Larry and Bethany

When Larry Finally Loses Patience With Bethany’s Business Argument

Bethany Confronts Larry

Early in the morning, Larry and Bethany found themselves in another tense confrontation before either of them had really started their day. The bedroom had been quiet only moments earlier, but Bethany was already upset about Larry’s decision not to start a business with her.

Bethany felt that Larry had allowed her to believe there was a real possibility of them working together, only to change his mind later. To her, the business was about more than money. She believed it could give them something positive to focus on and might even help repair their troubled marriage.

As soon as Larry woke up, Bethany confronted him.

Bethany: “Larry, if you already knew you didn’t want to start this business with me, why didn’t you just tell me from the beginning?”

Larry looked exhausted. He had barely opened his eyes before the conversation had turned into another serious disagreement.

Larry: “I told you that I needed time to think about it. I never promised you that we were definitely going to do it.”

Bethany immediately pushed back.

Bethany: “But you let me believe it was going to happen. You made it sound like we were actually going to build something together.”

Larry Tries To Explain

Larry sat up and tried to remain calm. He understood that Bethany was disappointed, but he did not want another argument to begin before the day had even started.

Larry: “Bethany, talking about an idea doesn’t mean I agreed to it. I thought about it, and I decided that starting a business together isn’t something I want to do.”

That answer only made Bethany more frustrated.

Bethany: “You could have said that from the beginning. I wouldn’t have gotten my hopes up or started planning everything in my head.”
Larry: “This is exactly why I didn’t want to keep going back and forth about it.”

But Bethany was not ready to stop. She continued explaining why she believed the business could change everything between them. She argued that working together could give them a new purpose and possibly bring them closer.

The Argument Gets More Intense

Larry listened, but his patience was beginning to disappear. He tried to make Bethany understand that the business could not solve the problems already affecting their marriage.

Larry: “Bethany, the business is not going to fix everything between us. We have bigger problems than that.”
Bethany: “So you’re saying there is nothing I can do to make things better?”
Larry: “That’s not what I said. I’m saying we can’t pretend a business is going to solve every problem we have.”

Bethany kept returning to the same question: why had Larry not been honest with her earlier? Larry repeatedly tried to explain that his decision was final, but the argument continued.

Eventually, Larry reached his limit. He became extremely frustrated and began reacting much more emotionally than he had at the beginning of the conversation.

Larry: “Bethany, I have answered this question over and over again. I am tired. I just woke up, and we are already arguing!”

Bethany Becomes Worried

Bethany stared at Larry. She had expected him to disagree with her, but she was not prepared for such a strong reaction so early in the morning.

Bethany: “Larry, calm down.”

Larry was still overwhelmed by the situation. His frustration had taken over, and he struggled to understand why they were having the same argument again.

Larry: “Why are we doing this again? Every single time I tell you what I want, you keep pushing until we’re right back here!”

Bethany became concerned as she watched Larry react so emotionally. What had started as a conversation about a business had quickly become another difficult moment between them.

Bethany: “I didn’t want this to become a fight.”
Larry: “Then let’s stop fighting. I’m not starting the business. That’s my decision. You don’t have to agree with it, but you do have to respect it.”
The Morning Ends In Tension

Bethany looked away, realizing that continuing the argument was only making the situation worse. For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The morning that was supposed to begin quietly had already become another emotional battle between them. Bethany was still disappointed, while Larry was completely drained from having to defend the same decision again.

The business might have seemed like an opportunity for a fresh start, but for Larry, it had become another source of conflict. After this morning’s confrontation, both of them were left wondering whether they could ever find a way to communicate without turning every disagreement into another major argument.
