Slowly, the door opens. Evelyn steps inside, gripping a pillow tightly. Her eyes burn with anger as she looks at Amber.

EVELYN (whispering): You took everything from me, Amber. You made me feel like I was nothing in this house.

She takes a cautious step toward the bed. Amber shifts in her sleep but does not wake.

EVELYN: Tonight, everything ends.

Evelyn raises the pillow and begins lowering it toward Amber’s face. Suddenly, Dave opens his eyes and sees a shadow leaning over his wife.

Unable to recognize Evelyn in the darkness, Dave jumps out of bed and throws a hard punch. Evelyn stumbles backward, drops the pillow, and crashes onto the floor.

EVELYN (screaming): Ah! Dave! What are you doing?

Dave switches on the bedside lamp. Amber wakes in panic and sees Evelyn lying beside the bed.

DAVE (furious): Evelyn? What were you doing in our bedroom? Were you trying to kill Amber?

EVELYN: Dave, please! You don’t understand. Let me explain!

DAVE: I woke up and found you standing over my wife with a pillow in your hands!

Amber pulls the blanket around herself, trembling with fear.

AMBER: You brought her into our home. You trusted her. And now she’s trying to kill me while I’m sleeping!

Evelyn slowly gets to her feet. Fear turns into humiliation and rage.

INT. DOWNSTAIRS HALLWAY — SAME NIGHT

Evelyn listens outside the bedroom before walking into the living room. Her cheek hurts, but the humiliation hurts more.

Dave appears at the bottom of the staircase.

Evelyn agrees to leave, then stops halfway up the stairs.

EVELYN: When Amber tells you everything is fine, ask her what happened the night she disappeared for three hours and told you she was at home.

Dave freezes. He remembers that night and begins wondering whether Amber ever told him the truth.

INT. BEDROOM — LATER THAT NIGHT

Dave returns and notices Amber quickly putting her phone down.

DAVE: Who were you texting?

AMBER: Nobody. I was just checking my messages.

DAVE: Evelyn mentioned a night when you disappeared for three hours. She said you told me you were home, but you weren’t.

Amber goes completely still.

DAVE: Do you remember that night?

AMBER: Of course I remember.

DAVE: Then tell me where you were.

Amber cannot answer immediately. Dave asks why she is hesitating.

AMBER: Why are you listening to Evelyn after what she just did?

DAVE: I’m not defending her. She attacked you, but that doesn’t mean I should ignore everything she says.

AMBER: I’m frightened because she tried to kill me!

DAVE: Then why can’t you answer one simple question?

Amber suddenly blurts out that she was not cheating on him. Dave looks at her sharply.

Dave knocks and enters.

Evelyn shows Dave the photograph. He stares at the unknown man.

EVELYN: I’m saying you should hear what she promised him.
