SCENE 1 — THE LIVING ROOM, AFTERNOON

Sunlight streams through the large windows of Larry’s luxurious home. Brooke sits comfortably on the sofa, scrolling through her phone. Her long hair falls over her shoulders.

Bethany walks into the living room carrying a cup of coffee. She notices Brooke’s hair and stops beside the sofa.

BETHANY

Brooke, can I tell you something?

BROOKE

(Without looking up) What?

BETHANY

I think you should get your hair cut. Shorter hair would look really pretty on you.

BROOKE

And why exactly do you care about my hair?

BETHANY

I am only giving you an opinion. You don’t have to get upset.

BROOKE

Then keep your opinion to yourself. I like my hair the way it is.

Brooke puts her phone down and sits upright. Her expression changes.

BROOKE

Who do you think you are? Do you think whatever you say is automatically going to happen? Mind your own business, Bethany! I know what looks good on me.

Bethany’s fingers tighten around her coffee cup. Her face turns red with anger.

BETHANY

You are crossing a line, Brooke.

BROOKE

Nobody is cutting my hair unless I decide to do it myself!

Brooke walks upstairs without waiting for a response. Bethany remains alone in the living room, humiliated and furious.

BETHANY

Fine, Brooke. If you think you know everything, let’s see what happens next.

SCENE 2 — BETHANY’S BEDROOM, LATE AFTERNOON

Bethany closes her bedroom door and walks toward the mirror. Brooke’s insulting words keep replaying in her mind.

BETHANY

Larry will never understand. He always thinks Brooke can do whatever she wants.

She begins pacing around the room. Her eyes land on a pair of scissors inside a drawer.

Bethany stops and stares at them. A dangerous idea crosses her mind.

BETHANY

You said nobody could touch your hair unless you allowed it? Let’s see how confident you are tomorrow morning.

She puts the scissors away, but her mind is already made up. Instead of apologizing, Bethany begins planning how to make Brooke regret humiliating her.

SCENE 3 — THE DINING ROOM, EVENING

The family gathers around the dining table. Larry checks his phone while Brooke eats. Bethany enters carrying a serving dish, forcing herself to smile.

LARRY

Is everything okay? You two have been unusually quiet.

BROOKE

Everything is fine.

BETHANY

Of course, everything is fine.

Larry looks from one woman to the other.

LARRY

Are you sure? It feels like I walked into the middle of something.

BROOKE

Dad, I don’t want to talk about it.

BETHANY

Nobody wants to talk about anything in this house anymore.

Brooke rolls her eyes, and the argument begins again.

BROOKE

This is about a haircut! I said no, and she won’t leave me alone!

LARRY

Brooke, it’s your hair. You can decide what you want to do with it.

BROOKE

Thank you. At least somebody understands that.

Bethany puts down her plate and walks away.

LARRY

Bethany, come back. We are having dinner.

BETHANY

I’m not hungry anymore.

Upstairs, Bethany hears Brooke’s dismissive response to Larry. Her anger returns, and she decides the night will not end without consequences.

SCENE 4 — THE HOUSE GOES QUIET, NIGHT

Hours pass. Larry heads to bed, and Brooke stays in her room watching videos and messaging her friends.

Bethany sits on her bed, watching the clock. When the house finally becomes quiet, she gets up and opens her drawer.

The scissors are still there.

BETHANY

She thinks she can disrespect me and get away with it.

She takes the scissors and slips them into her pocket.

BETHANY

Tomorrow morning, she will understand.

Bethany walks through the dark hallway toward Brooke’s bedroom. She stops at the door, listens carefully, and gently pushes it open.

SCENE 5 — BROOKE’S BEDROOM, AFTER MIDNIGHT

Brooke sleeps peacefully beneath her blanket, unaware that Bethany has entered her room.

Bethany stands beside the bed, looking at Brooke’s hair. For a moment, she hesitates. But her anger quickly takes control again.

BETHANY

You should have listened when I gave you a chance.

She begins cutting a small section of Brooke’s hair. A few strands fall onto the pillow.

Suddenly, Brooke shifts in her sleep. Bethany freezes, then cautiously continues.

Another sound from the scissors breaks the silence.

Brooke’s eyes suddenly open.

BROOKE

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

Bethany jerks backward in shock. Brooke sits up, sees the scissors, and realizes what is happening.

BROOKE

Have you lost your mind?!

Bethany tries to explain, but Brooke pushes her hand away. In the confusion, Brooke slaps Bethany across the face. The scissors fall onto the carpet.

BROOKE

You came into my room in the middle of the night with scissors! You were cutting my hair while I was sleeping!

BETHANY

I was trying to teach you a lesson!

BROOKE

A lesson? This is your revenge because I said no?

Brooke looks at the strands scattered across her pillow. Her anger mixes with hurt and disbelief.

BROOKE

You are an adult, Bethany! You are supposed to know better!

Bethany struggles to defend herself.

BETHANY

You disrespected me today!

BROOKE

And you violated my trust! I don’t even know who you are anymore.

SCENE 6 — THE HALLWAY, MOMENTS LATER

Footsteps thunder down the hallway. Larry appears at Brooke’s bedroom door after hearing the shouting.

LARRY

What is going on in here?!

He notices Brooke’s tears, the scissors on the carpet, and the cut strands of hair on the pillow.

LARRY

Bethany, tell me she is not telling the truth.

BROOKE

Dad, she came into my room while I was sleeping. She was cutting my hair!

BETHANY

She disrespected me, Larry! She thinks she can say anything she wants to me!

LARRY

So you thought this was an acceptable way to handle it?

Bethany looks away. Larry’s disappointment is obvious.

LARRY

You could have walked away. You could have talked to me. But you chose to come into her room while she was sleeping.

BROOKE

I don’t want her in my room again. She crossed a line tonight, and I don’t know if I can ever trust her again.

BETHANY

You slapped me!

BROOKE

And you violated my trust! Do you really want to compare what happened?

Larry asks Bethany to leave Brooke alone for the night.

BETHANY

You will regret making me your enemy.

LARRY

Bethany, don’t make this worse.

Bethany walks out. Larry sits beside Brooke and tries to comfort her.

BROOKE

I just want to know why she hates me so much.

LARRY

What she did was wrong. She needs to take responsibility for it.

Brooke leans against her father, crying. Larry knows the family will not be the same after tonight.

SCENE 7 — BETHANY’S BEDROOM, THE NEXT MORNING

The first rays of sunlight enter Bethany’s bedroom. Bethany sits on her bed, staring at her phone. She has barely slept.

BETHANY

She made me look like a monster.

She looks at herself in the mirror.

BETHANY

I only wanted her to respect me.

A knock sounds at the door.

LARRY

Bethany, we need to talk.

Larry tells her that Brooke wants answers and no longer feels safe around her.

LARRY

This cannot be brushed aside like another family argument.

Bethany closes the door, shaken. She reaches for her phone, and a new message appears from Brooke.

BROOKE’S MESSAGE

I know what you were really trying to do last night. And after what I found in your room this morning, I know this wasn’t just about my hair.

Bethany’s face loses all color.

BETHANY

No… she couldn’t have found that.

Another message arrives. This time, there is an attachment.

Bethany taps the screen. Her eyes widen as she sees what Brooke has discovered.
