THE NIGHT BETHANY WALKED AWAY
LARRY THOUGHT HE KNEW HIS WIFE.
BUT ONE HIDDEN LETTER
WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING.
SCENE 1 — THE EMPTY BED
INT. LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — EARLY MORNING
Larry opened his eyes and reached across the bed. Bethany’s side was empty. At first, he thought she was downstairs, but the untouched pillow and folded blanket made him uneasy.
Bethany?
Bethany, you up?
Come on, pick up the phone.
Her phone went unanswered. Her shoes were missing, and her car was gone. Larry stood frozen, realizing that Bethany had left in the middle of the night without telling him where she was going.
SCENE 2 — WHERE IS BETHANY?
INT. LIVING ROOM — MOMENTS LATER
Brooke entered the living room and found Larry pacing with his phone. He immediately asked whether she had seen Bethany leave.
Have you seen Bethany?
Her car is gone.
Did you see her leave last night?
Brooke admitted that Bethany had seemed upset. Then she confronted Larry about the distance he had created in his marriage.
She tried to talk to you for weeks.
She wanted you to listen.
But you kept putting her feelings aside.
How did you not see this coming?
SCENE 3 — THE QUESTIONS HE COULDN’T ANSWER
INT. KITCHEN — CONTINUOUS
Larry remembered Bethany trying to talk to him at the kitchen table. He had barely looked up from his phone and promised they would talk later. That conversation never happened.
I wasn’t trying to hurt her.
I had things going on.
I thought she understood.
I thought she knew I cared.
Not trying to hurt someone isn’t enough.
You have to show them they matter.
She needed your attention, Larry.
She needed to feel loved.
SCENE 4 — THE WOMAN WHO KEPT TRYING
INT. LIVING ROOM — LATER THAT MORNING
Brooke reminded Larry about the anniversary dinner Bethany had carefully prepared. He had arrived late and barely acknowledged her effort.
She kept making room for your problems.
She understood your busy schedule.
But when did you make room for her?
You weren’t paying attention.
Larry finally realized he had mistaken Bethany’s patience for happiness and her forgiveness for proof that nothing was wrong.
SCENE 5 — THE MESSAGE HE NEVER SENT
INT. LIVING ROOM — MID-MORNING
Larry scrolled through old messages. Bethany had told him she missed him even when they lived under the same roof. He had replied that he was busy and they would talk later.
She kept giving me chances.
I kept promising to do better.
I thought there would be another day.
What have I done?
He finally sent her a heartfelt apology, asking her to call when she could. The screen remained silent.
SCENE 6 — A HOUSE FULL OF MEMORIES
INT. BEDROOM — LATE MORNING
Larry returned to the bedroom and noticed that Bethany had left many belongings behind. On the nightstand stood an old photograph of them smiling together.
We were supposed to be a team.
We had so many plans together.
I’m sorry, Bethany.
I should have shown you when you were here.
For the first time, he understood that regret could not replace the love and attention she had needed while she was still beside him.
SCENE 7 — BROOKE’S FINAL WARNING
INT. LIVING ROOM — AFTERNOON
Larry had called everyone he could think of, but nobody had heard from Bethany. Brooke warned him not to turn their next conversation into another argument.
Ask her how she’s feeling.
Let her speak without interruption.
Stop defending every mistake.
Prove you’re willing to change.
Larry feared that Bethany might never return. Brooke reminded him that he could not force someone to keep fighting for a relationship alone.
SCENE 8 — THE CALL
INT. LIVING ROOM — LATE AFTERNOON
Suddenly, Larry’s phone rang. Bethany’s name appeared on the screen. He answered immediately, desperate to know whether she was safe.
I felt lonely in my own marriage.
I wanted to feel like I mattered.
I needed you to understand me then.
I can’t keep living on promises.
Larry apologized and asked whether there was still a chance for them.
I need time, Larry.
I can’t make that decision right now.
I don’t know anymore.
Please let me think.
The call ended. Bethany was safe, but Larry still had no idea whether she would ever come home.
SCENE 9 — THE MESSAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
INT. LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — EVENING
Near midnight, Larry received a message from an unknown number. Its words made his heart race.
START LOOKING AT WHAT SHE LEFT BEHIND.
CHECK THE DRAWER IN YOUR BEDROOM.
THE ONE YOU NEVER OPEN.
Larry rushed upstairs and opened the drawer. Inside were old photographs, envelopes, and a folded letter bearing his name.
Larry, if you’re reading this,
I’ve finally done what I feared
for a very long time.
You need to know the truth.
As Larry read the final paragraph, his face went pale. Brooke appeared in the doorway, but her reaction raised even more questions.
Brooke, did you know about this?
What has Bethany been hiding?
Tell me the truth!
Did you know before she left?
Brooke stared at the letter, unable to answer. Then Larry’s phone rang again. Bethany was calling.
This time, Larry looked at Brooke before answering. Suddenly, he wasn’t sure Bethany was the only person in the house who had been keeping secrets.
