Lauren Catches Shayla Crossing the Line With Wayne
Lauren Catches Shayla Crossing the Line With Wayne

INT. PODCAST STUDIO – MEETING ROOM – AFTERNOON

The meeting room is filled with tension. Several girls sit around a long glass table, staring at the contract papers Wayne has placed in front of them.

Nobody has signed. The papers remain untouched as whispers fill the room.

Wayne stands at the head of the table, trying to remain calm despite the growing frustration.

WAYNE I gave everyone the same opportunity. These contracts are meant to make everything clear. There shouldn’t be any confusion.
TAMARA Wayne, we’re not signing something just because you put it in front of us.

Several girls nod in agreement. Honey Pot picks up one of the papers and looks through it carefully.

HONEY POT Exactly. We need to understand what we’re agreeing to before we put our names on anything.

Wayne looks around the table before calmly responding.

WAYNE Then read them. Ask questions. That’s why we’re here.

The room becomes quiet again.

WAYNE But I’m not going to force anyone.

Wayne turns and walks toward the door. The moment he leaves, the girls begin talking among themselves.

INT. PODCAST STUDIO – HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

Wayne steps into the quiet hallway and takes a deep breath. The meeting has clearly exhausted him.

He checks his phone when suddenly footsteps approach from behind.

Shayla walks out of the meeting room and closes the door behind her.

SHAYLA Wayne.
WAYNE What’s up?

Shayla walks closer, her expression noticeably softer than it was during the meeting.

SHAYLA I just wanted to talk to you without everyone listening.
WAYNE About the contracts?
SHAYLA Not really.

Wayne looks confused.

WAYNE Then what is it?
SHAYLA Sometimes I feel like you’re listening to everyone except me.

Wayne studies her face carefully.

WAYNE Shayla, this isn’t the time for personal issues. We have a business meeting going on.
SHAYLA I know. But I don’t think you understand what I’m trying to say.
WAYNE Then say it.

Shayla pauses before looking directly into Wayne’s eyes.

SHAYLA I don’t want to feel like I’m just another person standing in line for your attention.
WAYNE Nobody is standing in line.
SHAYLA Then why does it feel that way?

A tense silence fills the hallway. Shayla moves closer, making Wayne visibly uncomfortable.

Wayne realizes that the conversation is moving in a direction he never intended.
WAYNE Shayla, you’re getting too close.
SHAYLA Maybe I’m tired of keeping my distance.

Wayne takes a small step backward.

WAYNE Let’s keep things respectful.
SHAYLA You always say that. But sometimes your actions say something completely different.

LAUREN ARRIVES

Before Wayne can respond, footsteps echo through the hallway.

Lauren appears around the corner.

She stops immediately when she sees Shayla standing unusually close to Wayne.

Lauren’s expression changes from confusion to shock. She has clearly seen enough to make her suspicious.
LAUREN Wow.

Wayne and Shayla turn toward her.

WAYNE Lauren, it’s not what you think.
LAUREN That’s always the first thing people say when they know exactly how it looks.

Shayla immediately becomes defensive.

SHAYLA Nothing happened.
LAUREN Nothing?

Lauren looks from Shayla to Wayne.

LAUREN Because from where I was standing, it looked like you were crossing a line.
SHAYLA I was talking to Wayne.
LAUREN Talking?

Lauren gives Shayla a serious look.

LAUREN Is that what you call it?

LAUREN CONFRONTS WAYNE

Lauren turns her attention completely toward Wayne.

LAUREN Wayne, why did you let Shayla get that close to you?
WAYNE I didn’t invite her to do that.
LAUREN But did you stop her?

Wayne pauses.

Lauren notices the hesitation immediately.

Lauren wants a straight answer, not another excuse.
LAUREN That’s what I want to know.

Shayla looks toward Wayne.

SHAYLA Wayne, tell her.
WAYNE I don’t want this turning into another argument.
LAUREN I’m not trying to argue. I’m asking you a question.
WAYNE Go ahead.
LAUREN Why did you let Shayla get that close to you?

Wayne takes a moment before answering.

WAYNE I told her we needed to keep things respectful.
LAUREN Then make that clear.
WAYNE I will.

THE WARNING

Lauren looks directly at Shayla.

LAUREN And you need to respect that too.

Shayla looks away, clearly irritated.

Lauren then turns back toward Wayne. Her voice becomes quieter, but the emotion behind her words becomes stronger.

LAUREN If I’m going to trust you, I need to know that you’re not going to let situations like this happen again.
WAYNE You have my word.

Lauren studies Wayne’s face. She wants to believe him, but the doubt is still visible in her eyes.

LAUREN I hope so.

Lauren turns and walks toward the meeting room.

After a few steps, she stops.

Without turning around, Lauren delivers one final warning.
LAUREN Because the next time I see someone crossing that line, I won’t just walk away.

Wayne remains silent.

Shayla looks uncomfortable as Lauren opens the meeting-room door.

INT. MEETING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER

The girls inside immediately look toward Lauren.

Lauren walks back to her seat without saying a word.

Tamara looks at her curiously.

TAMARA Everything okay?

Lauren takes a deep breath.

LAUREN I’ll be fine.

Shayla eventually walks back into the room. The atmosphere instantly changes.

Lauren looks at Shayla.

Shayla looks back.

Neither woman says a word, but the tension between them says everything.

Around the table, the other girls can feel that something has happened, but nobody wants to ask.

Meanwhile, Wayne remains outside in the hallway, staring down at the stack of unsigned contracts in his hands.

What started as a simple business meeting has now become a much bigger problem.

The contracts are still unsigned.

The girls are divided.

And now Lauren’s trust in Wayne has been shaken.

FADE OUT.

The meeting may have started with contracts, but now everyone has a personal line they are afraid someone might cross.
