Three days earlier, everything had looked perfect.
Dave and Amber were sitting together at home, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
Dave: “Amber, you make my life peaceful.”
Amber smiled.
Amber: “Peaceful? You sure about that?”
Dave laughed.
Dave: “Okay, maybe not peaceful all the time. But you know what I mean.”
Amber rested her head against him.

Dave’s ex, Evelyn, had recently come back into his life.
At first, Dave convinced himself that her calls meant nothing. But he kept answering her, kept talking to her, and kept hiding those conversations from Amber.
One evening, Dave’s phone started ringing.

Dave forced a smile.
Dave: “I just don’t want you worrying about something that doesn’t matter.”
Amber nodded slowly.
Amber: “Then make sure it stays something that doesn’t matter.”
Amber Suddenly Gets Sick
A few days later, Amber woke up feeling weak and dizzy.
Dave: “Amber, what’s wrong?”
Amber: “I don’t know. I just feel really weird.”
She tried to stand but became unsteady.
Dave immediately caught her.
Dave: “We’re going to the hospital.”
Amber: “Dave, I don’t think it’s necessary.”
Dave: “I’m not taking any chances.”
Dave rushed Amber to the hospital.
Doctors quickly took her inside and began running tests.
Dave stayed beside her, holding her hand.
Dave: “I’m right here.”
Amber: “You’re scared.”
Dave: “Yeah. I am.”
Amber: “Why?”
Dave: “Because I love you.”

After several tests, the doctor returned with a smile.
Doctor: “Amber, I have some good news.”
Amber looked confused.
Amber: “Good news?”
Doctor: “You’re pregnant.”
Everything went silent.
Dave stared at the doctor in complete shock.
Dave: “What?”
The doctor smiled.
Doctor: “Amber is pregnant.”
Amber immediately looked at Dave.
Dave could barely believe what he had heard.
Dave: “I’m going to be a father?”
The doctor nodded.
Dave’s face filled with happiness.
Dave: “This is the best news I’ve ever heard.”
Amber started crying, and Dave carefully hugged her.
Dave: “I love you.”

While holding Amber, Dave suddenly remembered Evelyn.

Dave: “Yes.”

Amber: “How?”
Dave: “When the doctor said you’re pregnant, I realized exactly what I could lose.”
Dave: “I don’t want Evelyn. I don’t want secret conversations. I don’t want any other woman. I want you and our family.”
Dave took out his phone.
He opened Evelyn’s contact and ended their communication for good.
Dave: “No more secrets.”
Amber looked at him.
Amber: “You better mean that.”
Dave: “I do.”
The Message That Changed Everything
Dave placed his phone on the table.
For the first time in days, he felt like he could finally breathe.
But suddenly, his phone vibrated.
Dave looked down.
A message had appeared from an unknown number.
The message contained only one sentence:
“You really think Evelyn is the only secret you have?”
Dave’s face went pale.
Amber noticed immediately.
