MARIA “Pregnancy? Do you really think that could be possible?”

ISAIAH “Where are you?”

MARIA “I’m at the hospital. Please come. I really need to talk to you.”

Isaiah agrees to come. Maria ends the call and watches the hospital entrance, hoping that his presence will make this frightening moment easier.

🚪 SCENE 5: ISAIAH ARRIVES AT THE HOSPITAL

A little later, Isaiah enters the hospital and spots Maria near the examination rooms. Her swollen eyes and worried expression immediately catch his attention.

ISAIAH “What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

MARIA “I didn’t know what was wrong with me. That’s why I came to the hospital.”

Maria takes a deep breath, struggling to say the words that have been weighing on her mind.

MARIA “They suggested that I take a pregnancy test. Isaiah… the result came back positive.”

ISAIAH “What are you saying?”

MARIA “I’m pregnant, Isaiah.”

ISAIAH “Maria, I don’t believe this. Are you sure you understood the result?”

MARIA “Yes! The nurse told me herself. I’m not making this up.”

She tries to explain that she is not demanding immediate answers. She simply needs him to listen.

MARIA “I’m not asking you to have all the answers right now. I’m scared too. I just wanted you to know because this affects both of us.”

Isaiah runs a hand over his head, visibly overwhelmed.

ISAIAH “I can’t deal with this right now.”

MARIA “Isaiah, please. Don’t do this to me. I came here alone. I was sick and frightened, and when they told me the result, you were the first person I wanted to call.”

ISAIAH “Stop, Maria. I’m telling you that I can’t accept this right now.”

MARIA “But this is happening to me. I need you to talk to me, not turn your back on me.”

Isaiah looks away, unable to face the situation.

ISAIAH “I need some time. I can’t do this.”

MARIA “Some time? Isaiah, I’m standing here telling you that I’m pregnant, and all you can say is that you need time?”

He offers no meaningful response. After a painful silence, he prepares to leave.

ISAIAH “I’m sorry, Maria. I have to go.”

He walks toward the exit without looking back. Maria remains behind, holding the test and struggling to understand how quickly her hopes have fallen apart.

As soon as Isaiah disappears through the hospital doors, Maria sits down and begins to cry. She had expected shock or confusion, but she never expected him to leave without hearing her out.

MARIA “Why, Isaiah? Why would you leave me like this?”

She looks at the test in her hand, trying to process both the pregnancy and Isaiah’s painful reaction.

MARIA “I didn’t ask for this to happen this way. I just wanted you to listen to me.”

A nurse notices her distress and approaches carefully.

MARIA “He left. I told him everything, and he just walked away.”

Maria slowly nods. She still wishes Isaiah had stayed, but the nurse’s kindness reminds her that she does not have to face every question alone.

MARIA “I thought he would at least listen to me.”

Isaiah walks toward his car, but Maria’s words keep repeating in his mind.

“Isaiah… I’m pregnant.”

He stops beside his car and stares into the distance. He had expected to hear about an illness, not news that could change both their lives.

ISAIAH “How did this happen? What am I supposed to do now?”

He takes out his phone and sees Maria’s name. For a moment, he considers calling her back and asking whether she is all right.

However, his uncertainty keeps him from pressing the call button.

ISAIAH “I need to think. I just need to figure out what to do.”

Isaiah starts the car and drives away. But leaving the hospital does not make the situation disappear. Somewhere inside, he knows that he will eventually have to face the conversation he has avoided.

Maria listens carefully. She realizes that she cannot force Isaiah to respond the way she wants him to, but she can choose to look after herself and seek support.

MARIA “I wanted him to be there for me. I still want him to care, but I can’t make him listen.”

She pauses, wipes her eyes, and slowly lifts her head.
