Summary

The Insult That Changed Everything

The atmosphere inside the house is tense. Bethany learns that Jade has disrespected her in front of someone else. Her expression changes as anger and humiliation take over.

BETHANY

Who does Jade think she is? Who gave her the right to disrespect me, especially in front of you?

Bethany shakes her head in disbelief. She feels that Jade has deliberately tried to embarrass her.

BETHANY

I have tolerated enough from people who think they can say whatever they want about me. But Jade has crossed a line this time!

Someone tries to calm Bethany down, but she refuses to listen.

BETHANY

No! You don’t understand. This isn’t just about what she said. It’s about the fact that she thinks she can make me look foolish in front of other people!

Bethany storms out of the room, determined to confront Jade.

Jade and Bethany Face Off

Jade stands in the living room when Bethany walks in. The two women immediately lock eyes. Neither one is willing to back down.

JADE

What’s your problem, Bethany? Why are you looking at me like that?

BETHANY

You already know what my problem is. You think you can disrespect me and walk away like nothing happened?

JADE

I said what I said. You don’t get to control what everybody thinks about you.

Bethany steps closer, her voice rising.

BETHANY

You had no right to embarrass me in front of somebody else!

JADE

And you have no right to come into this house acting like everybody owes you an apology!

BETHANY

You should have kept my name out of your mouth!

JADE

Maybe you should learn how to handle the truth!

The argument quickly escalates into a physical confrontation. In the confusion, Jade suffers a fatal injury. The room suddenly falls silent.

Bethany stands frozen, struggling to understand what has happened.

BETHANY

Jade? Get up. Come on, Jade!

Jade does not respond. Bethany realizes that the situation has become far more serious than she ever imagined.

Larry Arrives and Finds Jade

The front door opens. Larry walks inside, expecting an ordinary day. Instead, he notices the disturbing silence and rushes toward the living room.

LARRY

Jade?

He drops to his knees beside her and carefully lifts her head into his lap. He desperately tries to wake her up.

LARRY

Jade, come on. Open your eyes. Please talk to me!

His voice trembles as he looks at her. Bethany stands nearby, frightened and unable to explain everything clearly.

LARRY

Bethany… what happened here?

BETHANY

Larry, I can explain. Things got out of control.

Larry looks at Bethany in disbelief before turning his attention back to Jade.

LARRY

What do you mean, things got out of control? Look at her! Tell me what happened!

BETHANY

She disrespected me. We started arguing, and everything happened so fast.

LARRY

You let an argument go this far?

Larry immediately calls for emergency assistance, hoping that Jade can still be helped. He remains beside her, overwhelmed by fear and heartbreak.

LARRY

Jade, please. You can’t leave like this. Please!

The Truth About Larry’s Feelings

Bethany watches Larry’s reaction. She has seen him angry before, but she has never seen him this devastated over someone else.

BETHANY

Larry, why are you acting like this? I know you’re upset, but you’re looking at me like I’m your enemy.

Larry slowly turns toward her, his eyes filled with emotion.

LARRY

You want to know why? Because Jade mattered to me!

Bethany’s expression changes as she tries to understand his words.

BETHANY

What is that supposed to mean?

LARRY

It means that you never understood why I needed distance from you. You kept thinking everything was about winning an argument or getting your way.

Larry looks down at Jade, struggling to control his emotions.

LARRY

Jade was someone I cared about deeply. She understood things about me that I couldn’t always explain to you.

BETHANY

So this whole time, you’ve been choosing her over me?

LARRY

This isn’t about choosing sides anymore, Bethany. Look at what has happened!

His voice becomes firm as he confronts her.

LARRY

You were so focused on proving that nobody could disrespect you that you stopped thinking about the consequences of your actions.

BETHANY

Larry, please. I didn’t think this would happen.

LARRY

But it did happen. And now Jade’s life may be gone because neither of you could walk away from an argument.

Larry turns away, remaining focused on Jade. Bethany begins to understand that their relationship may never be the same again.

Purnell Discovers the Truth

Later that day, Purnell enters the house. He immediately notices the tense atmosphere and sees Larry sitting beside Jade.

PURNELL

Larry? What’s going on here?

Larry looks up, exhausted and devastated.

LARRY

Purnell, you need to know what happened.

Purnell approaches slowly. When he realizes the seriousness of the situation, his expression changes.

PURNELL

Where’s Jade? Why is everybody acting like this?

LARRY

There was an argument between Jade and Bethany. It got out of control.

Purnell turns toward Bethany, waiting for an explanation.

PURNELL

Bethany, tell me that’s not what I think it is.

BETHANY

Purnell, I was angry. She disrespected me, and things went too far.

Purnell stares at her in disbelief.

PURNELL

You were angry? That’s your explanation?

He pauses, struggling to understand how the situation reached this point.

PURNELL

People argue every day, Bethany! People hurt each other’s feelings. But that doesn’t mean you get to destroy somebody’s life because you feel disrespected!

BETHANY

You don’t understand what she said to me!

PURNELL

And you don’t seem to understand what you’ve done!

Purnell turns toward Larry, whose attention remains on Jade.

PURNELL

Larry, has anybody called for help?

LARRY

I called as soon as I got here. I’m waiting for someone to tell me she’s going to be okay.

Purnell sees how deeply Larry has been affected.

PURNELL

Man, I’m sorry. I know how much she means to you.

LARRY

I kept trying to move forward, but I never imagined something like this would happen.

Purnell places a hand on Larry’s shoulder before turning back toward Bethany.

PURNELL

You need to tell the truth and take responsibility for your actions. No excuses. No blaming everybody else.

BETHANY

I never wanted this to happen.

PURNELL

Then you should have walked away before things reached this point.

A Family Divided

The house becomes quieter as everyone struggles to process what has happened. Larry remains beside Jade while the emergency response is underway.

Bethany sits alone across the room, realizing that her anger has changed everyone’s lives.

Purnell approaches her one final time.

PURNELL

Bethany, you need to understand something. Being hurt doesn’t give you permission to hurt somebody else. Feeling disrespected doesn’t mean you can ignore the consequences of what you do.

BETHANY

Do you think Larry will ever forgive me?

Purnell looks toward Larry before answering.

PURNELL

Right now, forgiveness isn’t the question. The truth is the question. Jade’s life matters, and what happened needs to be dealt with honestly.

Bethany looks toward Larry, hoping he will turn around and say something to her. But Larry remains focused on Jade.

LARRY

I just wanted her to be okay. That’s all I wanted.

Purnell stands beside him in silence. For the first time, everyone understands that this is no longer just about jealousy, disrespect, or winning an argument.

It is about the devastating consequences of losing control.

Bethany must face what she has done. Larry must confront the possibility of losing someone he deeply loves. And Purnell must decide how to respond to a situation that has shattered the family.
