SCENE 1 — CANDACE’S OFFICE — AFTERNOON

The office is quiet and professional. Papers are spread across the desk as Liz sits across from Candace, carefully reviewing the rental information.

CANDACE

So, you’re seriously thinking about renting this office?

LIZ

Yes. I’ve been looking for a place where I can build something of my own. This location feels perfect.

CANDACE

Then you came to the right person. I can explain everything—the rent, the lease, and what you’ll need before you move in.

Candace slides a folder across the desk. Liz opens it and begins reading through the documents.

LIZ

That’s exactly what I wanted to talk about. I just want to make sure there aren’t any surprises.

CANDACE

Suddenly, the office door opens. Chase walks inside—and immediately stops when he sees Liz.

Candace walks outside, leaving Chase and Liz alone in the office.

LIZ

Yes. Why?

CHASE

I just didn’t expect to see you here.

LIZ

SCENE 4 — CHASE CROSSES THE LINE

Liz, there’s something about you that I can’t ignore.

LIZ

CHASE

Ever since I saw you, I’ve felt like there’s something between us.

LIZ

Chase, you’re imagining things.

Chase moves closer again. Liz raises her hand, making her boundary clear.

LIZ

You need to stop.

CHASE

Okay.

LIZ

I came here for business. That’s it.

CHASE

I know.

LIZ

Then keep it that way.

Chase finally realizes that he has gone too far.

CHASE

SCENE 5 — CANDACE SEES EVERYTHING

CANDACE

Chase immediately steps away from Liz. Candace looks from Chase to Liz, realizing that something serious has happened.

CHASE

Candace, it’s not what you think.

CANDACE

Then tell me what I’m supposed to think.

CHASE

I crossed a line. I admit it.

CANDACE

You knew exactly why she was here. Why would you put her in that position?

CHASE

I made a mistake.

CANDACE

A mistake? You made Liz uncomfortable.

CHASE

Liz, I’m sorry.

LIZ

I appreciate the apology, but I need some space.

Liz picks up her folder. Candace immediately realizes that Liz may no longer feel comfortable doing business there.

SCENE 6 — THE CONFRONTATION

CANDACE

Liz, you don’t have to explain anything. I understand what I saw.

LIZ

I really was only here about the office. I didn’t come here for this.

CANDACE

I believe you.

Candace turns toward Chase. Her expression becomes serious.

CANDACE

You made your own decision, Chase.

CHASE

I know. I shouldn’t have let things get that far.

CANDACE

Then you need to understand that your actions have consequences.

CHASE

You’re right.

Liz watches the confrontation quietly, realizing that her simple office visit has turned into something much bigger.

SCENE 7 — LIZ MAKES A DECISION

LIZ

I don’t want to be the reason you two fight.

CANDACE

This isn’t your fault, Liz.

Liz looks down at the rental documents in her hands. She is no longer sure whether she wants the office.

Liz, do you still want the office?

Liz walks out and closes the door behind her.

You almost destroyed Liz’s trust, and you put me in a position where I had to walk in and see something I never expected.

CHASE

I understand.

CANDACE
