Bethany Begs Larry To Send Brooke To The Hospital
Bethany Begs Larry To Send Brooke To The Hospital — But Larry Says NO!
The phone rang just after midnight. Bethany was alone in her hospital room, and when Larry answered, he immediately knew something was wrong. But what she asked him to do next would turn a simple family disagreement into an emotional battle nobody expected.

The Midnight Call

Larry was sitting quietly at home when his phone suddenly started ringing. He looked at the screen and saw Bethany’s name. He knew she was still in the hospital, so he answered immediately.

“Bethany? Are you okay?”

There was a long silence on the other end. When Bethany finally spoke, her voice was softer than usual.

“Larry, I don’t need an ambulance. I don’t need anything like that. I just… I don’t want to be alone tonight.”

Larry leaned forward. He could hear the quiet hospital sounds behind her.

“I’ll come see you tomorrow morning.”

Bethany took a breath.

“I don’t want you to come alone. I want you to send Brooke.”

Larry Says No

Larry immediately became uncomfortable. He looked toward the hallway, as if Brooke might somehow hear the conversation from another room.

“Brooke? Bethany, it’s late. Why would I send her to the hospital right now?”

Bethany tried to explain that she simply wanted someone from the family beside her. She missed Brooke. She wanted to talk, laugh a little, and forget for a few hours that she was stuck inside a hospital room.

“She’s family, Larry. I just want her here with me.”

Larry’s voice became firm.

“I visit you when I can. That should be enough. Brooke doesn’t need to be running back and forth to the hospital.”

Bethany’s expression changed. She wasn’t expecting that answer.

The Argument Gets Personal

Bethany reminded Larry that Brooke was old enough to make her own decisions and that spending time with her aunt was not going to hurt anybody.

“Larry, you’re acting like I’m asking you to send her across the country. She’s nearby. She can sit with me for a few hours.”

Larry shook his head.

“That’s not the point. Brooke has already been getting rebellious. Every time somebody gives her another opinion, she thinks she knows everything.”

That sentence hit Bethany hard.

“So now you’re blaming me for Brooke?”

Larry insisted that was not what he meant. But Bethany wasn’t listening anymore. She told him she had never encouraged Brooke to disrespect him or make bad choices.

“Maybe the problem isn’t Brooke, Larry. Maybe you’re so busy trying to control everything that you don’t realize she’s growing up.”

Brooke Hears Something

Meanwhile, Brooke was sitting in the living room. She wasn’t trying to listen to Larry’s conversation, but his raised voice caught her attention.

She couldn’t hear every word. Then she heard her name.

Brooke slowly stood up and walked toward the hallway. Larry noticed her before she reached the room.

“Brooke, go back to the living room.”

Brooke stopped.

“Was Aunt Bethany asking for me?”

Larry didn’t answer immediately. That silence told Brooke everything she needed to know.

“She was, wasn’t she?”

Larry finally admitted it.

“Yes. But you’re not going.”

The Decision

Brooke stared at him in disbelief. She wasn’t angry because Larry had told her no. She was hurt because Bethany was lying alone in a hospital room and had specifically asked for her.

“Dad, if she needs me, why can’t I go?”

Larry had no easy answer.

At that exact moment, his phone rang again. It was Bethany.

“Put Brooke on the phone.”

Larry hesitated. Brooke looked directly at him.

Finally, he handed her the phone.

“Brooke… I don’t need you to fix anything. I just need you to come sit beside me for a little while.”

Brooke’s eyes filled with emotion.

“I’ll come, Aunt Bethany.”

Larry closed his eyes. He knew the argument was no longer about whether Brooke should visit the hospital. It had become about whether he was listening to his family at all.

The Unexpected Cliffhanger

Brooke grabbed her jacket and prepared to leave. But before she walked out, Bethany suddenly told her something that made Brooke stop.

“Brooke, when you get here, there’s something important I need to tell you. And I don’t want Larry hearing it until I’m ready.”

Brooke looked back at Larry.

Larry noticed her expression and immediately became suspicious.

“What did she just tell you?”

Brooke said nothing.

She simply picked up her bag, walked toward the door, and left Larry standing there with one question running through his mind:

“What exactly is Bethany planning to tell Brooke?”

And for the first time that night, Larry realized he might have made a mistake by saying no.
