THE CONFRONTATION OUTSIDE WAYNE’S HOUSE
A Stranger Outside the House
The evening is slowly turning into night. Warm lights shine from the windows of Wayne’s house. The street is quiet, but Wayne suddenly notices someone standing outside.
Wayne looks through the window and immediately recognizes Dan.
WAYNEWhat is Dan doing outside my house?
Wayne’s expression becomes serious. He quickly walks toward the front door and steps outside.
Dan notices Wayne and slowly walks toward him.
An Unexpected Question
Wayne stops a few feet away from Dan. The two men stare at each other.
WAYNEWhat are you doing outside my house?
Dan remains calm, but there is determination in his eyes.
DANI came here because I found out something.
WAYNEFound out what?
DANI found out that Lauren is here.
Wayne’s expression becomes colder.
WAYNEAnd?
DANI’m here to take Lauren with me.
Lauren Appears
Wayne immediately steps forward.
WAYNEYou’re not taking anyone anywhere.
DANYou don’t understand, Wayne.
WAYNENo. I understand perfectly. You came to my house without permission, and now you’re demanding that Lauren leave with you.
Before Dan can answer, the front door opens.
Lauren steps outside. She looks from Wayne to Dan, immediately sensing the tension.
LAURENWayne… what’s happening?
WAYNELauren, stay here.
Dan’s Demand
Dan looks directly at Lauren.
DANLauren, come with me.
Lauren doesn’t move.
LAURENDan, why are you here?
DANLauren, I came all this way because I needed to see you.
LAURENYou could have called me.
DANI didn’t want to call. I wanted to come myself.
Dan moves closer. Wayne immediately steps between them.
WAYNEThat’s close enough.
The Breaking Point
Move.
WAYNENo.
Dan suddenly pushes Wayne.
Wayne steps backward, then quickly regains his balance. His expression becomes furious.
WAYNEYou really shouldn’t have done that.
DANThen stay out of my way.
Dan moves forward again. Wayne blocks his path. The argument suddenly turns into a fierce physical struggle.
They grab each other’s arms and push one another away from the house.
LAURENWayne! Dan! Stop!
Neither man immediately listens.
Lauren Steps Between Them
Lauren finally steps between the two men.
LAURENENOUGH!
Both men stop.
Lauren stands between Wayne and Dan, breathing heavily.
LAURENLook at yourselves!
Her eyes move from one man to the other.
LAURENThis isn’t about who is stronger. It’s about what I want.
Wayne slowly lowers his hands.
WAYNELauren…
LAURENI appreciate that you’re trying to protect me, Wayne.
A Choice That Changes Everything
Lauren turns toward Dan. Her voice is calm, but firm.
LAURENDan, you cannot come here and force me to go with you.
Dan’s anger begins to fade. For the first time, uncertainty appears in his eyes.
DANI just wanted to talk to you.
LAURENThen talk.
DANI was afraid you wouldn’t come if I asked.
LAURENThen you should have respected my decision anyway.
Wayne steps backward, giving them space.
WAYNEShe’s right.
Dan looks at Wayne. The anger between them is still there, but the fight has ended.
DANYou don’t understand what this means to me.
WAYNEMaybe I don’t. But Lauren gets to decide what happens next.
Lauren looks between them.
The lights outside Wayne’s house glow against the darkening sky. The confrontation is over, but the conflict between Wayne, Dan, and Lauren is far from finished.
Dan takes a slow step backward.
DANFine. But I need you to hear me out.
LAURENI’ll listen.
Wayne remains nearby, watching carefully.
Dan looks at Wayne one final time.
Neither man trusts the other.
Lauren stands between them, realizing that tonight has changed everything.
