The Price of Love

A Cinematic Screenplay — Wayne, Yaya & Mike

HOOK — WAS YAYA REALLY IN LOVE?

Wayne believed Yaya loved him for who he was. He had given her attention, comfort, and financial support because he thought their relationship was genuine. But one unexpected moment was about to make him question everything.

After Wayne left, Yaya walked straight toward Mike and offered to take him shopping. She even promised to buy him whatever he wanted. Mike pulled her onto his lap and leaned in as if he were about to kiss her.

Then Wayne returned.

What he saw left him speechless. But the most painful discovery wasn’t how close Yaya and Mike had become. It was the possibility that Yaya had been using his money all along.

Scene 1 — Wayne Walks Away

EXT. PATIO — AFTERNOON. The afternoon sun shines across the patio. Wayne checks his phone and prepares to leave, while Yaya stands nearby with a sweet smile.

WAYNE

I need to take care of something. I won’t be gone long.

YAYA

That’s fine, Wayne. Take your time.

She gently touches his arm, making him feel that everything between them is perfectly fine.

WAYNE

I’ll see you in a little while.

YAYA

You know I’ll be right here.

Wayne smiles and walks toward the house. Yaya watches him disappear before turning her attention to Mike, who is sitting nearby. Her expression changes. She looks toward the door to make sure Wayne is gone.

Scene 2 — Yaya Makes Mike an Offer

EXT. PATIO — CONTINUOUS. Mike sits comfortably, scrolling through his phone. Yaya approaches him and leans against the table.

YAYA

Mike, what are you doing sitting here all by yourself?

MIKE

Nothing much. Just relaxing. Why?

YAYA

Come with me. Let’s go shopping.

Mike looks up, surprised.

MIKE

Shopping? You want me to go shopping with you?

YAYA

Yes! Why are you acting so surprised?

MIKE

I’m just trying to understand why you’re suddenly inviting me.

YAYA

Because I feel like having some fun. And guess what? I’ll buy you a few things, too.

MIKE

You’re actually going to buy me something?

YAYA

Of course. You can choose whatever you like.

Mike grins. Yaya reaches for his hand, but instead of standing up, Mike gently pulls her closer. She laughs in surprise as he draws her onto his lap.

Scene 3 — The Moment That Changes Everything

EXT. PATIO — MOMENTS LATER. Yaya sits on Mike’s lap, facing him. Their playful conversation gradually fades into silence.

MIKE

So, this shopping trip is going to be special?

YAYA

Maybe it will be.

MIKE

Tell me something. Why are you being so generous with me today?

YAYA

Can’t I do something nice for you?

MIKE

You can. I’m just wondering what’s changed.

YAYA

Nothing has changed. I just want us to have a good time.

Mike leans closer. Yaya hesitates, but neither of them immediately moves away. He begins leaning in as though he is about to kiss her.

WAYNE (O.S.)

What exactly is going on here?

Yaya freezes. Mike turns toward the entrance. Wayne stands in the doorway, staring at them.

Scene 4 — Wayne Catches Them

EXT. PATIO — CONTINUOUS. Yaya quickly gets off Mike’s lap. Mike straightens his clothes and looks toward Wayne.

YAYA

Wayne! I thought you had left.

WAYNE

I did leave. I came back because I forgot something.

His eyes move from Yaya to Mike.

WAYNE

But it looks like I came back at the perfect time.

YAYA

You’re misunderstanding what you saw.

WAYNE

Am I?

YAYA

We were just playing around. Nothing happened.

MIKE

Wayne, listen. It’s not what you think.

WAYNE

Then explain it to me.

Mike opens his mouth, but no convincing answer comes. Wayne looks at Yaya again.

WAYNE

A few minutes ago, you were telling me how much you cared about me. Now I walk back in here and find you sitting on Mike’s lap.

YAYA

You’re making this bigger than it is.

WAYNE

I’m asking you to explain what I just saw.

Scene 5 — The Question About Money

EXT. PATIO — CONTINUOUS. Wayne takes a step closer.

WAYNE

Yaya, I’ve always tried to make sure you were comfortable. I’ve helped you because I cared about you.

YAYA

And I’m grateful for everything you’ve done.

WAYNE

Are you grateful for me, or are you grateful for what I can give you?

Yaya’s smile disappears.

YAYA

How can you even ask me that?

WAYNE

Because I need to know whether your feelings are real.

MIKE

Maybe I should give you two some space.

WAYNE

That might be a good idea.

WAYNE

Before you go, did you know she was going to invite you shopping and offer to buy you things?

MIKE

Yes. She asked me to come with her.

WAYNE

And you thought sitting on her lap was part of the plan?

Mike looks down, unable to respond. Wayne begins wondering whether the incident is about more than an impulsive moment.

Scene 6 — Yaya Tries to Save the Relationship

EXT. PATIO — LATER. Yaya moves closer to Wayne, softening her voice.

YAYA

Wayne, look at me. You know I care about you.

WAYNE

Then tell me the truth. Why did you invite Mike shopping and promise to buy him whatever he wanted?

YAYA

I wasn’t thinking. I was just trying to have fun.

WAYNE

And when he pulled you onto his lap?

YAYA

It happened so fast. I didn’t know what to do.

WAYNE

You could have stood up.

YAYA

So now everything is my fault?

WAYNE

I’m not saying everything is your fault. Mike made his own choices, too. But I need you to take responsibility for yours.

YAYA

I don’t want to lose you over this.

WAYNE

Then give me a reason to believe you.

She hesitates. Her silence unsettles him more than he wants to admit.

Scene 7 — Mike Knows More Than He Says

INT. HOUSE — SAME TIME. Mike stands inside the house, away from Wayne and Yaya. He can still hear their voices through the open patio door.

MIKE

(quietly) This is going to get worse before it gets better.

He takes out his phone and begins typing a message, then stops. His phone vibrates. Mike reads the new message, and his expression changes.

He quickly locks his phone and puts it away. Whatever the message says, he clearly doesn’t want Wayne to find out about it.

Scene 8 — Wayne Sets a Boundary

EXT. PATIO — AFTERNOON. Wayne turns back toward Yaya.

WAYNE

I need some time to think.

YAYA

You’re really going to walk away from me because of one misunderstanding?

WAYNE

I’m walking away because I don’t know what to believe anymore.

YAYA

Wayne, please. I love you.

WAYNE

I want to believe that. But I need more than words right now.

Yaya watches him leave, unable to find the right words to stop him. For the first time, she realizes Wayne might actually question their entire relationship.

Scene 9 — The Anonymous Message

INT. WAYNE’S ROOM — EARLY EVENING. Wayne sits alone, replaying the afternoon in his mind. His phone lights up with a message from an unknown number.

The message reads: “Wayne, if you really want to know why Yaya invited Mike shopping, ask Mike what happened last week.”

WAYNE

What happened last week?

He immediately calls Mike. The phone rings, but nobody answers. Wayne tries again, but the call goes straight to voicemail.

Someone knows something—and that person believes Wayne deserves to find out.

Scene 10 — Yaya Receives a Warning

INT. YAYA’S ROOM — EVENING. Yaya sits on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone. Another message appears, and her face becomes tense.

She starts typing a reply, then deletes it. She gets up and reaches for her purse. Before leaving, she notices a shopping bag on her dresser. Inside is a gift she had planned to give Mike.

She hesitates before picking it up. Why is she still determined to see Mike when Wayne has already caught them together?

Whatever her reason, she doesn’t seem ready to abandon her plan.

Scene 11 — Wayne Confronts Mike

EXT. PARKING AREA — NIGHT. Wayne waits beside his car. A few minutes later, Mike arrives and stops when he sees him.

WAYNE

You got my calls.

MIKE

I was busy.

WAYNE

Busy avoiding me?

MIKE

I don’t want to get caught in the middle of your relationship.

WAYNE

You’re already in the middle of it. Someone sent me a message telling me to ask you what happened last week.

Mike’s expression changes. Wayne notices immediately.

WAYNE

You know what they’re talking about.

MIKE

I know a lot of things. That doesn’t mean I should be the one to tell you.

WAYNE

If Yaya is being honest with me, the truth shouldn’t be a problem.

Mike looks ready to speak, but before he can say anything, a car pulls into the parking area. Yaya steps out, carrying the shopping bag.

Scene 12 — The Secret Behind the Shopping Trip

EXT. PARKING AREA — CONTINUOUS. Yaya approaches cautiously. Wayne turns toward her.

YAYA

Wayne, what are you doing here?

WAYNE

I could ask you the same question.

WAYNE

What’s in the bag?

YAYA

Nothing important.

MIKE

Maybe you should tell him.

YAYA

Don’t.

Wayne goes still.

WAYNE

Tell me what?

MIKE

Wayne, the truth is—

YAYA

If you tell him, you’ll have to explain your part in it, too.

WAYNE

My part? What does that mean?

Neither of them answers. Wayne takes a step closer, determined to get the truth.
