Larry’s Living Room
The room is unusually quiet. Larry stands near the center of the living room, his expression serious and tired. Bethany stands several feet away, waiting for him to explain why he asked her to meet him. Larry takes a slow breath.
LARRY: Bethany, I need to be honest with you. I don’t want to do business with you anymore.
Bethany stares at him. For a moment, she says nothing. Larry continues, knowing that his next words will make the situation even harder.
LARRY: And I also don’t have any interest in continuing a relationship with you.
Bethany’s expression changes instantly. She looks genuinely stunned.
BETHANY: What?
Larry remains calm.
LARRY: You heard me. I’ve made my decision, Bethany. I don’t want to work together, and I don’t want to continue this relationship.
Bethany slowly shakes her head. She struggles to accept what she has just heard.
BETHANY: Larry, you can’t be serious.
LARRY: I am serious.
Bethany steps closer. Her surprise begins turning into anger.
BETHANY: After everything we’ve done together, you’re just going to walk away?
Larry looks at her firmly.
LARRY: This isn’t about punishing you. I simply don’t want this anymore.
Bethany’s frustration grows.
The Argument Escalates
Bethany points toward Larry. Her voice becomes louder.
BETHANY: Larry, whatever happens, you have to do business with me. This is about our entire family.
Larry immediately shakes his head.
LARRY: No. I’m not going to change my decision because you’re pressuring me.
Bethany looks at him in disbelief.
BETHANY: You really think you can just say no?
LARRY: Yes. It’s my decision.
A tense silence fills the room. Bethany clenches her hands, struggling to control her anger.
BETHANY: You don’t understand what you’re doing to this family.
LARRY: I understand perfectly. But I still have the right to choose what I want.
Bethany steps forward again.
BETHANY: I’m telling you, Larry. You’re going to work with me.
LARRY: No, Bethany.
His answer is firm. Bethany suddenly loses control of her temper. She rushes toward Larry, starting a physical struggle. Larry immediately tries to create distance between them.
LARRY: Bethany, stop!
Bethany refuses to listen. The argument turns chaotic as she grabs at Larry and tries to overpower him. Larry struggles to get free without escalating the situation.
LARRY: Let me go! Bethany, calm down!
Bethany remains furious.
The Struggle
Larry tries to move away, but Bethany continues confronting him. She repeatedly swings at him during the struggle. Larry raises his arms defensively and attempts to protect himself.
LARRY: Bethany, this isn’t going to change my mind!
Bethany’s anger only grows.
BETHANY: I don’t care!
Larry manages to push himself backward and tries to break away.
LARRY: You need to stop!
Bethany refuses to back down. Her face shows a mixture of anger, frustration, and desperation.
BETHANY: You think you can just leave me with nothing?
Larry looks at her with disappointment.
LARRY: I never said I wanted to hurt you. But you cannot force me to stay.
Bethany pauses for a moment. Her breathing is heavy. She looks at Larry as though she is trying to find a way to make him change his mind.
BETHANY: Then tell me what I’m supposed to do!
Larry keeps his distance.
LARRY: Accept my decision.
Bethany shakes her head.
BETHANY: No.
Larry looks toward the door.
LARRY: I’m done arguing.
Bethany steps forward once more.
Bethany’s Final Warning
The atmosphere becomes extremely tense. Larry stands his ground. Bethany points directly at him.
BETHANY: I don’t know what you think you’re going to do, Larry.
Larry remains silent. Bethany continues.
BETHANY: But I’m telling you right now, you are going to do business with me.
Larry slowly shakes his head.
LARRY: No. I’m not.
Bethany looks furious.
BETHANY: You’re really going to keep saying no?
LARRY: Yes.
A long silence follows. Larry’s expression remains firm. Bethany realizes that he is not going to change his mind.
BETHANY: Then I don’t know what I’m going to do.
Larry looks at her sadly.
LARRY: That’s something you have to decide for yourself.
Bethany turns away for a moment. The anger on her face begins mixing with frustration and disbelief.
The Aftermath
The room finally becomes quiet. Larry straightens himself and takes a deep breath. He looks exhausted from the confrontation. Bethany stands across the room, still angry but no longer moving toward him.
BETHANY: You really mean it?
Larry nods.
LARRY: Yes. I mean it.
Bethany looks down. For the first time, her anger gives way to uncertainty.
BETHANY: So there’s nothing I can say?
Larry answers quietly.
LARRY: Not if your goal is to make me do something I don’t want to do.
Bethany looks back at him. Larry walks toward the door. Before leaving, he turns around.
LARRY: I hope one day you understand that family doesn’t mean forcing someone into a decision.
Bethany says nothing. Larry walks away. Bethany remains alone in the living room, staring after him. The argument is over, but the conflict between them is far from finished.
