THE DIVORCE PAPERS
A CINEMATIC STORY OF LOVE, MONEY, AND A FINAL DECISION
The room was quiet. Amber sat across from Dave, looking uncertain. Dave watched her closely, sensing her hesitation.
He leaned forward and spoke with confidence.
DAVE“Amber, you don’t have to worry about money anymore. I have plenty of it.”
Amber looked at him silently.
DAVE“Whatever you ask for, I’ll give you. If you need something, just tell me. You don’t have to depend on Anthony for anything.”
Amber lowered her eyes, thinking about everything that had happened between her and Anthony.
DAVE“Just get a divorce from Anthony.”
Amber slowly looked up.
DAVE“And if Anthony refuses to give you fifty percent after the divorce, then let it go. Don’t fight with him over money. You just get the divorce.”
Amber remained silent for a moment. For the first time, she seemed completely certain about her decision.
AMBER“You’re right. I don’t need to beg Anthony for anything.”
Dave gave her a reassuring look.
DAVE“Exactly.”
Amber took a deep breath and reached for her phone. Her fingers hovered over Anthony’s name.
After a moment, she pressed CALL.
Anthony was sitting alone when his phone began to ring. He looked at the screen.
AMBER CALLING
After a brief hesitation, he answered.
ANTHONY“Hello?”
AMBER“Anthony, I’m coming to your house.”
ANTHONY“Why?”
AMBER“I’m coming to get a divorce from you.”
Anthony froze.
He wasn’t expecting those words.
ANTHONY“What?”
AMBER“You heard me.”
There was silence between them.
AMBER“I’m coming for the divorce papers.”
ANTHONY“Amber, wait—”
AMBER“If you’re not going to give me fifty percent, then don’t.”
Anthony said nothing.
AMBER“I’m not asking you for anything anymore.”
Anthony’s face showed confusion.
AMBER“I already have plenty of things. Dave has given me a lot. I don’t need anything from you.”
Anthony became completely silent.
A strange feeling rose inside him. He was surprised, but deep down, he felt relieved.
Amber ended the call.
Anthony slowly lowered the phone. A faint smile appeared on his face.
He couldn’t understand why, but part of him felt happy.
Outside, Amber walked toward the car. Dave was waiting beside it.
DAVE“Are you sure?”
AMBER“Yes. I’ve made my decision.”
Amber took a deep breath.
AMBER“I’m not going back.”
Dave nodded.
The car drove through the city. The lights passed across their faces. Neither of them spoke.
The silence felt heavy.
The car stopped outside Anthony’s house.
Amber stepped out. Dave followed her.
Amber looked at the house for a moment. This place held countless memories.
Happy moments. Arguments. Broken promises. Everything they once shared.
She took one final breath.
Dave stood beside her.
DAVE“Let’s go.”
Amber nodded.
They walked toward the entrance.
Anthony heard the sound of a car arriving and walked toward the door.
When he opened it, he stopped.
His eyes immediately fell on Amber. Then on Dave standing beside her.
Anthony’s expression changed. Surprise. Confusion. And something he couldn’t hide — relief.
Amber didn’t say anything.
She simply walked toward him.
Amber reached into her bag.
Anthony watched her carefully.
Amber pulled out the divorce papers.
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then Amber placed the papers directly in front of Anthony.
Anthony looked down. His eyes moved across the first page.
His expression became serious.
He looked back at Amber. Then at Dave.
Dave said nothing. Amber said nothing.
The silence between the three of them became unbearable.
ANTHONY“You really don’t want anything?”
Amber looked directly into his eyes.
She didn’t answer.
Her silence was enough.
Anthony picked up the pen.
He placed the papers on the table.
His eyes remained fixed on the signature line.
He hesitated.
Only for a second.
Then he signed.
The pen moved across the paper.
One signature. One final decision.
Anthony put the pen down.
He looked at Amber and Dave with a stunned expression.
Deep inside, however, he felt strangely happy.
He had feared losing money. He had feared a long battle. He had feared Amber would demand half of everything.
But none of that happened.
Amber walked in asking for only one thing.
A divorce.
Amber picked up the signed papers.
She looked at Anthony one last time.
Anthony looked back at her.
There were thousands of things he could say. Questions. Regrets. Anger. Memories.
But no words came out.
Amber turned toward the door. Dave followed her.
Anthony remained standing behind them.
He watched as Amber walked away.
Outside, Amber stepped into the night beside Dave.
DAVE“It’s over.”
AMBER“Yes.”
The car began to move away from Anthony’s house.
Inside the house, Anthony stood alone.
He looked down at the empty space where the divorce papers had been.
A quiet smile appeared on his face.
But beneath that smile was a strange emptiness.
He had gotten exactly what he thought he wanted.
No fifty percent. No financial battle. No demands.
Yet, as the house became completely silent, Anthony realized something unexpected.
Sometimes, when someone walks away asking for nothing, you finally understand just how much you have lost.
Outside, Amber and Dave disappeared into the night.
The divorce papers rested quietly in Amber’s hands.
Her old chapter was finished.
A new one had begun.
