An Emotional Marriage Drama

BETHANY’S DIVORCE DECISION SHOCKS LARRY AND HER FATHER

Love • Betrayal • Broken Trust • A New Beginning

Scene 01Bethany Makes Her Final Decision

The house is unusually quiet. Bethany stands beside the dining table, holding the divorce papers. Her eyes are filled with disappointment, but her expression reveals determination.

After trying repeatedly to save her marriage, she finally realizes that she cannot continue living with broken trust.

BETHANY

“I gave you so many chances, Larry. I tried to save our marriage because I believed we could still fix things. But you kept giving me reasons to doubt you.”

BETHANY

“I cannot keep fighting for a relationship when I am the only one trying to make it work. This time, I am choosing myself.”

She places the papers inside her handbag, picks up her keys, and leaves to confront Larry.

Scene 02The Divorce Papers

Early evening. Larry sits comfortably in the living room, looking at his phone. He has no idea that Bethany is about to change their lives forever.

The front door opens. Bethany walks inside with a serious expression.

LARRY

“Bethany? Where have you been? We need to talk about everything that has happened between us.”

BETHANY

“You are right, Larry. We do need to talk. But this time, I am not here to argue with you or listen to another explanation.”

Larry puts his phone down, confused by her tone. Bethany opens her handbag and places the divorce papers on the table.

BETHANY

“Sign these papers, Larry. I want a divorce. I cannot live with you anymore.”

Larry stares at the documents. His expression changes instantly. He had expected another argument, not a final decision.

LARRY

“Divorce papers? Bethany, are you serious right now?”

BETHANY

“I have never been more serious about anything in my life.”

LARRY

“You actually went ahead and prepared these?”

BETHANY

“Yes, I did. I have thought about this decision carefully, and I am not changing my mind.”

Scene 03The Tables Turn

Larry stands up and begins pacing around the living room. He had already considered divorcing Bethany himself, but he never expected her to make the first move.

LARRY

“So, this is what you have decided? After everything we have been through, you are just going to end our marriage like this?”

BETHANY

“Like this? Larry, you are talking as if I woke up one morning and suddenly decided to leave you.”

BETHANY

“I tried to understand you. I tried to believe you. When you told me you were going to Miami, I trusted you. But you went to Puerto Rico instead, and you did not tell me the truth.”

Larry opens his mouth to respond, but he cannot find the right words.

BETHANY

“You made your choices without thinking about how they would affect me. Now I am making a choice for myself.”

LARRY

“You do not understand, Bethany. I had my reasons for what I did.”

BETHANY

“Then you should have told me the truth instead of allowing me to discover it myself.”

BETHANY

“I am tired of hearing about your reasons. Every explanation comes too late, after the damage has already been done.”

Larry looks down at the papers. The balance of power in their relationship has changed, and he does not know how to respond.

LARRY

“I never thought you would actually do this.”

BETHANY

“That is the problem, Larry. You never thought I would reach my limit. You thought I would always stay, no matter how much you hurt me.”

BETHANY

“I am not asking you to understand my decision. I am asking you to respect it.”

Scene 04Larry Tries to Change Her Mind

Larry picks up the divorce papers again. Frustration replaces his initial shock as he realizes he may no longer control the future of their marriage.

LARRY

“What happens if I refuse to sign these papers?”

BETHANY

“Then we will have to deal with the situation through the proper legal process. But refusing to sign will not change how I feel about this marriage.”

LARRY

“So you have already made up your mind about everything?”

BETHANY

“Yes, Larry. I have.”

BETHANY

“I did not make this decision because I stopped caring overnight. I made it because caring about you was no longer enough to make this relationship healthy for me.”

LARRY

“Bethany, maybe we should take some time and think about this.”

BETHANY

“I have already taken that time. I have cried, thought about our future, and asked myself whether there was anything left worth saving.”

BETHANY

“I wanted us to work, Larry. I really did. But I cannot keep sacrificing my happiness just to keep this marriage alive.”

Bethany turns toward the door. Larry remains beside the table, watching her walk away.

BETHANY

“The papers are right there. When you are ready to deal with this honestly, you know what needs to happen.”

Scene 05Bethany’s Father Discovers the Truth

Later that evening, Bethany’s father sits in his living room when he receives a phone call. The news about Bethany and Larry’s divorce leaves him stunned.

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Wait a minute. Are you telling me that Bethany has decided to divorce Larry?”

He listens carefully. When the news is confirmed, he slowly puts his phone down and walks toward the window.

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Oh, Bethany. I knew things were not right between you and Larry, but I never imagined that matters would reach this point.”

BETHANY’S FATHER

“She must have suffered a great deal to make such a serious decision. My daughter would never walk away from her marriage without thinking about it carefully.”

Concerned about his daughter, he immediately picks up his phone and calls her.

Scene 06A Father’s Emotional Support

Bethany is sitting alone when her phone rings. Seeing her father’s name, she answers immediately.

BETHANY

“Hello, Dad.”

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Bethany, I have just heard what happened between you and Larry. Is it true that you have decided to divorce him?”

BETHANY

“Yes, Dad. I have given this marriage everything I could. But I cannot continue living like this anymore.”

Her father remains silent for a moment, trying to process the news.

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Sweetheart, I am shocked. I always hoped that you and Larry would find a way to resolve your problems. But I do not want you to remain in a relationship that leaves you unhappy.”

BETHANY

“I wanted my marriage to work, Dad. I wanted to believe that Larry and I could build a future together. But after everything that happened, I no longer feel that I can trust him.”

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Listen to me carefully. I do not want you to make this decision out of anger. I want you to be certain that this is what you truly want.”

BETHANY

“I understand, Dad. That is why I took my time before making this decision. I am not doing this to punish Larry. I am doing it because I need to move forward with my life.”

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Then I will respect your decision. You are my daughter, and I want you to be happy. Whatever happens next, you do not have to face everything alone.”

Bethany struggles to hold back her tears. For the first time that evening, she feels that someone truly understands her pain.

BETHANY

“Thank you, Dad. I was afraid you would be disappointed in me.”

BETHANY’S FATHER

“Disappointed in you? Never. A marriage should be built on honesty, trust, and respect. You deserve the chance to find peace in your life.”

Bethany wipes away her tears, feeling stronger because she knows her father will support her.

Scene 07Larry Faces the Consequences

Night falls. Back at Larry’s house, the divorce papers remain on the coffee table. Larry sits alone, staring at them.

He remembers Bethany’s determined expression and her final words. He had once believed that he would decide the future of their marriage himself.

LARRY

“How did everything get to this point?”

He picks up the papers again. For the first time, he begins to understand that Bethany’s patience was never a promise that she would stay forever.

Meanwhile, Bethany sits beside her bedroom window, looking out at the quiet street. Her future is uncertain, but she knows she cannot continue living in a marriage where trust has been damaged.

BETHANY

“I gave this relationship every chance I could. Now it is time for me to move forward.”

Her father’s support gives her strength. Larry, meanwhile, is left wondering whether he has finally lost the woman he once believed would never leave him.

The End… For Now

Bethany has made her decision, Larry is facing the consequences, and her father’s support has given her the courage to begin again.

But will Larry sign the divorce papers, or will he try one last time to save their marriage?
