Soft evening light fills the quiet living room.

Brooke sits curled on the couch, eyes fixed on her phone.

Larry moves around the room, putting a few items away.

Bethany rests in the armchair, still and silent.

For a moment everything feels ordinary.

Then Bethany lifts a hand to her forehead.

Her eyes close.

Her breathing grows shallow and slow.

LARRY
Bethany?

Bethany opens her eyes. Her face has gone pale.

BETHANY
I… I don’t feel right.

Larry crosses the room at once.

LARRY
What’s wrong?

Bethany tries to rise, but her legs give out. Larry catches her before she can fall.

BETHANY
I’m feeling really dizzy.
LARRY
Whoa. Sit down. Sit down.

He guides her carefully back into the chair.

Brooke looks up from her phone and freezes at the worry on Larry’s face.

BROOKE
Mom? What’s wrong?
BETHANY
I don’t know.

She draws a shaky breath. Her eyelids grow heavy.

LARRY
Bethany, look at me.

Bethany forces her eyes open.

LARRY
Are you okay?

She doesn’t answer. Her head tips suddenly to the side.

LARRY
Bethany!

He steadies her by the shoulders.

LARRY
Bethany! Wake up!

Brooke leaps from the couch and rushes to them.

BROOKE
Mom!

Larry eases Bethany back against the chair. She is completely unconscious.

Larry looks terrified.

LARRY
Bethany?

Silence.

LARRY
Brooke, hurry! Go get some water!
BROOKE
Okay!

Brooke races toward the kitchen.

Larry stays at Bethany’s side, gripping her hand.

LARRY
Come on, Bethany. You have to wake up.

Brooke returns with a glass of water.

BROOKE
Here!

Larry holds the glass near Bethany, but she does not stir.

BROOKE
She’s not waking up.
LARRY
I know.

He reaches for his phone.

Larry listens carefully and gives the address.

Brooke sits beside her mother and gently takes her hand.

BROOKE
Mom, please wake up.
LARRY
They’re coming.
BROOKE
Is she going to be okay?
LARRY
The ambulance is coming. They’re going to help her.

Larry kneels beside Bethany once more.

LARRY
Bethany, just hang on. Please.

A distant siren rises outside.
