ISAIAH’S DINNER TURNS INTO A SHOCKING CONFRONTATION

EXT. UPSCALE HOTEL – EVENING

Golden lights shine across the entrance of a busy hotel.

Cars pull up near the front doors as guests walk inside.

A soft breeze moves through the palm trees surrounding the entrance.

ISAIAH, a young man in his early twenties, steps out of a car.

Beside him is his GIRLFRIEND, smiling as they walk toward the hotel.

Isaiah looks relaxed.

For once, there are no arguments.

No family drama.

Just a quiet evening together.

His girlfriend gently smiles at him.

GIRLFRIEND
I’m glad we finally got some time alone.

Isaiah smiles.

ISAIAH
Me too.

They walk through the hotel entrance.

Neither of them notices the car that pulls into the parking lot behind them.

Isaiah’s FATHER steps out.

He looks serious.

He checks his phone before looking toward the hotel.

Then he notices Isaiah entering with a young woman.

His expression immediately changes.

He stares through the glass doors.

Isaiah’s father recognizes his son.

And he clearly does not expect to see him there.

He walks toward the entrance.

INT. HOTEL RESTAURANT – EVENING

Isaiah and his girlfriend sit at a table near the window.

A waiter places menus in front of them.

Isaiah looks through the menu.

GIRLFRIEND
Everything looks so good.

ISAIAH
Then tonight, you get to choose.

She laughs softly.

GIRLFRIEND
Are you sure?

ISAIAH
Of course.

Isaiah puts the menu down.

For a moment, everything feels peaceful.

Then Isaiah’s girlfriend notices something outside the restaurant.

Her smile disappears.

She looks toward the entrance.

Isaiah follows her eyes.

His father is standing there.

Isaiah freezes.

ISAIAH
Dad?

His father slowly walks toward the table.

Isaiah immediately becomes nervous.

His girlfriend looks uncomfortable.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
What are you doing here?

Isaiah stands.

ISAIAH
Dad, I can explain.

His father looks at the young woman sitting across from Isaiah.

His expression becomes even more serious.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Explain what?

Isaiah takes a breath.

ISAIAH
We came here to have dinner.

His father shakes his head.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Dinner?

He looks around the restaurant.

Then he looks directly at Isaiah.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You couldn’t even tell me where you were going?

ISAIAH
I didn’t think I needed permission to have dinner.

His father steps closer.

Isaiah’s girlfriend quietly stands.

GIRLFRIEND
Sir, we weren’t doing anything wrong.

Isaiah’s father looks at her.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
This isn’t about you.

Isaiah steps between them.

ISAIAH
Dad, don’t talk to her like that.

His father’s anger grows.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You need to watch how you speak to me.

Isaiah remains standing.

The restaurant has become noticeably quieter.

A few customers glance toward the table.

Isaiah lowers his voice.

ISAIAH
Let’s not make a scene.

His father stares at him.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You’re the one making a scene.

Isaiah looks frustrated.

ISAIAH
I’m just trying to have dinner.

His father takes another step forward.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You think I don’t know what’s going on?

Isaiah looks confused.

ISAIAH
What’s that supposed to mean?

His father looks at Isaiah’s girlfriend.

Then back at his son.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You have responsibilities.

Isaiah nods.

ISAIAH
I know.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Then start acting like it.

Isaiah’s girlfriend gently touches his arm.

GIRLFRIEND
Isaiah, maybe we should leave.

Isaiah looks at her.

ISAIAH
Just give me a minute.

His father suddenly becomes more upset.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
A minute?

He points toward the door.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
We’re leaving.

Isaiah doesn’t move.

ISAIAH
I’m not leaving with you.

The words hang in the air.

His father looks stunned.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
What did you say?

Isaiah takes a breath.

ISAIAH
I said I’m staying.

His father walks directly toward him.

Isaiah’s girlfriend steps back.

The tension in the restaurant becomes intense.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You think you’re grown now?

ISAIAH
I never said that.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Then stop acting like you don’t have anyone to answer to.

Isaiah looks down for a moment.

Then he looks back at his father.

ISAIAH
Dad, I respect you.

But you can’t control everything I do.

His father’s face hardens.

He loses his temper.

He steps forward and SLAPS ISAIAH.

The restaurant falls completely silent.

Isaiah stands frozen for a moment.

His girlfriend looks shocked.

She immediately moves closer to him.

GIRLFRIEND
Isaiah!

Isaiah slowly touches his face.

He looks at his father with disbelief.

ISAIAH
Dad…

His father breathes heavily.

He seems angry, but the seriousness of what just happened begins to sink in.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
I warned you.

Isaiah shakes his head.

ISAIAH
You didn’t have to do that.

His girlfriend looks between them.

GIRLFRIEND
Sir, please. Let’s just calm down.

Isaiah’s father turns toward her.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Stay out of this.

Isaiah steps forward.

ISAIAH
No.

His father looks at him.

ISAIAH
If you’re angry with me, be angry with me.

He pauses.

ISAIAH
But don’t take it out on her.

His father remains silent.

The waiter cautiously approaches the table.

WAITER
Is everything okay here?

Isaiah looks at him.

ISAIAH
We’re fine.

The waiter slowly steps away.

Isaiah turns back to his father.

ISAIAH
You came here angry.

You didn’t even ask me what was happening.

His father looks away.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
I saw you with her and thought—

ISAIAH
You thought the worst.

His father doesn’t respond.

Isaiah’s girlfriend takes a breath.

GIRLFRIEND
We were only having dinner.

Isaiah looks at his father.

ISAIAH
That’s all this was.

His father’s expression begins to soften slightly.

But the tension remains.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You should have told me.

Isaiah nods.

ISAIAH
Maybe I should have.

He pauses.

ISAIAH
But hitting me wasn’t the answer.

His father looks at him.

For the first time, neither of them says anything.

The restaurant slowly returns to normal.

Isaiah picks up his jacket.

His girlfriend stands beside him.

GIRLFRIEND
Are we leaving?

Isaiah looks at his father.

Then he looks at her.

ISAIAH
Yeah.

He turns toward the exit.

His father watches him walk away.

Just before Isaiah reaches the door, his father speaks.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Isaiah.

Isaiah stops.

He turns around.

His father looks at him.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
We’ll talk about this at home.

Isaiah nods slowly.

ISAIAH
Okay.

Isaiah walks out with his girlfriend.

His father remains inside the restaurant, staring after them.

The evening that was supposed to be a simple dinner has become a serious family confrontation.

EXT. HOTEL – NIGHT

Isaiah and his girlfriend walk outside.

They stop near the car.

Isaiah looks exhausted.

His girlfriend looks at him with concern.

GIRLFRIEND
Are you okay?

Isaiah takes a deep breath.

ISAIAH
I’m okay.

He looks back toward the hotel.

His father’s silhouette can be seen through the glass doors.

Isaiah’s expression becomes thoughtful.

He knows this argument is far from over.

He opens the car door.

His girlfriend gets inside.

Isaiah follows.

The car slowly drives away.

Behind them, the hotel lights continue to shine.

But the tension between Isaiah and his father is only beginning.

FADE OUT.
