BROOKE VS. CHARLOTTE
THE SLAP THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
A Dramatic Cinematic Screenplay
SCENE 1: BETHANY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — EVENING
The living room is quiet. Bethany is sitting on the sofa when Charlotte walks in. Charlotte looks serious and concerned. She approaches Bethany and takes a seat nearby.
CHARLOTTE
“Bethany, you know that Sharra’s mother escaped from the police station. I think we should hand her over to the police before this situation creates a bigger problem for you.”
Bethany looks at Charlotte with concern. She doesn’t immediately respond.
BETHANY
“I understand what you’re saying, Charlotte… but this is a very complicated situation.”
CHARLOTTE
“I know it’s complicated. But if the police find out that you knew where she was and didn’t say anything, you could get into serious trouble.”
BETHANY
“I just don’t know what the right thing to do is.”
SCENE 2: BROOKE OVERHEARS THE CONVERSATION
Before Bethany can answer, footsteps are heard from the hallway. Brooke enters the room. She stops when she hears Charlotte talking about her grandmother. Her expression immediately changes.
BROOKE
“What did you just say?”
Charlotte turns around, surprised to see Brooke standing behind her.
CHARLOTTE
“Brooke, I was just talking to Bethany.”
BROOKE
“I heard everything. You were talking about my grandmother. How dare you talk about my grandmother like that?”
Charlotte crosses her arms. Brooke takes a step forward, her anger growing.
CHARLOTTE
“What exactly did I say that was wrong? Your grandmother escaped from jail. That is a serious matter.”
BROOKE
“You don’t know anything about my family.”
CHARLOTTE
“I know enough to understand that escaping from jail isn’t something that can simply be ignored.”
SCENE 3: THE ARGUMENT GETS OUT OF CONTROL
Brooke clenches her fists. Bethany looks nervously between the two women, realizing that the argument is getting worse.
BROOKE
“She is my grandmother. You have no right to speak about her like she’s some criminal who means nothing to us.”
CHARLOTTE
“I never said she means nothing to you. I’m saying that the law still matters.”
BETHANY
“Please, both of you. Let’s talk about this calmly.”
Brooke turns toward Bethany for a moment before looking back at Charlotte.
BROOKE
“You always think you’re right, don’t you? You need to stay out of my family’s business.”
CHARLOTTE
“And you need to stop acting as if you can threaten people whenever you don’t like what they say.”
Brooke points toward the door. Her voice becomes louder.
BROOKE
“I said leave!”
CHARLOTTE
“You don’t get to order me around.”
Bethany steps between them, desperately trying to calm the situation.
BETHANY
“Enough! Please! This isn’t helping anyone.”
SCENE 4: THE SHOCKING SLAP
The room falls silent for a moment. Brooke is still furious, and Charlotte has finally lost her patience.
BROOKE
“Charlotte, you’ve said enough. You insulted my grandmother, and now you’re standing here judging my family.”
CHARLOTTE
“And you’ve been disrespecting me since I walked through that door.”
Brooke scoffs and delivers one final remark.
BROOKE
“Maybe you deserve it.”
SLAP!
Charlotte raises her hand and slaps Brooke across the face. The sound echoes through the room. Brooke freezes. Bethany stands completely shocked. Even Charlotte looks stunned by what she has just done.
BROOKE
“You… slapped me?”
CHARLOTTE
“You crossed the line.”
Brooke slowly raises her hand to her cheek. Her eyes fill with tears. She looks at Charlotte with disbelief before her expression changes from shock to anger.
BROOKE
“How dare you put your hands on me?”
CHARLOTTE
“How dare you disrespect me and threaten me?”
SCENE 5: A FRIENDSHIP ON THE EDGE
Bethany immediately moves closer to Brooke. She looks worried as the confrontation threatens to turn physical.
BETHANY
“Brooke, please. Just calm down.”
Brooke gently pushes Bethany’s hand away.
BROOKE
“No, Bethany. She just slapped me.”
BETHANY
“Charlotte, you shouldn’t have done that.”
CHARLOTTE
“She pushed me too far.”
Brooke wipes the tears from her eyes and looks directly at Charlotte. Her voice is quiet now, but filled with anger.
BROOKE
“You slapped me… now you’re going to pay for it.”
Brooke takes one step toward Charlotte. Bethany immediately steps between them.
BETHANY
“Enough! Both of you, stop! This is not going any further!”
BROOKE
“Move, Bethany.”
BETHANY
“No. I’m not letting this turn into something worse.”
Brooke looks at Charlotte over Bethany’s shoulder. Charlotte refuses to back down.
BROOKE
“This isn’t over.”
CHARLOTTE
“I’m not afraid of you.”
Bethany closes her eyes for a moment, realizing how badly everything has escalated.
SCENE 6: THE FINAL WARNING
Brooke takes a deep breath. She looks hurt, angry, and betrayed. Slowly, she turns away from Charlotte.
BROOKE
“I thought you were my friend.”
Charlotte’s expression softens for a brief moment, but she says nothing.
Brooke walks toward the hallway. Before leaving, she turns back one last time.
BROOKE
“You’ll regret what you did.”
Brooke walks away. Bethany watches her disappear down the hallway. Then she turns toward Charlotte.
BETHANY
“Charlotte… what have you done?”
Charlotte remains silent. The room feels completely different now. A friendship has been damaged, trust has been broken, and the conflict over Brooke’s grandmother has only just begun.
