Purnell Gifts Jade a “Wet Package” to Win Her Back — But She Smashes It in Anger!

Jade stared at Purnell through the half-open door, her expression filled with frustration. For days, he had been trying to get close to her, but she had made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him. Every time he called, she ignored him. Every time he tried to visit, she found an excuse to send him away. And now, Purnell was standing outside her door with a beautifully wrapped gift, convinced that this time he could finally change her mind.

PURNELL: “Jade, please. Can you just give me five minutes? I didn’t come here to argue with you. I came because I want us to talk.”

JADE: “Purnell, how many times do I have to tell you that I don’t want to see you? You keep showing up like you don’t understand the words coming out of my mouth!”

Purnell lowered his eyes for a moment, holding the gift behind his back. He knew Jade was angry, but he believed that if she saw what he had brought, she might at least be willing to hear him out.

PURNELL: “I understand you’re upset with me, but I’m trying to make things right. I brought you something special.”

Jade folded her arms and shook her head.

JADE: “You think buying me something is going to fix everything? That’s your problem, Purnell. You never listen. You just do whatever you want and expect me to accept it.”

PURNELL: “That’s not what I’m doing. I know things haven’t been good between us, and I know I’ve made mistakes. But I still want to be around you.”

JADE: “Then maybe you should start by respecting the fact that I don’t want you around right now!”

Her words hit Purnell harder than he expected. Still, he refused to leave without at least showing her the gift. He slowly brought the package forward and held it out to her.

PURNELL: “Just look at it, Jade. That’s all I’m asking. You don’t even have to say anything afterward.”

Jade glanced at the box, then back at his face.

JADE: “What is that supposed to be?”

PURNELL: “It’s a little surprise. Something I thought you might like.”

JADE: “A surprise? Purnell, I don’t want surprises from you!”

PURNELL: “You haven’t even opened it yet!”

JADE: “And I don’t have to! You don’t get to decide what I should want!”

Purnell took a deep breath, trying to keep his temper under control. He had spent time choosing the gift because he believed it might help him get closer to Jade again. The package represented his attempt to break through the wall she had built between them. Unfortunately, he had made one serious mistake: he had focused on what he wanted instead of what Jade actually wanted.

PURNELL: “Jade, this is the wet package you’ve been talking about. I thought if I got it for you, maybe you’d stop shutting me out and let me come around.”

Jade’s eyes widened in disbelief.

JADE: “Wait a minute. You actually bought me that?”

PURNELL: “Yes! I figured it might make you happy. I thought we could finally stop going back and forth about it.”

For a moment, Jade said nothing. Then her expression changed from disbelief to outright anger.

JADE: “You have got to be kidding me! You really think this is going to make everything okay?”

PURNELL: “I didn’t say it would fix everything. I was just trying to do something nice for you!”

JADE: “No, Purnell! You were trying to get what you wanted! You thought if you bought me this package, I would suddenly let you back into my life!”

PURNELL: “That’s not fair, Jade. I’m trying to show you that I care!”

JADE: “Then why don’t you listen when I tell you to leave me alone?”

Purnell’s face tightened. He had expected her to be surprised, perhaps even amused. He had never imagined that she would react this strongly to his gesture.

PURNELL: “So you’re really going to get mad at me for buying you something?”

JADE: “I’m mad because you keep ignoring what I’m telling you! You think everything has a price, and if you spend enough money, people will give you what you want. That’s not how this works!”

Jade reached for the package, and Purnell briefly looked relieved. He thought she might finally open it.

PURNELL: “See? Just take a look at it. Maybe you’ll understand what I was trying to do.”

But Jade didn’t open the box. Instead, she held it up, examining the wrapping with a look of disbelief.

JADE: “You really came all the way over here with this, thinking I was going to be impressed?”

PURNELL: “Jade, please don’t turn this into something it isn’t.”

JADE: “You turned it into something when you refused to listen to me!”

Before Purnell could respond, Jade threw the box down onto the floor. The package hit hard, and the wrapping split open along one side.

Purnell jumped back in shock.

PURNELL: “JADE! What are you doing?”

Jade stared down at the damaged gift, her anger only growing.

JADE: “I’m showing you exactly what I think about this!”

She kicked the box away from her feet, sending it sliding across the floor. The lid came loose, and the contents spilled partially out of the torn packaging.

Purnell looked at the broken box as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

PURNELL: “You didn’t have to destroy it! I spent my money on that!”

JADE: “And I never asked you to!”

PURNELL: “You could have just told me you didn’t want it!”

JADE: “I DID tell you! I told you I didn’t want you coming over here, and you still showed up with a gift you thought would change my mind!”

Purnell bent down to pick up the damaged package, his face burning with embarrassment. He had come to Jade’s home believing he could win her over, but now he felt as though she had rejected not only his gift but every effort he had made to get close to her.

PURNELL: “You know what, Jade? Sometimes I wonder if you even care how I feel. You act like I’m the only person who ever makes mistakes.”

Jade’s expression softened for just a second, but her frustration remained.

JADE: “I’m not saying you can’t have feelings, Purnell. I’m saying my feelings matter too. You don’t get to ignore my boundaries just because you’re trying to make yourself feel better.”

He stood up slowly, holding the damaged box against his side.

PURNELL: “So that’s it? You’re just going to keep pushing me away?”

JADE: “Right now, yes. Because you aren’t hearing me. And until you learn to respect what I’m saying, nothing is going to change.”

Purnell shook his head, struggling to find an answer. He wanted to argue, but somewhere beneath his anger, he knew that Jade had a point. He had been so focused on getting another chance that he had failed to consider whether she was ready to give him one.

PURNELL: “I really thought this would make you happy.”

JADE: “Then you should have asked me what would make me happy instead of deciding for me.”

The silence that followed was painful. Purnell glanced at the broken package one last time before turning toward the door.

PURNELL: “Fine, Jade. I’ll leave. But don’t come looking for me when you realize I was only trying to do something good for you.”

Jade stepped aside, opening the door wider.

JADE: “You don’t have to worry about that. Just go.”

Purnell walked out without another word. Jade shut the door behind him, leaning against it as she tried to calm herself. She had wanted him to understand her, but the confrontation had left her more frustrated than before.

Outside, Purnell reached his car and placed the damaged package on the passenger seat. He sat behind the wheel, staring straight ahead.

His phone suddenly rang.

It was Jade.

Purnell froze. Only moments earlier, she had demanded that he leave. Now she was calling him back.

He answered immediately.

PURNELL: “Jade? What’s going on? Did you change your mind?”

Her voice came through the phone, quieter than before but still tense.

JADE: “No, I didn’t change my mind about the gift. But there’s something I need to tell you, and I don’t want you hearing it from somebody else.”

Purnell sat up straight.

PURNELL: “What are you talking about?”

Jade hesitated, and he could hear her take a deep breath.

JADE: “The reason I’ve been keeping my distance from you isn’t just about that wet package. There’s something you’ve been doing that I haven’t told you about yet.”

Purnell’s heart began to pound.

PURNELL: “Jade, what did I do?”

For several seconds, she said nothing.

Then she finally spoke.

JADE: “If you really want to know why I don’t want you near me, come back tomorrow—but don’t bring another gift. Come ready to hear the truth.”

The call ended.

Purnell stared at his phone, unable to understand what had just happened. He had gone to Jade’s home hoping a gift would bring them closer, only to watch her destroy it in anger. Now she was asking him to return for a conversation that sounded far more serious than anything they had discussed before.

He looked at the broken package on the passenger seat and slowly tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

PURNELL: “What truth could she possibly have to tell me?”

Across town, Jade stood by her window, watching his car disappear down the street. Her anger had not disappeared, but neither had the worry on her face.

Tomorrow, Purnell would return expecting answers.

What he didn’t know was whether he would be ready to hear them.
