Genre: Emotional Drama, Relationship Conflict, Unexpected Pregnancy
Format: Cinematic Screenplay
Setting: Hospital — Examination Room and Hospital Corridor
SCENE 1 — INT. HOSPITAL — WAITING ROOM — MORNING
The hospital waiting room is filled with patients and quiet conversations.
Sharra sits nervously in a chair, her hands clasped tightly together. She looks worried and keeps glancing toward the examination room.
Dre sits beside her, watching her with concern. He notices that Sharra has barely spoken since they arrived.
He leans forward slightly, trying to understand what is troubling her.
DRE
Sharra, are you okay? You’ve been quiet ever since we got here. Is something bothering you?
Sharra looks at him but quickly turns her face away.
SHARRA
I don’t know, Dre. Something doesn’t feel right, and I need to know what’s happening to me.
Dre gently nods, trying to reassure her.
DRE
That’s why we’re here. The doctor will examine you, and we’ll find out what’s going on. Whatever the results are, we’ll talk about them together.
Sharra takes a deep breath. She wants to believe his words, but the uncertainty makes her increasingly anxious.
A nurse opens the examination room door and calls her name.
NURSE
Sharra? The doctor is ready to see you now.
Sharra immediately stands up. Dre rises beside her.
DRE
Come on. I’ll go with you.
Sharra gives him a brief look before walking toward the examination room. Dre follows closely behind.
Neither of them knows that the next few minutes will change their lives.
SCENE 2 — INT. HOSPITAL — EXAMINATION ROOM — MORNING
The examination room is clean and quiet.
Sharra sits on the examination bed while Dre stands beside her. The doctor reviews her information and asks a few questions about how she has been feeling.
DOCTOR
Sharra, I understand that you’ve been experiencing some unusual symptoms. We’re going to review your test results and make sure we understand what’s happening.
SHARRA
Doctor, I’ve been worried about this for a while. I just want to know the truth.
The doctor nods reassuringly. After reviewing the pregnancy test, the doctor looks at Sharra with a professional expression.
DOCTOR
Sharra, your pregnancy test is positive. The result indicates that you are pregnant.
For a moment, the room becomes completely silent. Sharra stares at the doctor in disbelief. Her lips part, but no words come out.
Dre turns toward her, equally stunned by the unexpected news.
SHARRA
What?
She looks at the doctor, hoping she has misunderstood.
SHARRA
Are you saying that I’m pregnant?
DOCTOR
Yes. Your test result is positive. We’ll discuss the next steps and arrange any additional care you may need.
Sharra lowers her eyes. Her hands begin to tremble slightly as she tries to process the information.
DRE
Sharra, did you hear what the doctor said?
Sharra looks up at him. Her expression changes from disbelief to anger and distress.
SHARRA
Of course I heard what the doctor said, Dre! How could I not hear it?
DRE
I’m just trying to understand what’s happening. I know this is unexpected.
SHARRA
Unexpected? You call this unexpected?
DOCTOR
I understand that this news may be overwhelming. Take your time. You don’t have to make every decision today.
SHARRA
I need a moment, Doctor.
DOCTOR
Of course. I’ll give you both some privacy, and we can talk again when you’re ready.
The doctor leaves the room. Sharra remains seated, staring at the floor. Dre stands beside her, uncertain what to say.
SCENE 3 — INT. HOSPITAL — EXAMINATION ROOM — CONTINUOUS
Dre slowly pulls a chair closer to Sharra. He wants to comfort her, but her angry expression makes him hesitate.
DRE
Sharra, please talk to me. I know you’re upset, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to face this alone.
SHARRA
You want me to talk to you? Now you want me to talk?
DRE
Yes. I’m right here. Tell me what you’re thinking.
Sharra lets out a frustrated breath. She looks away, then turns back toward him.
SHARRA
Dre, do you understand what this means? I came to this hospital to find out what was happening to me, and now I’ve been told that I’m pregnant!
DRE
I understand that this is a huge surprise. I’m shocked too, Sharra.
SHARRA
But you’re not the one who has to deal with everything that’s happening to me!
Her voice breaks. She presses her hands together, fighting back more tears.
SHARRA
My whole life could change because of this. I’ve got so many things to think about, and I don’t even know where to begin.
DRE
I know you’re scared. I’m trying to understand how you’re feeling.
Sharra turns toward him with tears in her eyes.
SHARRA
Then listen to me, Dre! This is happening because of you. I’m pregnant because of you!
Dre falls silent. Her words hit him harder than he expected.
DRE
Sharra, I hear you. I know you’re angry with me, and I’m not going to pretend that this situation is easy.
SHARRA
Easy? Nothing about this is easy for me!
She looks down at her hands.
SHARRA
I never expected to walk into a hospital and hear news like this. I thought I was going to get a simple test. I never imagined that everything would change in a single moment.
Dre sits beside her.
DRE
I didn’t expect this either. But I don’t want us to start blaming each other before we’ve even had time to understand what’s happening.
SHARRA
You think I’m blaming you for no reason?
DRE
No. I’m saying that we need to talk calmly. I want to understand what you need from me.
SHARRA
I need you to understand that this isn’t just another problem we can ignore. This is serious, Dre. My future is involved.
DRE
I understand that.
SHARRA
Do you really?
Dre looks directly into her eyes.
DRE
Yes, Sharra. I know that this news has changed everything. I’m still processing it myself, but I’m listening to you.
For a moment, Sharra says nothing. Her anger remains, but beneath it is a deep sense of uncertainty.
SCENE 4 — INT. HOSPITAL — CORRIDOR — LATER
Sharra leaves the examination room and walks into the corridor. She moves toward a row of chairs and sits down heavily.
Dre follows her but gives her a little space.
The hospital continues moving around them. Nurses walk past, doors open and close, and distant voices echo through the corridor. Yet Sharra feels as though the entire world has stopped.
She stares ahead, lost in thought. Dre eventually sits beside her.
DRE
Do you want me to get you some water?
SHARRA
No. I don’t want anything right now.
Dre nods. For several seconds, neither speaks. Finally, Sharra turns toward him.
SHARRA
Dre, tell me honestly. What are you thinking about right now?
DRE
I’m thinking about the test result. I’m thinking about you, and I’m thinking about what we need to do next.
SHARRA
And you’re not thinking about leaving me to deal with everything alone?
DRE
No, Sharra. I’m not saying that I have all the answers, because I don’t. But I’m here with you right now, and I want us to have an honest conversation.
Sharra’s eyes fill with tears again.
SHARRA
You don’t understand how afraid I am. I don’t know how people are going to react when they find out. I don’t know what they’re going to say about me.
DRE
We don’t have to tell everyone before you’re ready. We can take some time to understand the situation and decide what to do next.
SHARRA
You can say that now. But what happens tomorrow? What happens when people start asking questions?
DRE
I can’t promise that everything will be easy. But I can promise to be honest with you. We need to talk about our circumstances and decide what is best for the future.
Sharra wipes her tears with the back of her hand.
SHARRA
I just wish I could go back to this morning, before I knew any of this.
DRE
I know. I wish this news hadn’t frightened you so much.
SHARRA
It’s not just fear, Dre. I’m angry too. I’m angry because I feel like my life has been turned upside down, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now.
Dre listens without interrupting. For the first time since receiving the result, Sharra feels able to express some of what she has been holding inside.
SCENE 5 — INT. HOSPITAL — CORRIDOR — AFTERNOON
The doctor returns with Sharra’s medical information. Sharra and Dre stand up as the doctor approaches.
DOCTOR
Sharra, I’ve reviewed your result with you, but I’d like to make sure you understand the next steps. We can discuss your health, arrange any necessary follow-up appointments, and answer your questions.
SHARRA
Doctor, I’m still shocked. I don’t know how to process all of this.
DOCTOR
That’s understandable. You can take things one step at a time. You deserve clear information and support while you decide what happens next.
DRE
We’ll listen to what the doctor recommends.
SHARRA
I’m listening, but I still have a lot of questions.
DOCTOR
And you should ask them. There is no need to rush through this conversation.
The doctor explains the recommended follow-up care and reminds Sharra that she can return with further questions. After the discussion, the doctor leaves them alone again.
Sharra slowly sits down. Dre remains standing for a moment before taking the seat beside her.
SHARRA
Dre, I want you to remember what I’m telling you today. I don’t want you to act as though this is only my problem.
DRE
I hear you, Sharra.
SHARRA
I’m pregnant, and you’re here with me. We can’t pretend that this news doesn’t matter.
DRE
You’re right. We need to face the situation honestly and discuss what comes next.
Sharra studies his expression. She is still upset, and the future remains uncertain. His words cannot erase her fear or answer every question in her mind.
But she knows that the conversation cannot end here.
SHARRA
Then we need to talk seriously, Dre. I want the truth from you. I want to know what you think about everything that’s happened.
DRE
We’ll talk about it. You can ask me whatever you need to ask, and I’ll answer you honestly.
Sharra looks down at the hospital paperwork in her hands. She takes a slow breath, trying to gather herself.
SHARRA
I never thought my visit to this hospital would change my life like this.
DRE
Neither did I.
They sit beside each other in silence. Sharra is overwhelmed by the pregnancy news, while Dre struggles to understand what their future might look like.
Neither of them knows exactly what will happen next.
But one thing is certain: the positive test has brought them face-to-face with a life-changing situation they can no longer ignore.
FADE OUT.
