LACREESHA KICKS HOPE AND FAITH OUT
😡
A PAINFUL FAMILY CONFRONTATION
🎬 SCENE 1 — INT. LACREESHA’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — AFTERNOON
The afternoon sun shines through the living room windows. Hope and Faith sit together on the couch, talking quietly about their uncertain future. Their belongings rest beside them. Neither girl realizes that Lacreesha has already made a decision that will change their lives.
Lacreesha enters the room with a serious expression. She stops in front of them, folds her arms, and looks at both girls with visible frustration.
LACREESHA
I’ve had enough of both of you! I am tired of having the same conversation over and over again. Nothing changes, and I refuse to keep pretending that everything is fine.
Hope immediately looks up. Faith slowly puts down her phone and studies Lacreesha’s expression.
HOPE
Lacreesha, what’s wrong? Why are you looking at us like that? Did something happen while we were sitting here?
LACREESHA
Something has been wrong for a long time! Both of you need to get out of my house. I don’t want you staying here anymore.
Hope stares at her, unable to believe what she has just heard. Faith rises from the couch, hoping that Lacreesha will calm down if they speak respectfully.
FAITH
Please don’t say that. We know you’re upset, but you haven’t even given us a chance to understand what’s happening. We can talk about whatever is bothering you.
LACREESHA
Talk? That’s all I hear from you two! You talk about your plans, your friends, and everything you want to do. But when it comes to taking responsibility, suddenly neither of you knows what to do.
HOPE
We never wanted to disrespect you. We thought we could stay here while we worked out our next steps. We didn’t know you felt this way about us.
LACREESHA
Then perhaps you should have paid attention to what I’ve been telling you. I have tried to be patient, but my patience is running out.
Hope looks toward Faith, hoping she will find the right words. Faith takes a deep breath, but Lacreesha turns toward the front door and points firmly.
LACREESHA
I want both of you to pack your belongings and leave. I have made up my mind.
The room falls silent. Hope’s eyes begin to fill with tears, while Faith struggles to hide her shock. Neither girl expected a disagreement to end with them being thrown out.
🎬 SCENE 2 — LACREESHA’S ANGER BOILS OVER
Lacreesha walks toward the center of the living room. Her frustration grows as she remembers the conversations they have had about work and the future. She believes Hope and Faith have spent too much time following their friends and not enough time building their own lives.
LACREESHA
Do you know what makes me even angrier? Neither of you is going to work at Whataburger! You have an opportunity to start earning money and become more independent, but you keep putting other things first.
HOPE
We haven’t said that we will never work. We are trying to figure things out. You make it sound as if we don’t care about our future at all.
LACREESHA
Then show me that you care! I don’t want to hear another promise that leads nowhere. I want to see you make serious decisions and follow through with them.
Faith steps forward, keeping her voice calm even though Lacreesha’s words are beginning to hurt.
FAITH
We understand that having a job is important. We know Whataburger could help us become independent. But you cannot expect us to solve every problem in one day.
LACREESHA
I am not asking you to solve everything in one day! I am asking you to stop wasting your time chasing after your friends while ignoring the responsibilities in front of you.
LACREESHA
You keep following people around, worrying about what they are doing, and putting their needs ahead of your own. What are those friends going to do when you need money, a place to live, or a stable future?
HOPE
Our friends matter to us. They have been there for us, and we don’t want to abandon them just because things are difficult.
LACREESHA
Caring about your friends is one thing. Forgetting about your own future is another. You can care about people without allowing your entire life to revolve around them.
Hope lowers her eyes. She understands that Lacreesha is disappointed, but the harshness of the conversation makes it difficult for her to explain herself.
FAITH
We aren’t trying to waste our lives. Sometimes we make mistakes because we don’t know which direction to take. We need advice, not another argument.
LACREESHA
I’ve given you advice. I’ve told you what worries me. But now I need to think about my own peace, too. I cannot keep carrying this responsibility when neither of you is willing to listen.
Lacreesha gestures toward the door again. Her decision appears final, and the two girls realize that another argument may only make things worse.
🎬 SCENE 3 — HOPE BEGS FOR ONE MORE CHANCE
Hope slowly approaches Lacreesha. Her voice trembles, but she tries to remain composed. She remembers the moments when Lacreesha offered them a place to stay and believed they could make things work.
HOPE
Lacreesha, please listen to me. We appreciate what you’ve done for us. We never wanted you to feel as if we were taking advantage of your kindness. We thought we had a chance to get back on our feet here.
LACREESHA
And I thought you would use that chance to make better decisions. I thought you would focus on finding work and preparing for your future. Instead, we keep returning to the same problems.
HOPE
I understand why you’re disappointed. But if we’ve made mistakes, tell us what we can do differently. We can start looking for jobs seriously. We can make a plan and stop arguing about the same things.
Lacreesha looks away. For a moment, Hope believes that her words might have reached her. She takes another step forward.
HOPE
Please don’t send us away as if we mean nothing to you. We came here because we believed we could count on you when things became difficult. We didn’t expect everything to be easy, but we hoped you would help us find a way forward.
LACREESHA
You keep saying you want help, Hope, but help also requires effort. I cannot make every decision for you. I cannot apply for jobs in your place or force you to think about what comes next.
HOPE
You don’t have to do everything for us. Just give us the opportunity to prove that we can change. We are asking for time, not for you to solve our entire lives.
Lacreesha closes her eyes briefly. She looks exhausted, caught between the possibility of giving them another chance and her determination to end the situation.
LACREESHA
I have heard these promises before. Every time we argue, you say things will be different. Then the argument ends, and we return to the same place.
HOPE
What if this time really is different? What if we take everything you’ve said seriously and start making changes tomorrow?
LACREESHA
No, Hope. I am tired of giving chances that lead to the same arguments. You need to understand that your decisions have consequences.
Hope steps back, hurt by the answer. She looks at Faith, silently asking whether there is anything else they can do. Faith shakes her head slightly, realizing that Lacreesha is not ready to reconsider.
🎬 SCENE 4 — FAITH MAKES HER FINAL APPEAL
Faith stands beside Hope. She is disappointed, but she refuses to let the conversation turn into shouting. She wants Lacreesha to understand that although they may have made mistakes, they still deserve to be treated with respect.
FAITH
Lacreesha, we hear what you’re saying. Maybe we have spent too much time worrying about other people. Maybe we haven’t focused enough on finding work and making our own plans. We can admit that there are things we need to change.
LACREESHA
Then why haven’t you changed them already? Why does it take another argument before you start talking about responsibility?
FAITH
Because we’re trying to figure things out, too. We don’t always know what the right decision is. That doesn’t mean we don’t care or that we want to take advantage of you.
LACREESHA
I cannot keep putting my life on hold while you two decide what you want. I have my own responsibilities, and I need peace in my home.
FAITH
We understand that. But there is a difference between asking someone to take responsibility and telling them they have nowhere to go. You know this decision could leave us in a difficult situation.
Lacreesha folds her arms. Her face becomes stern again, and she avoids Faith’s eyes.
LACREESHA
Then you should have thought about your next steps before reaching this point. You cannot keep depending on me while refusing to take the advice I give you.
FAITH
We aren’t asking you to support us forever. We are asking for enough time to find somewhere else to stay and work out our next move.
LACREESHA
My decision is final. Both of you need to leave.
Faith stares at her in disbelief. Hope looks down at the floor, realizing that their appeals have failed.
HOPE
So that’s it? After everything, you’re not even willing to let us stay until we can make arrangements?
LACREESHA
I have said what I needed to say. Pack your things and go.
Faith takes Hope’s hand. The girls exchange a sad look, then begin gathering their belongings. They know they cannot force Lacreesha to change her mind.
🎬 SCENE 5 — PACKING UP THE PAIN
Hope bends down and picks up her bag. Faith collects the rest of their belongings from beside the couch. The room that once offered them a temporary sense of security now feels unfamiliar and cold.
Lacreesha watches from the hallway. She remains silent as the girls gather their things, although the tension in her expression suggests that the situation is affecting her more than she wants to admit.
HOPE
I never imagined we would end up leaving this house like this. I thought we would have time to work things out. I thought you would tell us what needed to change before making a decision this serious.
LACREESHA
I have told you what needed to change. You may not agree with how I’m handling this, but I have reached my limit.
HOPE
We came here because we thought you cared about us. We weren’t trying to make your life difficult. We needed a place to breathe and figure out what to do next.
LACREESHA
Caring about you doesn’t mean I have to agree with every choice you make. Sometimes people have to face the consequences of their decisions before they understand how serious those decisions are.
Faith lifts the last bag and turns toward Lacreesha. Her voice is quiet, but her words carry the disappointment she has been holding back.
FAITH
Maybe you’re right about some things. Maybe we need to stop putting so much energy into other people’s lives and start focusing on our own. But I hope you understand that the way you’re sending us away hurts.
LACREESHA
I didn’t want another argument. I wanted you to understand that things cannot continue the way they have been. I cannot keep repeating myself and hoping something will change.
FAITH
Then I hope one day we can talk about this without all the anger. I don’t want this moment to be the only thing we remember about each other.
Lacreesha looks at Faith, but she does not answer immediately. For a moment, her expression softens. She seems to consider saying something kinder, perhaps even offering them a little more time.
Instead, she turns toward the entrance and opens the front door.
LACREESHA
You can spend your time with your friends now. You can go wherever you want and make whatever choices you want. But you cannot expect me to keep solving your problems while you refuse to take responsibility for yourselves.
Hope picks up her bag. Faith reaches for her hand, offering silent support. Together, they walk toward the open door, leaving behind the place they had hoped would remain their temporary home.
🎬 SCENE 6 — EXT. LACREESHA’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON
Hope and Faith step outside with their belongings. The afternoon sun shines over the quiet street, but neither girl pays attention to the beautiful weather. Their minds are filled with worry about where they will go next.
Lacreesha stands in the doorway. She watches them for a moment, waiting for them to leave. Hope turns around, unable to accept that the conversation is really over.
HOPE
Lacreesha, please think about this one more time. We don’t have everything figured out yet. You don’t have to forgive us for every mistake, but could you at least give us time to make another arrangement?
LACREESHA
