THE FEAR RETURNS
Amber stood quietly near the doorway of the broadcast office, watching Dave and Danielle discuss something on a laptop.
Danielle smiled.
Dave smiled back.
It looked innocent.
But to Amber, it felt painfully familiar.
She tightened her grip around her phone and looked away.
She had promised herself she would never allow the past to control her.
But the past had left scars, and those scars were beginning to hurt again.
Amber and Dave had built their lives around their businesses and market-related work. Most of their responsibilities were handled from home, where they worked together and tried to keep their personal and professional lives balanced.
Amber also had another job at the broadcast office with Wayne, while Dave continued handling his own responsibilities.
For a while, everything seemed peaceful.
Until Omni entered their lives.
THE OMNI PROBLEM
Omni had been Dave’s assistant. At first, Amber never had a problem with her. She trusted Dave, trusted their marriage, and believed professional relationships should remain professional.
But slowly, things began changing.
Dave started paying more attention to Omni. He talked about her more often and found excuses to discuss work with her. Even when there was no urgent business, Omni somehow became part of their conversations.
Amber noticed.
And the more she noticed, the more uncomfortable she became.
One night, Amber finally confronted Dave.
That conversation became the beginning of a much bigger problem.
Arguments followed. Trust began disappearing. Every late message from Omni created another question, and every conversation between Dave and Omni made Amber wonder what was really happening.
Their relationship nearly collapsed.
But somehow, after countless arguments, painful conversations, and difficult decisions, Amber and Dave managed to save their marriage.
They promised each other that the same mistake would never happen again.
They promised to communicate.
They promised to protect their relationship.
And for a while, they did.
A NEW BEGINNING
Months later, things finally felt normal again.
Dave and Amber were working together. Their businesses were growing, their home felt peaceful, and the tension that had once filled their relationship seemed to be disappearing.
Then Danielle arrived.
She was hired as Dave’s new assistant.
At first, Amber welcomed her. There was no reason not to. Danielle seemed professional, organized, friendly, and focused on her work.
Dave was pleased with her performance.
Everything seemed completely normal.
But slowly, Amber began noticing small things.
Danielle started spending more time around Dave. She was often helping him with projects. She knew his schedule, his habits, and exactly how he liked things handled.
And Dave seemed increasingly comfortable around her.
One evening, Amber was at home when Dave walked in looking unusually happy.
Amber paused.
But she wasn’t.
Not really.
THE WARNING SIGNS
The next few days only made Amber more suspicious.
Dave started taking calls from Danielle outside the room. Sometimes they laughed over messages. Sometimes Danielle would send Dave something late at night, claiming it was work-related.
Amber didn’t accuse him.
She didn’t want to become the jealous wife again.
She remembered how badly things had gone with Omni.
She didn’t want to destroy their marriage over assumptions.
One afternoon, Amber entered Dave’s office unexpectedly.
Danielle was standing beside him. Both were looking at the same computer screen.
They immediately looked toward Amber.
She turned around and walked away.
Amber stopped.
Amber took a breath.
THE OLD WOUND
Dave stared at her.
Amber’s eyes became emotional.
Dave softened.
For a moment, everything seemed calm again.
But neither of them noticed Danielle standing at the end of the hallway.
She had heard enough.
And her expression was impossible to read.
DANIELLE’S SIDE
Later that evening, Danielle stayed behind at the office.
The building was almost empty.
She looked at her phone.
A message from Dave was still open on the screen.
She stared at it for several seconds.
Then she typed a reply.
Stopped.
Deleted it.
Typed again.
Deleted it again.
Finally, she put the phone down.
She wasn’t sure what she wanted.
Maybe she respected Dave.
Maybe she simply enjoyed working with him.
Or maybe there was something more.
But one thing
