Bethany and Larry: The Marriage That Fell Apart

BETHANY AND LARRY: THE MARRIAGE THAT FELL APART

A Cinematic Story of Heartbreak, Family Conflict, and a Painful Decision

SCENE 1: BETHANY FINALLY SPEAKS OUT

INT. BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE — DAY

The house is silent. Bethany sits on the couch, holding her phone and struggling to control her emotions. Her marriage has become increasingly distant, and she feels as though every attempt to reconnect with Larry ends in disappointment.

BETHANY

“Dad, I need someone to talk to. Things between me and Larry are getting worse. He keeps his distance, ignores my feelings, and makes me feel like I’m alone in this marriage.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“Sweetheart, what’s really happening? You’ve sounded unhappy for a long time. Have you tried sitting down with Larry and telling him exactly how you feel?”

BETHANY

“I’ve tried everything! I want affection, communication, and a husband who actually wants to work on our relationship. Instead, I feel like I’m begging for the smallest amount of attention.”

Her father’s expression grows serious as he listens.

BETHANY’S DAD

“A marriage requires two people, Bethany. You cannot carry the entire relationship on your shoulders.”

SCENE 2: A FATHER’S UNEXPECTED ADVICE

INT. BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS

BETHANY

“Are you telling me to leave my husband? Dad, I didn’t get married expecting everything to be perfect. I just want things to get better.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“I’m telling you to stop ignoring your own unhappiness. You deserve respect and honesty. If Larry refuses to work on this marriage, you need to think about your future.”

BETHANY

“You don’t understand what we’ve been through. It’s easy to tell someone to walk away when you’re not the person living through it.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“And it’s difficult for a father to hear his daughter hurting and do nothing. I don’t want you wasting years hoping for a change that may never come.”

Bethany’s frustration finally boils over. She wanted comfort, but the conversation feels like another painful rejection.

BETHANY

“I called because I needed your support, not because I wanted you to tell me my marriage is over!”

BETHANY’S DAD

“Sometimes the truth hurts, sweetheart. But pretending everything is fine won’t fix anything.”

BETHANY

“Forget it, Dad. You clearly don’t understand me!”

She ends the call. Her father stares at his phone, worried that his daughter is pushing everyone away while struggling to save her marriage.

THE DRAMA DEEPENS: Bethany’s father decides that a phone conversation is no longer enough. He wants to see the situation for himself.

SCENE 3: HER FATHER ARRIVES UNEXPECTEDLY

INT. BETHANY’S DAD’S HOUSE — LATER

Unable to stop thinking about Bethany, her father grabs his keys and heads to her house. He knows he cannot make her decisions, but he wants her to understand that she does not have to face everything alone.

INT. BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON

A knock interrupts Bethany’s thoughts. When she opens the door, she is surprised to see her father standing there.

BETHANY

“Dad? Why did you come here after our conversation?”

BETHANY’S DAD

“Because I’m worried about you. You hung up before we could finish talking, and I’m not going to pretend I didn’t hear how unhappy you sounded.”

BETHANY

“You can’t walk into my house and decide what happens to my marriage. This is my life, and I have to make my own choices.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“I’m not trying to control you. I want you to answer one question honestly. Are you happy with Larry?”

Bethany looks away. The silence that follows says more than she can bring herself to admit.

SCENE 4: THE ARGUMENT TAKES A SHOCKING TURN

BETHANY’S DAD

“Come stay with me for a while. Take some space, clear your head, and decide what you really want. You don’t have to solve everything today.”

BETHANY

“No! I’m not leaving my home just because you think you know what’s best for me.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“I’m trying to protect you from getting hurt even more!”

BETHANY

“Then listen to me! I need support, not someone making decisions on my behalf!”

The argument escalates. Her father reaches for her arm and urges her toward the doorway, believing he is helping. Bethany pulls back, upset by the way he is handling the situation.

BETHANY

“Let go, Dad! I can walk by myself. You keep saying you care about me, but you’re not listening to a single word I’m saying!”

Her father pauses, but before either of them can say anything else, Larry appears in the doorway.

SCENE 5: LARRY’S COLD RESPONSE

INT. FRONT DOOR — CONTINUOUS

LARRY

“What’s going on here?”

BETHANY’S DAD

“I’m asking Bethany to come home with me for a while. She needs space away from all this tension.”

LARRY

“Fine. Take her.”

Bethany stares at her husband, stunned by how quickly he agrees to let her leave.

BETHANY

“Larry, is that really all you have to say? You don’t even want to ask me what I want?”

LARRY

“We’ve been arguing for too long. I’m tired of pretending everything is working when it clearly isn’t.”

BETHANY’S DAD

“She’s your wife. She’s telling you she’s unhappy, and you act like none of this matters. Are you even willing to fix this marriage?”

LARRY

“I didn’t ask you to come here and tell me how to live my life. If she wants to go, then she can go.”

Bethany searches Larry’s face for even the smallest sign of concern. His distant expression leaves her feeling more alone than ever.

SCENE 6: THE WORDS THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING

EXT. BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE — MOMENTS LATER

Standing near the entrance, Larry finally voices the frustration he has been carrying for months. Bethany’s father remains beside her, shocked by Larry’s attitude.

LARRY

“Take Bethany with you. I don’t need her anymore. I’m tired of the arguments and the constant problems. I don’t want to keep living like this.”

BETHANY

“You really mean that? After everything we’ve shared, you’re ready to throw our marriage away like it never mattered?”

LARRY

“I’m tired, Bethany. Maybe we both need to admit that this relationship isn’t working.”

BETHANY

“You think I’m not tired? I’ve been trying to reach you, trying to understand you, and trying to save us. I never imagined you would stand here and tell me you don’t need me anymore.”

For a moment, Larry hesitates. But neither of them knows how to bridge the distance that has grown between them.

BETHANY’S DAD

“You have every right to decide what happens in your marriage, Larry. But both of you deserve honesty. If it’s over, say it clearly. If there’s still something worth saving, stop treating each other like enemies.”

LARRY

“I’ve made my decision. Please, just take her home.”

SCENE 7: A PAINFUL GOODBYE

EXT. DRIVEWAY — SUNSET

Bethany looks back at the house where she once imagined spending the rest of her life. Every memory feels different now. Her father’s advice has not given her the answers she wanted, and Larry’s words have left her questioning their entire future.

BETHANY’S DAD

“Come on, sweetheart. You don’t have to figure everything out tonight. Let’s go somewhere you can breathe and think.”

BETHANY

“I don’t know what happens next, Dad. I just never thought my marriage would end up like this.”

Her father walks beside her as she slowly leaves the driveway. Behind them, Larry stands at the entrance, watching without saying another word.

Finally, Larry closes the door. The sound echoes through the quiet house, marking a painful turning point in their relationship.

Bethany keeps walking, carrying unanswered questions and memories of promises that now feel uncertain. Leaving the house does not mean her feelings have disappeared, and her father’s protection cannot decide her future for her.

For the first time, Bethany understands that the next chapter of her life will depend on what she chooses—not simply on what Larry wants or what her father believes is best.
