Larry Stops Brooke From Leaving With Lynette
LARRY STOPS BROOKE FROM LEAVING WITH LYNETTE
INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING

The house is unusually quiet.

Warm evening light spills through the windows.

BROOKE stands near the couch, looking exhausted and emotionally drained.

She holds her phone loosely in one hand.

A knock comes at the door.

Brooke looks up.

The door opens.

LYNETTE walks inside.

She immediately notices Brooke’s expression.

Lynette walks closer.

LYNETTE
Brooke, come stay with me.

Brooke looks surprised.

Lynette gently places a hand on the back of the couch.

LYNETTE
I have a room ready for you.
You can stay there as long as you need.
You can do whatever you want.
If you want to study, study.
If you don’t feel like studying, then don’t.
Nobody is going to pressure you.

Brooke looks down.

Her eyes become emotional.

For the first time that evening, she seems relieved.

BROOKE
You really have a room for me?

Lynette nods.

LYNETTE
Of course.
You shouldn’t feel like you have nowhere to go.

Brooke takes a slow breath.

She looks toward the hallway.

Then back at Lynette.

BROOKE
Okay.
I’ll go with you.
LYNETTE
Then let’s get your things.

Brooke immediately stands.

She walks toward the hallway.

INT. BROOKE’S BEDROOM – EVENING

Brooke enters her room.

She opens the closet.

She starts pulling out clothes.

She places them into a suitcase.

Her hands move quickly.

She adds a few books and personal belongings.

She pauses.

She looks around the room.

There is sadness in her eyes. She has spent so much time here. But tonight, she feels like she needs a change.

Lynette appears at the doorway.

LYNETTE
Take your time.
BROOKE
No.
I just want to leave.
LYNETTE
You don’t have to explain anything to me.

Brooke closes the suitcase.

BROOKE
Thank you.
LYNETTE
You don’t have to thank me.

Brooke grabs the suitcase handle.

They begin walking toward the living room.

INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

Brooke and Lynette walk down the hallway.

Brooke looks determined.

Then suddenly—

The front door opens.

LARRY walks inside.

He stops when he sees Brooke carrying a suitcase.

His expression immediately changes.

LARRY
What’s going on?

Brooke stops.

Lynette remains calm.

LYNETTE
Brooke is coming to stay with me.

Larry’s face becomes tense.

LARRY
She’s doing what?
BROOKE
I’m going with Lynette.

Larry looks at the suitcase.

His anger grows.

LARRY
No.
BROOKE
Larry—
LARRY
I said no.
LYNETTE
Larry, she wants to come with me.
LARRY
This doesn’t concern you.
LYNETTE
It concerns me because I’m offering her somewhere safe and peaceful to stay.
LARRY
You don’t need to go anywhere.
BROOKE
I want to.

A tense silence fills the room.

Larry walks toward Brooke.

LARRY
Why?
BROOKE
Because I need some space.
LARRY
Space?

He points toward the hallway.

LARRY
You have a home right here.
BROOKE
A home doesn’t mean I can’t leave for a while.

Lynette watches the argument carefully.

Larry suddenly reaches for Brooke’s suitcase.

Brooke tightens her grip.

BROOKE
What are you doing?

Larry takes the suitcase from her.

LARRY
You’re not taking this.

He carries it toward the hallway.

BROOKE
Larry, give me my things!

Larry places the suitcase down inside the hallway.

He turns around.

LARRY
You’re staying here.
BROOKE
You can’t make that decision for me.
LARRY
You don’t need to go with anybody.
LYNETTE
Larry, she’s not asking for permission.
LARRY
I heard what you said.
LARRY
But you’re not leaving tonight.

Brooke’s eyes fill with frustration.

BROOKE
Why are you suddenly so concerned about where I go?

Larry pauses.

He doesn’t immediately answer.

LARRY
Because you’re family.
BROOKE
Then listen to me.

Larry remains silent.

BROOKE
I need a little time away.
I need to clear my head.
I’m not disappearing.
I’m just going somewhere I can breathe.
LYNETTE
That’s all I’m offering her.

Larry looks between them.

His anger slowly turns into frustration.

He walks toward the window.

For a moment, nobody speaks.

The room becomes completely silent.

BROOKE
Please.

Larry closes his eyes briefly.

He seems torn between anger and concern.

LARRY
I don’t like this.
BROOKE
I know.
LARRY
And I don’t trust this situation.
LYNETTE
You don’t have to trust the situation.
You just have to trust Brooke enough to let her make a choice.

Larry turns around.

Brooke watches him carefully.

Another long silence follows.

Larry finally looks at the suitcase.

Then back at Brooke.

LARRY
So you’ve already made up your mind?
BROOKE
Yes.

Larry exhales slowly.

He walks over and picks up the suitcase again.

Brooke watches him.

For a second, she thinks he is going to stop her.

Instead, Larry places the suitcase beside the couch.

LARRY
I’m still angry.

Brooke says nothing.

LARRY
But I’m not going to pretend I don’t understand that you need space.

Lynette looks surprised.

Brooke’s expression softens.

BROOKE
Thank you.
LARRY
Just promise me you’ll call.
BROOKE
I promise.

Lynette picks up the suitcase.

LYNETTE
Ready?

Brooke looks back at Larry one final time.

He gives a reluctant nod.

Brooke turns toward the door.

She walks beside Lynette.

Larry remains standing in the living room.

The door slowly closes behind them.

Larry stares at it.

His anger is still there.
But underneath it is something deeper— Concern.

He slowly sits on the couch.

The house becomes quiet again.

FADE OUT.
