A CINEMATIC DRAMA SCREENPLAY
FADE IN:
INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – LATE AFTERNOON
The house is filled with tension.
BETHANY stands beside the couch with two large bags at her feet. Her eyes are red from crying, but her expression shows determination. She has spent enough time arguing with Larry and dealing with the problems surrounding their relationship.
Today, she has made up her mind.
She is leaving.
LARRY stands near the doorway, watching her in disbelief. BROOKE sits quietly on the couch, sensing that another confrontation is about to begin.
LARRY
Bethany, are you seriously doing this right now? You're packing your bags and walking out without even trying to talk things through?
Bethany lets out a bitter laugh.
BETHANY
Talk things through? Larry, I'm tired of talking! Every single day, there's another argument, another problem, and another reason for me to feel like I'm losing my mind in this house!
She grabs one of her bags and pulls it toward the front door.
Larry steps forward.
LARRY
You can't just keep running away whenever things get difficult.
Bethany immediately turns toward him.
BETHANY
And you can't keep expecting me to stay somewhere I'm miserable!
Her voice echoes through the living room.
Brooke lowers her eyes, uncomfortable with the argument.
LARRY
So where are you going to go?
Bethany pauses.
She looks at Larry, then at her bags.
BETHANY
Somewhere I can breathe. Somewhere I don't have to wake up every morning wondering what kind of drama is waiting for me.
Larry shakes his head.
LARRY
Bethany, don't make a decision you're going to regret.
BETHANY
I've already regretted staying this long.
The words hit Larry hard.
For a moment, neither of them speaks.
Bethany wipes a tear from her cheek, picks up her second bag, and walks toward the door.
Larry follows her.
LARRY
At least tell me where you're going!
Bethany stops with her hand on the doorknob.
She turns around slowly.
BETHANY
I'm going to Sharra's house.
Larry's expression changes immediately.
LARRY
Sharra's house? Bethany, are you out of your mind?
BETHANY
Maybe I am. But if anybody needs to hear what I have to say, it's her.
LARRY
You know how things are between you two. Going over there with an attitude isn't going to solve anything.
Bethany opens the door.
BETHANY
I'm not going over there to make friends, Larry. I'm going because I'm done letting people think they can disrespect me without consequences.
She walks outside, dragging her bags behind her.
Larry remains in the doorway, watching her leave.
LARRY
Bethany! Don't do anything stupid!
Bethany doesn't turn around.
The door closes behind her.
Larry exhales and rubs his forehead.
Something tells him this situation is about to get much worse.
CUT TO:
EXT. SHARRA’S HOUSE – EARLY EVENING
A car pulls up outside Sharra's house.
Bethany steps out with her bags. She looks toward the front door, her jaw tightening as she remembers every argument and every insult that brought her to this moment.
She places her bags beside the porch.
For a few seconds, she stands still, gathering herself.
Then she marches toward the door and knocks loudly.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
BETHANY
Sharra! Open this door!
Inside the house, SHARRA is sitting in the living room with her BOYFRIEND, who is relaxing on the couch.
They hear the knocking.
Sharra frowns.
SHARRA
Who in the world is banging on my door like that?
Her boyfriend shrugs.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
Maybe you should see who it is.
Sharra gets up, irritated, and walks toward the entrance.
The moment she opens the door, her expression turns cold.
Bethany stands on the porch with her bags beside her.
The two women stare at each other.
Neither smiles.
Neither moves.
SHARRA
What are you doing here?
Bethany folds her arms.
BETHANY
That's a lovely way to greet somebody at your front door.
SHARRA
I didn't invite you here, Bethany.
BETHANY
And I didn't come here for an invitation.
Sharra looks down at the bags.
Her eyebrows rise.
SHARRA
Wait a minute. Are those your bags? Please tell me you didn't come here expecting to stay at my house.
Bethany takes a step forward.
BETHANY
I came here because I have something to say to you, and I'm not leaving until you hear it.
Sharra laughs in disbelief.
SHARRA
You've got some nerve showing up at my house and making demands!
BETHANY
And you've got some nerve acting like you're the only person in this situation who has feelings!
Sharra's smile disappears.
SHARRA
You need to watch your mouth.
BETHANY
Or what?
The challenge hangs between them.
Sharra moves closer to the doorway, blocking Bethany's entrance.
SHARRA
You think you can come into my home and talk to me any kind of way? Not happening!
BETHANY
Then stop giving me reasons to come looking for you!
Sharra's boyfriend hears the argument growing louder and gets up from the couch.
He heads toward the entrance, wondering what is happening.
CUT TO:
EXT. SHARRA’S FRONT PORCH – CONTINUOUS
Sharra steps outside and pulls the door partly closed behind her.
SHARRA
Whatever problems you have with Larry, you need to take them somewhere else. I don't want your drama at my house!
Bethany points toward herself.
BETHANY
My drama? You think I'm standing here with two bags because I'm having a wonderful day?
She gestures toward the luggage.
BETHANY
I just left Larry's house! I'm tired, I'm angry, and I'm tired of everybody acting like I'm the problem while everybody else gets to do whatever they want!
Sharra crosses her arms.
SHARRA
That's between you and Larry. Don't bring it to my doorstep.
BETHANY
You always have something to say when it comes to my life. Now I'm standing right in front of you, and suddenly you don't want to talk?
Sharra rolls her eyes.
SHARRA
Because I don't owe you anything!
Bethany shakes her head.
BETHANY
You know what? That's exactly the problem with you. You say whatever you want, do whatever you want, and then expect everybody to leave you alone when they finally stand up to you.
Sharra's face hardens.
SHARRA
Get off my property.
BETHANY
Not until you listen!
Sharra reaches toward Bethany's arm, trying to push her away from the entrance.
Bethany pulls her arm back.
BETHANY
Don't put your hands on me!
SHARRA
Then get out of my face!
Sharra shoves Bethany.
Bethany stumbles backward, nearly losing her balance.
Her bag falls onto its side.
For a brief second, both women stare at each other in shock.
Then Bethany steps forward angrily.
BETHANY
Did you just push me?
SHARRA
Yes! And I'll do it again if you don't leave!
Bethany moves toward her.
BETHANY
You shouldn't have done that!
Sharra raises her hands defensively, but the argument quickly turns physical.
The women grab at each other, shouting as they struggle on the porch.
One of Bethany's bags gets knocked farther away.
BETHANY
Get off me, Sharra!
SHARRA
You came to MY HOUSE looking for trouble!
BETHANY
You started this!
Their voices fill the quiet street.
Inside, Sharra's boyfriend hears the commotion and rushes toward the door.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
Sharra? What's going on out there?
He reaches the entrance and freezes when he sees the two women fighting.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
Hey! Hey! What the hell is happening?
He immediately runs outside.
CUT TO:
EXT. SHARRA’S FRONT YARD – CONTINUOUS
Sharra and Bethany continue struggling.
Sharra tries to push Bethany away, while Bethany fights to free herself from her grip.
Sharra's boyfriend rushes between them.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
That's enough! Both of you, stop!
Neither woman listens at first.
He grabs Bethany by the arms and carefully pulls her away from Sharra, creating distance between them.
BETHANY
Let me go! She put her hands on me!
SHARRA
Because she came here disrespecting me!
BETHANY
You pushed me first!
Sharra tries to move toward Bethany again.
Her boyfriend quickly turns and holds her back.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
Sharra, stop! I said stop!
He keeps himself between the two women.
Bethany struggles to calm down, breathing heavily as she straightens her clothes.
Her hair is slightly disheveled, and her face is flushed with anger.
Sharra points at her from behind her boyfriend.
SHARRA
Get her away from my house! I don't want to see her here ever again!
Bethany lets out a furious laugh.
BETHANY
Believe me, after this, I have no desire to stand on your porch!
SHARRA
Then why did you come here in the first place?
Bethany opens her mouth to respond, but Sharra's boyfriend raises his hand.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
Both of you need to calm down before somebody gets seriously hurt!
He looks at Bethany.
SHARRA’S BOYFRIEND
And you need to take a step back.
Bethany stares at him, offended.
BETHANY
Are you serious right now? She attacked me, and you're telling ME to st
