Wayne’s True Colors
YAYA’S HEARTBREAK & AMBER’S SECRET SMILE
SCENE 1: THE GIRLS’ GATHERING
INT. LIVING ROOM — AFTERNOON
The girls sit together in a comfortable living room, chatting and enjoying one another’s company. Yaya looks happier than she has in a long time. Amber sits nearby, quietly observing her.
YAYA
Amber, honestly, I feel like Wayne has changed so much. I know people have their opinions about him, and I know his past isn’t exactly perfect, but I don’t think he’s the same man anymore.
Yaya smiles warmly, convinced that Wayne has become a better man.
YAYA
We all know how he used to be. He had women coming in and out of his life, and sometimes it seemed like he was only interested in what he could get from them. But I honestly believe he’s grown beyond that.
AMBER
Oh, really? And what makes you so sure about that?
YAYA
Because I see it in the way he treats me. He listens to me, he makes time for me, and he makes me feel like I actually matter. I don’t feel like I’m competing with other women. I feel like I’m the woman he genuinely wants to be with.
AMBER
Well, I’m glad you’re feeling that way. Everybody deserves to feel loved and respected.
YAYA
Exactly! That’s why I don’t want people judging him forever because of his past. Wayne has been loyal to me, and I believe he’s serious about building something real.
Amber lowers her gaze, hiding the expression threatening to appear on her face.
AMBER (V.O.): Oh, Yaya. If only you knew the whole story. You don’t even know that Wayne and I have a past of our own.
YAYA
I just feel like people should give him a chance. He deserves the opportunity to show everyone that he can be different.
AMBER
Of course. Sometimes people surprise us.
Eventually, the girls gather their belongings and prepare to leave. Yaya stands with a bright smile, unaware of Amber’s private thoughts.
YAYA
It was so nice sitting down with everybody. We need to do this again soon!
AMBER
Definitely. We should.
AMBER (V.O.): Enjoy your happiness while it lasts, Yaya. Sometimes the truth doesn’t need much time to destroy a beautiful illusion.
SCENE 2: YAYA CONFRONTS WAYNE
INT. WAYNE’S LIVING ROOM — LATER
Wayne stands in the living room, visibly irritated. Amber sits on the sofa, quietly watching him. When Yaya enters, her smile quickly fades as she notices his angry expression.
YAYA
Hey, Wayne. What’s going on? You look upset.
Wayne turns toward her with a frustrated expression.
WAYNE
You really want to know what’s wrong?
YAYA
Yes, of course I do. Why are you talking to me like that?
WAYNE
Because I’m trying to understand why you felt the need to make such a big deal out of everything! Why were you telling everybody that I used the women from my past?
YAYA
Wayne, I wasn’t trying to make you look bad. That’s not what I meant at all.
WAYNE
Don’t sit there acting like you don’t know what I’m talking about. You make it sound like I was some terrible person who went around using people whenever it suited me.
YAYA
No! That’s not what I was saying. I was actually defending you!
Yaya steps closer, desperately trying to explain herself.
YAYA
I told them that I believe you’ve changed. I said that I see something different in you, and that I believe you’re loyal to me. I was trying to show them that I trust you.
WAYNE
And you thought the best way to defend me was to discuss my private life in front of everybody?
YAYA
I didn’t think you would take it this way. I was only talking about how much things have improved between us.
WAYNE
You know what? I expected more from you. I thought you were a mature woman. But apparently, you’re no different from everybody else.
His words hit Yaya hard. Her eyes fill with tears as Amber silently watches from the sofa.
YAYA
Wayne, please don’t say that. You know I care about you.
SCENE 3: YAYA BREAKS DOWN
INT. WAYNE’S LIVING ROOM — CONTINUOUS
Yaya takes a shaky breath, struggling to control her emotions. Tears begin rolling down her cheeks as she tries to make Wayne understand her intentions.
YAYA
I’m sorry, Wayne. I really am. I didn’t realize my words would hurt you this much. Please believe me when I say I never meant to disrespect you.
WAYNE
You should have kept my name out of that conversation.
Overwhelmed by guilt and afraid of losing him, Yaya slowly kneels in front of Wayne.
YAYA
Wayne, please forgive me. I’m asking you from the bottom of my heart. I never wanted to hurt you. I never wanted you to feel like I was judging you or making fun of your past.
YAYA
Please don’t let one conversation destroy everything we have. You mean so much to me, Wayne. I don’t want to lose what we’ve been building.
Wayne looks down at her, his expression cold. Instead of softening, his anger grows stronger.
WAYNE
Get up!
Yaya flinches at his sudden command.
WAYNE
Did you hear me? Get up off the floor!
YAYA
I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Wayne.
Wayne raises his finger toward her face, his voice turning threatening.
“DON’T PUSH ME, YAYA!”
WAYNE
You need to stop talking before you make this situation even worse! Don’t push me, Yaya. Because if you don’t stop, I might slap you!
Yaya takes a step backward, frightened by the man standing before her.
YAYA
Wayne… I didn’t know you were this angry.
WAYNE
Well, now you know! And I want you out of my face! Get out of my sight. Right now!
YAYA
I just wanted you to know that I believe in you. I never thought you would speak to me like this.
Wayne turns away, refusing to acknowledge her pain. Yaya presses her lips together and slowly walks toward the door.
SCENE 4: AMBER’S SECRET SATISFACTION
INT. WAYNE’S LIVING ROOM — MOMENTS LATER
Amber has watched the entire confrontation without intervening. She saw Yaya kneel before Wayne and heard her desperate apologies. Now, she struggles to hide the smile spreading across her face.
AMBER (V.O.): Well, look at that. The woman who was just telling everybody how wonderful Wayne has become is now crying because of him.
Yaya pauses near the doorway, hoping Wayne might call her name or offer even a small apology. He does neither.
She opens the door and walks out, quietly closing it behind her. The sound echoes through the room.
WAYNE
What’s so funny?
Amber immediately composes herself.
AMBER
Nothing. I’m just surprised by how quickly things got out of hand.
WAYNE
She needs to understand that there are certain things you don’t discuss with other people. I don’t care how she meant it. She shouldn’t have been talking about me like that.
AMBER
I understand what you’re saying. But maybe she really was trying to defend you. Sometimes people don’t realize how their words are going to sound until somebody takes them the wrong way.
WAYNE
I’m not discussing this anymore.
AMBER
Okay. I’m just saying.
Amber leans back against the sofa, keeping her expression neutral. Inside, however, she is thinking about the secret she and Wayne share.
AMBER (V.O.): You still don’t know about me and Wayne. You don’t know what happened between us, and you certainly don’t know everything about the man you’re defending.
AMBER
Well, I should probably get going.
WAYNE
All right.
Amber walks toward the exit but turns back before leaving.
AMBER
Wayne, just be careful. Sometimes the things we try to hide have a way of coming back when we least expect them.
WAYNE
What is that supposed to mean?
AMBER
Nothing. Just something to think about.
Amber leaves before Wayne can question her further. Outside, her satisfied smile returns. Yaya is hurt, Wayne is angry, and their shared past remains a secret.
AMBER (V.O.): Today, you saw his temper. Tomorrow, you might discover something much worse.
The real question is no longer whether Yaya believes Wayne has changed. It is how long she can continue believing it when the man she loves keeps revealing another side of himself.
TO BE CONTINUED…
Will Yaya discover the truth about Wayne and Amber?
