Desire, Deception & Betrayal
Purnell brought his girlfriend home to meet everyone. By the time he stepped out to run an errand, Larry had already made a decision that would cost him his marriage, his friendship, and Ramika’s trust — all in one afternoon.

Scene 1 — Purnell Introduces His Girlfriend

The front door opens. Purnell walks inside with his girlfriend, Ramika, by his side. He looks relaxed and confident, completely unaware of the trouble his visit is about to create. Larry sits on the couch, scrolling through his phone. Bethany is busy nearby when Purnell calls out to him.

PURNELL: Larry! Come here, man. I want you to meet someone.

Larry looks up and puts his phone aside.

LARRY: Who is it? You’ve been acting mysterious all day.

PURNELL: This is my girlfriend, Ramika. I don’t think you two have officially met before.

Ramika smiles politely.

RAMIKA: Hey, Larry. It’s nice to finally meet you.

Larry stands up to greet her. The moment he looks at her, his expression changes slightly. He tries to hide his surprise, but his attention lingers longer than it should.

LARRY: Well, well! Purnell, you certainly know how to keep secrets.

PURNELL: What can I say? A man has to keep a few things private.

Everyone laughs, but Larry’s mind is already somewhere else. Bethany notices Larry’s unusual reaction. She watches him carefully, wondering why he suddenly seems so interested in Purnell’s girlfriend.

BETHANY: Larry, are you going to stand there staring, or are you going to let them sit down?

Larry quickly turns toward Bethany.

LARRY: I’m just being friendly! What’s wrong with you?

BETHANY: Nothing. I’m simply reminding you that your manners seem to disappear whenever an attractive woman walks into a room.

Purnell chuckles, unaware of the tension beneath their exchange.

PURNELL: Come on, everybody. Let’s relax. I’m not here to start an argument.

Larry forces a smile, but his eyes briefly return to Ramika. Bethany notices. And she doesn’t like it.

Scene 2 — Larry Makes a Dangerous Decision

Purnell and Ramika settle into the living room while Bethany heads into the kitchen. Larry follows a few moments later. He leans against the counter, lost in thought. His relationship with Bethany has been strained lately. Every conversation seems to turn into an argument, and every attempt to discuss their needs ends with frustration. Instead of addressing their problems honestly, Larry begins entertaining an irresponsible idea.

LARRY (to himself): Why does everything have to be so complicated? Bethany and I can’t agree on anything anymore.

He glances toward the living room, where Ramika is talking to Purnell.

LARRY (to himself): Maybe I’ve been looking in the wrong direction.

His expression hardens as temptation begins to replace common sense. He knows Ramika is Purnell’s girlfriend. He knows Bethany would be furious if she discovered what he was thinking. Yet he continues down the wrong path in his mind.

LARRY (to himself): If Bethany doesn’t want to understand me, maybe I should stop trying to make things work with her.

He pauses.

LARRY (to himself): No. This is a terrible idea.

For a brief moment, his conscience speaks louder than his desires. Then he looks toward Ramika again. Larry turns away, but the decision he is considering threatens to destroy far more than his relationship with Bethany.

Scene 3 — Purnell Leaves the House

Purnell checks his phone and suddenly remembers an errand he needs to run.

PURNELL: Ramika, I need to step out for a little while. I’ll be back soon.

RAMIKA: Okay. Do you need me to come with you?

PURNELL: No, don’t worry. Stay here and relax. I’ll see you in a bit.

Purnell turns toward Larry.

PURNELL: Keep an eye on things while I’m gone, man.

Larry nods, pretending to be completely trustworthy.

LARRY: Of course. You don’t have to worry about anything.

Purnell leaves, closing the front door behind him. For a moment, the house becomes unusually quiet. Bethany is occupied elsewhere, and Ramika eventually walks toward Larry’s room to retrieve an item she left there earlier. Larry notices her heading down the hallway. His expression changes. He hesitates, aware that he is about to cross a serious boundary. Then he follows her.

Scene 4 — A Boundary Is Crossed

Ramika stands near a table, searching for her belongings when Larry enters. She turns around, surprised to see him.

RAMIKA: Larry? Is there something you need?

Larry closes the distance between them, trying to act confident.

LARRY: I wanted to talk to you about something.

RAMIKA: About what?

Larry struggles to find the right words. His intentions become increasingly uncomfortable, and Ramika notices that something is wrong.

RAMIKA: Larry, why are you acting like this?

He attempts to move closer despite her obvious discomfort. Ramika immediately steps back.

RAMIKA: Stop. I’m Purnell’s girlfriend, and you’re married to Bethany. Whatever you’re thinking, this is not happening.

Larry looks startled by her directness.

LARRY: I’m just trying to tell you how I feel.

RAMIKA: Then you need to listen to what I’m telling you. I am not interested in this.

She moves toward the door, making it clear that she wants to leave. Larry reaches toward her again, but she firmly tells him not to touch her.

RAMIKA: Don’t touch me, Larry. I said no.

The atmosphere changes instantly. There is no romance in the room now—only discomfort, a broken boundary, and the consequences of Larry’s choices. Ramika turns toward the exit. Larry realizes that his behavior has gone far beyond an inappropriate thought. He has ignored her refusal and risked betraying both his wife and his friend. Before either of them can say anything else, footsteps approach the room.

Scene 5 — Bethany Discovers the Truth

The door opens. Bethany stands in the doorway. She freezes as she sees Larry standing too close to Ramika. Ramika looks upset, while Larry appears caught off guard. For a few seconds, nobody speaks. Bethany’s eyes move from Ramika to Larry.

BETHANY: Larry? What is going on in here?

Larry steps back immediately.

LARRY: Bethany, wait. This isn’t what you think.

Bethany lets out a disbelieving laugh.

BETHANY: Really? Then explain it to me. Because from where I’m standing, it looks like you have completely lost your mind.

Ramika moves away from Larry, clearly wanting to put distance between herself and the situation.

RAMIKA: Bethany, I didn’t come in here for this. I told Larry to stop.

Bethany looks at Ramika, then turns back toward her husband. Her expression shifts from confusion to anger.

BETHANY: So this is what you’ve been doing behind my back?

LARRY: I can explain everything.

BETHANY: Then explain it! Right now!

Larry opens his mouth, but no convincing answer comes. Bethany shakes her head, struggling to process what she has witnessed.

BETHANY: I kept wondering why you were so distant with me. I thought maybe we were having problems we could work through.

She points toward Larry, her voice trembling with anger.

BETHANY: But now I walk into this room and find you trying to get involved with another woman’s girlfriend—your friend’s girlfriend, Larry!

LARRY: Bethany, please calm down.

BETHANY: Don’t tell me to calm down!

Her voice echoes through the hallway.

Scene 6 — Bethany Confronts Larry

Bethany takes a deep breath, but the hurt on her face is impossible to hide.

BETHANY: Now I understand why you haven’t wanted to fulfill your desires with me.

Larry looks away. Bethany steps closer, demanding an honest answer.

BETHANY: You made me feel like I was the problem. You made me believe that something was wrong between us and that I was the reason you kept your distance.

She pauses, her eyes fixed on him.

BETHANY: But you were thinking about someone else the whole time!

LARRY: That’s not how it happened.

BETHANY: Then tell me how it happened, Larry! Tell me why you thought this was acceptable!

Larry struggles to respond.

LARRY: I made a mistake. I wasn’t thinking clearly.

BETHANY: A mistake? You don’t just accidentally ignore your wife’s feelings, follow another woman into a room, and disregard her boundaries!
