Omni Discovers That Amber Isn’t Home

The house is unusually quiet. Dave sits on the living-room sofa, checking documents on his phone. Omni, his assistant, finishes her daily duties and notices that Amber still hasn’t returned. She has hidden her feelings for a long time, and today she believes she finally has her chance.

OMNI Dave, are you busy right now?

DAVE Not really. Is there something you need?

OMNI It’s not about work. There’s something personal I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. I have feelings for you, Dave, and I can’t keep pretending I don’t.

Dave freezes, stunned by the unexpected confession.

Omni Confesses Her Feelings

Dave slowly stands, trying to tell whether she is serious.

DAVE Omni, you work for me. I never expected this. And you know I’m with Amber.

OMNI But are you really happy with her, Dave?

DAVE That’s between Amber and me. You shouldn’t put yourself in the middle of it.

Omni’s smile fades, yet she gathers her courage.

Dave stares at her in disbelief.

Omni Makes an Unexpected Proposal

The air turns tense. Omni pulls a small, neatly wrapped gift from her handbag, her fingers trembling, and sets it on the table.

OMNI I wanted today to be special. I want more than to be the person who handles your schedule. I want you to see me as someone who could stand beside you.

DAVE I never promised you anything beyond your job.

OMNI If Amber weren’t in your life, would you consider being with me?

Dave’s silence feels like hope to her. She reaches for his hand, but he gently pulls away. Before she can answer, the front door opens.

Amber Walks In and Catches Them

Amber steps inside and finds Omni standing close to Dave, a gift on the table and emotion hanging in the air.

AMBER What is going on here? Why is Omni so close to you, and why does she look like she’s about to cry?

DAVE Amber, please calm down. Nothing has happened.

AMBER And what is that? Omni, I asked you a question. What were you doing with Dave?

OMNI I was telling him how I feel.

Amber goes silent. Then her anger erupts.

Amber Confronts Omni

AMBER You were telling him how you feel? Are you serious? Your only worry is getting caught?

OMNI I have feelings too. I can’t always control them.

AMBER Having feelings is one thing. Interfering in someone’s relationship is completely different!

Dave steps between them. “I didn’t encourage her,” he says. “I told her it was inappropriate.”

AMBER Know your limits, Omni. You were hired to do a job, not to come into this house and take my place.

Omni looks away, embarrassed and frustrated.

Dave Is Forced to Make His Position Clear

DAVE Omni, we need to maintain professional boundaries. I appreciate your honesty, but I never gave you a reason to believe we’d be together.

OMNI So you’re choosing Amber?

DAVE I won’t decide about my relationship because someone put me on the spot, and I won’t encourage something that hurts the people involved.

AMBER Are we supposed to pretend this never happened?

DAVE No. We need clear boundaries and a plan for moving forward professionally.

Omni says, “I understand,” but her voice suggests she isn’t ready to let go.

An Unexpected Warning

AMBER Dave, we need a serious conversation later. Just the two of us.

Dave hands the gift back to Omni and tells her they’ll discuss work tomorrow.

OMNI I never wanted things to end like this.

DAVE Then you should have thought about the consequences before making your proposal.

At the door she turns back.

OMNI You may think this is over, but I still believe you don’t know everything about your relationship with Amber.

DAVE What are you talking about?

OMNI Nothing. Maybe you’ll understand someday.

She leaves. Upstairs, Amber has heard it all, and her anger gives way to suspicion.

AMBER What does Omni know that I don’t?

The confrontation may be over, but the questions have only just begun.
