Amber’s New Beginning Could Become Anthony’s Legal Battle

Amber sat quietly, staring at her phone as she tried to process everything happening in her life. She had been thinking about her future for weeks, but now that the decision was becoming real, she realized how complicated everything could become.

Across from her, her lawyer, Constance, listened carefully.

Amber took a deep breath.

“Constance, I just wanted to run something by you real quick.”

Constance nodded. “Of course. What’s going on?”

Amber hesitated before finally saying,

“What do you think about me telling Anthony that I don’t want anything anymore?”

Constance looked at her seriously.

“Anything?”

“I mean everything,” Amber explained. “I think I want to move on with my life. I want to be with Dave. I want to start over and finally have some peace.”

For a moment, Constance said nothing.

Amber continued,

“Dave has been so good to me. He’s been patient, supportive, and honestly, I know moving forward with him would make him happy. I think it would make me happy too.”

“But?” Constance asked.

Amber looked down.

“But I know it might not be the best idea.”

Constance leaned forward. “Amber, you’re still legally married to Anthony. That changes everything.”

“I know,” Amber replied. “That’s why I’m here.”

Constance waited for her to explain.

Amber finally revealed the part that had been bothering her the most.

“Dave bought me a house.”

Constance immediately looked surprised. “A house?”

“Yes. He bought it, and he put my name on the deed.”

Constance paused.

“Amber, are you serious?”

“Yes. My name is on the deed.”

“And you accepted this?”

Amber shook her head slightly.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Dave used his money to buy the house. He just added my name. I thought it was something positive, something that showed he was serious about our future.”

Constance nodded slowly.

“I understand why you see it that way. But legally, we have to look at the bigger picture.”

Amber sighed.

“That’s what scares me. What if Anthony comes after the house?”

Constance answered carefully. “That is exactly the kind of question we need to address before you make any decisions.”

Amber leaned back.

“But Dave bought it. Not Anthony.”

“I understand that,” Constance said. “But the fact that your name is on the deed creates a situation we cannot simply ignore, especially while you are still legally married.”

Amber became visibly frustrated.

“So what am I supposed to do? Walk away from everything?”

“No,” Constance replied firmly. “I’m not telling you to walk away from anything. I’m telling you not to make a decision without understanding the consequences.”

Amber looked at her lawyer.

“I just want to move on. I’m tired of feeling like my entire life is still connected to Anthony.”

“I understand,” Constance said. “But moving on emotionally and protecting yourself legally are two different things.”

Amber remained silent.

Constance continued.

“Look at it this way. If you were completely divorced and there were no unresolved marital-property issues, this conversation would be very different. But right now, you’re still married to Anthony.”

Amber frowned.

“So you think he could actually try to claim something?”

“I think you need to be prepared for the possibility that he could raise questions about the property,” Constance answered. “Whether he would ultimately have a valid claim is a separate legal question. But you should not assume there will be no problem.”

Amber rubbed her forehead.

“This is exactly what I didn’t want.”

“I know,” Constance said. “But this is why you came to me.”

Amber looked toward the window.

“I thought maybe I could just tell Anthony he can have everything. The house, the money, whatever he wants. I don’t want to fight anymore.”

Constance immediately shook her head.

“No. Don’t make that decision right now.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re speaking from emotion. You’re exhausted, and you want this chapter of your life to end. I understand that. But giving up something simply because you want peace could create problems you don’t see yet.”

Amber stared at her.

“So what should I do?”

“Nothing regarding the house until we fully understand your legal position.”

Amber nodded slowly.

Constance continued,

“And going forward, before you allow anyone to buy property for you, put your name on a deed, transfer money, or make any major financial decision, talk to me first.”

Amber gave a small sigh.

“Okay.”

“I’m serious, Amber.”

“I know.”

“Because once something is done, fixing it can become much harder.”

Amber looked down at her phone again.

“I just wanted a fresh start.”

“You can still have one,” Constance said. “But a fresh start doesn’t mean ignoring the past. It means making sure the past cannot come back and create problems for your future.”

Amber looked up.

“So you’re telling me not to do anything about the house?”

“Exactly. Let me handle the legal side. You focus on yourself.”

Amber nodded.

“Okay. I’ll wait.”

Constance smiled slightly.

“And go get something to eat. You look like you haven’t eaten all day.”

Amber laughed softly.

“Maybe I haven’t.”

“Then start there.”

As Amber prepared to end the conversation, she felt slightly relieved. She still wanted Dave. She still wanted a new life. But now she understood that walking away from Anthony would not automatically erase every legal connection between them.

The house that was supposed to represent Amber’s fresh beginning could become the center of a much bigger battle.

And somewhere in the back of her mind, one question remained.

If Anthony found out that Dave had put Amber’s name on the deed, would he really let it go?

Or would he come after the one thing Amber thought could finally belong to her?

Amber had no idea that this conversation with Constance might only be the beginning.

Because once Anthony learned about the house, everything could change.
