OMNI KISSES DAVE OUT OF NOWHERE — AND AMBER CATCHES THEM IN THE ACT!
A CINEMATIC DRAMA SCREENPLAY
FADE IN: — INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – AFTERNOON
The house is quiet. DAVE sits comfortably on the couch, scrolling through his phone. Suddenly, a knock comes at the door. Dave looks up and gets up to answer it.
DAVE
Who is it?
OMNI (O.S.)
It’s me, Omni. Can I come in?
Dave opens the door to find OMNI standing outside with a confident but nervous smile.
DAVE
Oh, hey, Omni. What’s going on?
OMNI
Nothing much. I was just in the neighborhood, and I thought I’d stop by to see you.
DAVE
Okay. Come on in.
Omni sits on the couch. Dave returns to his spot and picks up his phone again. She watches him silently, determined to say what she came to say.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER
OMNI
Dave, can I tell you something?
DAVE
Yeah, sure. What’s up?
Omni takes a deep breath. Dave finally looks at her.
OMNI
I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while, but I didn’t know how you would react.
DAVE
Tell me what?
OMNI
I really like you, Dave. There’s something about you that I can’t explain. I enjoy being around you, talking to you, and spending time with you.
Dave pauses, unsure how to respond. He picks up his phone again, and disappointment flickers across Omni’s face.
DAVE
Oh, wow. I wasn’t expecting that. I hear you, Omni. I appreciate you telling me that.
OMNI
That’s it? That’s all you’re going to say? Maybe you could at least look at me when I’m talking to you.
DAVE
I’m listening. I just wasn’t expecting you to come over here and tell me that you have feelings for me.
OMNI
Well, now you know.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
A brief silence settles between them. Omni moves closer to Dave on the couch. He notices and turns toward her.
DAVE
Omni, what’s going on?
OMNI
Nothing. I just want to be close to you.
DAVE
I appreciate you being honest with me, but I don’t want you to misunderstand anything. I haven’t even had time to process it yet.
OMNI
So you’re telling me you don’t like me?
DAVE
I’m telling you that I don’t know what to say right now.
Omni searches his face for a sign of affection. Dave remains quiet. Suddenly, she leans forward and kisses him. Dave’s eyes widen in surprise. The kiss lasts only a moment before he pulls back.
DAVE
Omni! What are you doing? You can’t just kiss me without asking me first!
OMNI
I’m sorry. I just wanted you to know how I feel. I wasn’t thinking.
DAVE
You should have talked to me instead of doing that. You can’t decide how I feel for me.
Neither of them notices AMBER arriving near the entrance. She sees enough to misunderstand everything.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – FRONT ENTRANCE – SAME TIME
Amber stands frozen near the doorway. She had come to see Dave, expecting an ordinary visit. Instead, she has just seen Omni kiss him.
AMBER
What the hell?
Dave turns toward the entrance. His face changes when he sees Amber. Omni quickly moves away from him.
DAVE
Amber?
OMNI
Amber, wait. It’s not what you think!
AMBER
Really? Because it looked pretty clear to me! I walked in here, and I saw the two of you kissing!
DAVE
She kissed me out of nowhere. I wasn’t expecting it.
AMBER
Oh, so now you’re telling me she just jumped on you?
DAVE
I’m telling you exactly what happened!
OMNI
Amber, he’s telling the truth. I was the one who kissed him. I know I shouldn’t have done it like that. I just wanted to tell him how I felt.
AMBER
You wanted to tell him how you felt, so you decided to kiss him without even asking?
OMNI
I made a mistake.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER
The atmosphere becomes increasingly tense. Omni stands near the couch while Dave remains beside Amber. Nobody seems willing to break the silence.
OMNI
Amber, I owe you an apology.
AMBER
You owe Dave an apology because you crossed a line.
OMNI
You’re right. I should have respected his space.
DAVE
I appreciated you being honest with me. But that didn’t mean you could assume I wanted the same thing.
OMNI
I understand that now. I thought I might have a chance with you. I thought maybe you would feel something if I made the first move.
DAVE
If you have feelings for somebody, you talk to them. You don’t force a moment and expect them to respond the way you want.
OMNI
I’m sorry, Dave. I really am.
DAVE
I accept your apology, but I need you to understand that what happened wasn’t okay.
AMBER
And what happens now?
DAVE
Nothing happens. Omni came here to talk to me. She told me she liked me, and then she kissed me unexpectedly. That’s the truth.
AMBER
And you expect me to forget what I saw?
DAVE
No. I’m asking you to hear me out before you decide what it means.
Amber looks into Dave’s eyes, still shaken by what she witnessed. Then she turns toward Omni.
AMBER
If you really care about somebody, you should respect their choices. You can’t just do whatever you want because you have feelings for them.
OMNI
I know. I got carried away, and I shouldn’t have.
AMBER
Well, next time, think before you act.
OMNI
I will.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – LATER
Amber moves toward the door, needing a moment to herself. Dave follows her, worried she will leave believing the worst.
DAVE
Amber, please don’t leave like this.
AMBER
I need a minute, Dave. This is a lot to take in.
DAVE
I get that. But I don’t want you walking away thinking I was hiding something from you.
AMBER
Then tell me something. If I hadn’t walked in when I did, would you have told me about this?
DAVE
It happened seconds before you came in. I was still trying to understand what had just happened myself.
AMBER
You better be telling me the truth.
DAVE
I am. I have no reason to lie to you.
AMBER
I just don’t like being put in situations like this.
DAVE
Neither do I. I’m sorry this happened. I never wanted you to feel disrespected.
AMBER
I need some time to think.
DAVE
Okay. I’ll give you that time.
Amber looks back at Omni one last time, then opens the door and walks outside. Dave watches her leave, his face filled with frustration.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
The door closes. Silence returns to the house. Dave turns toward Omni, his expression serious.
DAVE
You need to understand something. I don’t want this situation happening again.
OMNI
It won’t. I promise.
DAVE
I respect you, Omni. But I need you to respect me too.
OMNI
I will.
Omni picks up her belongings and walks toward the entrance. Before leaving, she stops and looks back at him.
OMNI
I really do like you, Dave. But I understand that I can’t make you feel the same way.
DAVE
That’s something you have to accept.
Omni leaves. Dave remains standing in the living room, replaying everything that happened. Amber has walked away hurt and confused, Omni has left with her feelings unresolved, and Dave is left dealing with the consequences of a moment he never saw coming.
DAVE
What a mess…
He rubs his face and lets out a long sigh. Outside, Amber is already wondering whether Dave was truly innocent—or whether there is something about their relationship she still doesn’t understand. One unexpected kiss has raised questions nobody is ready to answer.
FADE OUT.
