Amber Signs the
Divorce Papers
Morning light fills the quiet room. Amber sits on the couch, staring at her phone. Her expression is calm, but there is a sense of finality in her eyes. She takes a deep breath and dials Anthony’s number.
Silence on the other end. Anthony looks down at the documents on his desk.
She ends the call and sets the phone down. She knows that once those papers are signed, her marriage to Anthony will officially be over. But unlike before, she does not look heartbroken — she looks ready to move forward.
Amber walks through the hallway carrying her purse. Dave waits near the front door, watching her carefully.
He opens the door. They leave together.
A car pulls into the driveway. Amber and Dave step out. For a brief moment, memories of her marriage to Anthony cross her mind — she quickly pushes them away.
Inside, the divorce papers are arranged neatly on the table, a pen resting beside them.
Anthony slowly picks up the pen. A long silence.
Anthony looks surprised. He expected an argument. He expected tears. Instead, Amber looks completely at peace.
Anthony lowers his eyes and signs his name — the sound of the pen filling the quiet room. Amber picks up the pen. For one final moment, she looks at him.
She signs the divorce papers and puts the pen down. The marriage is finally coming to an end. Dave watches with quiet support. Amber takes a deep breath — she feels lighter.
She turns toward the door. Dave follows. Anthony remains standing beside the table, holding the signed papers.
Amber and Dave return home. Dave’s daughter is sitting in the living room and immediately notices the serious expressions on their faces.
Dave’s daughter is quiet for a moment, then speaks honestly.
The room goes quiet. Amber remains calm — she understands exactly what she means.
The sun begins to set outside. Amber stands near the window. Dave joins her. For a moment, neither says anything.
Anthony stands alone in the living room. The signed divorce papers sit on the table. His phone rings — D’Nisha.
Amber sits quietly with Dave and his daughter. There is no celebration, no dramatic confrontation — just the feeling that something important has finally changed.
For the first time, Amber feels like she has a clear path ahead. The past is closing. The future is waiting.
Outside, the night settles over the house. Somewhere across town, Anthony prepares to marry D’Nisha. Two lives are moving in completely different directions. But for Amber, one thing is certain — her marriage to Anthony is finally coming to an end, and her new chapter is about to begin.
Her marriage is closing. Her chapter is opening.
