bethany keeps looking toward Brooke.
Larry appears nervous.
A nurse eventually approaches them.
NURSE
Brooke?
Brooke stands.
NURSE
We have the test results.
Brooke looks nervous.
Bethany and Larry both stand as well.
The family sits together.
The doctor places the report on the desk.
Bethany looks at the paper.
Larry leans forward.
Brooke watches their faces carefully.
Bethany reads the result.
Her expression suddenly changes.
Larry notices.
LARRY
What does it say?
Bethany looks at him.
She slowly hands him the report.
Larry reads it.
His eyes widen.
He looks at Brooke in complete shock.
Brooke lowers her head.
The room becomes silent.
LARRY
Brooke…
He struggles to find the right words.
LARRY
You’re pregnant?
Brooke doesn’t respond.
Bethany looks at Brooke, realizing that her suspicions were correct.
BETHANY
So this is why you’ve been so upset.
Brooke finally looks up.
Her eyes are filled with emotion.
BROOKE
I didn’t know how to tell you.
Bethany takes a breath.
Her expression softens, but she remains serious.
BETHANY
You should have told us.
Brooke looks down again.
Larry continues staring at the report, still processing the news.
LARRY
I can’t believe this.
Bethany turns toward him.
BETHANY
Larry, I told you something was wrong.
Larry looks at her.
BETHANY
I told you Brooke and Isaiah were involved in a relationship, and now we know why she’s been acting so differently.
Larry looks back at Brooke.
He realizes that the situation is much more serious than he thought.
LARRY
Brooke, why didn’t you come to us?
Brooke wipes away a tear.
BROOKE
I was scared.
Bethany sits beside her.
BETHANY
You don’t have to face everything alone.
Brooke looks at Bethany.
For the first time, she seems relieved that the secret is finally out.
Larry puts the report down.
His shock slowly turns into concern.
LARRY
Whatever happens next, we’re going to deal with it together.
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
But from now on, there can’t be any more secrets.
Brooke quietly nods.
Bethany and Larry walk behind Brooke as she heads toward the exit.
Larry is still visibly stunned.
Bethany looks at him.
BETHANY
Now do you understand why I was worried?
Larry nods slowly.
LARRY
Yeah.
He looks toward Brooke.
LARRY
I just wasn’t prepared for this.
Bethany sighs.
BETHANY
Neither was Brooke.
Larry remains quiet.
Brooke stops near the hospital doors and turns around.
For a moment, all three look at one another.
No one knows exactly what will happen next.
But one thing is certain:
The secret is finally out.
The pregnancy report has changed everything.
