BROOKE’S SHOCKING PICTURE — THE CALL THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
A CINEMATIC SCREENPLAY
Soft morning sunlight enters through the curtains.
Brooke stands in front of her mirror, getting ready for the airport. Her suitcase is open on the bed, filled with clothes. A small handbag rests beside it.
She checks her phone.
Today, she is finally going to see Hope and Faith.
A smile appears on her face.
She picks up her jacket and puts it on.
BROOKE
I’m finally ready. I can’t wait to see everybody.
She grabs her suitcase and walks toward the bedroom door.
Before leaving, she looks around her room one last time.
Then her phone rings.
It’s Hope.
Brooke quickly answers.
BROOKE
Hey, Hope! I’m ready!
HOPE
You’re ready already?
BROOKE
Yes! My bags are packed, and I’m about to leave for the airport.
Brooke sits on the edge of her bed, smiling.
BROOKE
I’m so excited to come to you guys. I’ve been waiting for this.
Hope is quiet for a moment.
Her voice sounds different.
Brooke notices.
BROOKE
Hope? What’s wrong?
HOPE
Nothing. I just wanted to talk to you before you leave.
BROOKE
Okay… what happened?
Hope takes a deep breath.
HOPE
Brooke, I’m going to send you a picture. I need you to look at it.
Brooke’s smile slowly fades.
BROOKE
A picture? Of what?
HOPE
Just look at it first, okay?
BROOKE
Okay. Send it.
Hope ends the call.
Brooke stares at her phone.
A few seconds later, a notification appears.
HOPE SENT YOU A PHOTO.
Brooke opens the picture.
Her expression changes instantly.
She stops breathing for a moment.
Her eyes widen.
BROOKE
Wait… what?
She zooms in on the picture.
Her hand starts shaking.
BROOKE
No… no, no, no.
She looks at it again, hoping she misunderstood.
But the picture is still there.
Brooke slowly stands up.
BROOKE
What is this?
Her eyes fill with tears.
She immediately calls Hope back.
Hope sits on her bed, holding her phone.
She sees Brooke calling.
Hope answers.
HOPE
Brooke…
BROOKE
Hope, what is this picture?
Brooke’s voice is trembling.
BROOKE
Why did you send me this?
Hope looks down.
HOPE
I knew you needed to see it before you came.
BROOKE
But why? What is happening?
Hope struggles to find the right words.
HOPE
Brooke, I didn’t want you to find out later.
BROOKE
Find out what?
Hope stays quiet.
That silence makes Brooke even more nervous.
BROOKE
Hope! Please tell me what’s going on!
HOPE
I’m sorry, Brooke.
Brooke looks at the picture again.
Her lips begin to tremble.
BROOKE
I don’t understand…
She ends the call.
For a moment, she stands completely still.
Then she looks toward the bedroom door.
BROOKE
Dad…
She quickly grabs her phone.
Larry sits on the couch, looking at his phone.
The house is quiet.
His phone suddenly rings.
He sees Brooke’s name.
Larry answers immediately.
LARRY
Hey, baby girl. What’s going on?
Brooke doesn’t respond right away.
Larry sits up.
LARRY
Brooke?
BROOKE
Dad…
Her voice breaks.
Larry’s expression changes.
LARRY
What happened?
BROOKE
I need you to come here.
LARRY
Where are you?
BROOKE
I’m in my room.
Larry stands up.
LARRY
Okay, I’m coming.
BROOKE
Dad, please hurry.
Larry hears the fear in her voice.
LARRY
I’m on my way.
He ends the call and quickly walks toward her room.
Brooke stands near the door.
Her suitcase is still packed.
Her phone is in her hand.
She looks at the picture again.
Tears roll down her cheeks.
The bedroom door opens.
Larry steps inside.
LARRY
Brooke?
Brooke turns around.
The moment she sees her dad, she starts crying harder.
Larry walks toward her.
LARRY
Baby, what happened?
Brooke holds out her phone.
BROOKE
Dad… look at this.
Larry takes the phone.
He looks at the picture.
His face changes.
LARRY
What…?
He looks at Brooke.
Then back at the picture.
LARRY
Where did you get this?
BROOKE
Hope sent it to me.
Larry slowly lowers the phone.
LARRY
Hope sent you this?
Brooke nods.
BROOKE
She told me to look at it before I came.
Larry looks worried.
LARRY
Brooke, listen to me.
BROOKE
Dad, I don’t understand!
Her voice rises.
BROOKE
Why would she send me that picture? Why would she do this to me?
Larry takes a step closer.
LARRY
Baby, calm down.
BROOKE
I can’t calm down!
She wipes her tears.
BROOKE
I was happy! I was getting ready to leave for the airport!
She looks at her suitcase.
BROOKE
I was so excited to see them.
Larry looks at the suitcase.
Then at his daughter.
LARRY
I know.
BROOKE
And now this happens?
Larry takes a deep breath.
LARRY
I don’t know what this means yet.
BROOKE
But you saw the picture!
LARRY
I saw it, Brooke.
BROOKE
Then tell me what’s going on!
Larry looks down at the phone.
He is clearly troubled.
LARRY
I’m trying to understand it myself.
Brooke shakes her head.
BROOKE
No… I don’t want this.
She turns toward the door.
Her hand reaches for the doorknob.
But she doesn’t open it.
She rests her hand against the door.
Her shoulders begin to shake.
BROOKE
I just wanted everything to be okay.
Larry watches her.
LARRY
Brooke…
He walks closer.
LARRY
Come here, baby.
Brooke turns around.
Larry opens his arms.
She walks into him and hugs him tightly.
BROOKE
Dad, why does everything keep happening to me?
Larry holds her.
LARRY
I’m here. I’m right here.
Brooke cries against his chest.
BROOKE
I don’t know what to do.
LARRY
You don’t have to figure everything out right now.
He gently pats her back.
LARRY
We’re going to take this one step at a time.
Brooke pulls away slightly.
BROOKE
But what about Hope?
Larry looks at her.
LARRY
We’ll talk to her.
BROOKE
What if she knows something I don’t?
Larry pauses.
LARRY
Then we’ll find out the truth.
Brooke looks at her phone.
Another notification appears.
HOPE IS CALLING…
Brooke freezes.
Larry looks at the screen.
LARRY
That’s Hope.
Brooke doesn’t answer.
The phone keeps ringing.
BROOKE
I don’t want to talk to her.
Larry nods.
LARRY
You don’t have to answer right now.
The ringing stops.
A message appears.
HOPE: Brooke, please call me. We need to talk.
Brooke reads the message.
Her eyes fill with tears again.
BROOKE
Dad… what am I supposed to do?
Larry looks at her with concern.
LARRY
Whatever you decide, you’re not doing it alone.
Brooke leans against the door.
She looks at her packed suitcase.
Then at the phone.
Her airport plans suddenly feel far away.
Hope sits quietly on her bed.
She looks at her phone.
No response from Brooke.
HOPE
Please answer me, Brooke.
She types another message.
HOPE: I’m sorry. I just wanted you to know before you came.
Hope puts the phone down.
She looks worried.
Larry stands beside Brooke.
LARRY
Do you still want to go to the airport?
Brooke looks at him.
She shakes her head.
BROOKE
I don’t know.
Larry nods.
LARRY
Then we’ll take a minute.
Brooke looks down.
BROOKE
I was so happy this morning.
LARRY
I know, baby.
BROOKE
Now I don’t even know what to think.
Larry gently places his hand on her shoulder.
LARRY
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.
Brooke takes a deep breath.
She looks at the picture one more time.
BROOKE
I need answers.
Larry nods.
LARRY
And we’ll get them.
Brooke wipes her tears.
She picks up her phone.
Her finger hovers over Hope’s name.
Then she stops.
BROOKE
Not yet.
Larry looks at her.
LARRY
That’s okay.
Brooke slowly sits on the edge of her bed.
Her suitcase remains packed beside her.
The room falls silent.
Outside, the morning continues.
But inside Brooke’s room, everything has changed.
FADE OUT.
