The Meeting That Turned Into a Fight
THE MEETING THAT TURNED INTO A FIGHT
INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING

The house is unusually quiet.

Warm evening light filters through the windows, casting long shadows across the living room.

BROOKE sits on the couch, staring down at her phone.

She looks exhausted.

There is still tension in her expression, as if she has been carrying too many unanswered questions for too long.

A sound comes from the front door.

Brooke looks up.

The door opens.

ISAIAH’S FATHER steps inside.

Isaiah follows behind him.

Brooke freezes.

Her eyes widen when she realizes who is standing there.

ISAIAH looks nervous.

He keeps his eyes lowered for a moment before finally looking at Brooke.

Brooke slowly stands.

BROOKE
Isaiah?

Isaiah’s father takes a step forward.

His expression is serious, but calm.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Brooke, I brought Isaiah here because I think the two of you need to talk.

Brooke looks at Isaiah.

She is clearly surprised.

BROOKE
Why did you bring him here?

Isaiah’s father looks between them.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Because there have been too many misunderstandings between you two.

He pauses.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
You both deserve the chance to say what really happened.

Isaiah finally speaks.

ISAIAH
Brooke, I know things have been complicated.

Brooke folds her arms.

BROOKE
Complicated?

Her voice shakes slightly.

BROOKE
Isaiah, I’ve been trying to understand everything that happened.

Isaiah nods.

ISAIAH
I know.

He takes a cautious step closer.

ISAIAH
And I should have explained myself sooner.

Brooke looks away.

For a moment, neither of them speaks.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Sit down.
Talk to each other.
No more assumptions.
No more listening to what other people say.

Brooke slowly sits.

Isaiah sits across from her.

Isaiah’s father looks at them one last time.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
I’m going to give you both some privacy.

He turns toward the hallway.

Before leaving, he looks back.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Tell each other the truth.

He walks away.

Brooke and Isaiah are left alone.

The silence feels heavy.

ISAIAH
I never wanted you to think I was trying to hurt you.

Brooke looks directly at him.

BROOKE
Then why did you let me believe all those things?

Isaiah struggles to answer.

ISAIAH
Because I didn’t know how to explain everything.

Brooke shakes her head.

BROOKE
You could have just talked to me.

Isaiah nods.

ISAIAH
You’re right.

A quiet moment passes.

Brooke’s expression softens slightly.

BROOKE
There were so many things I heard about you.
ISAIAH
And I heard things about you too.

They look at each other.

BROOKE
So we both believed things without asking each other.
ISAIAH
Exactly.

For the first time, the tension between them begins to ease.

Isaiah leans forward.

ISAIAH
I never wanted things to end this way.

Brooke looks down.

BROOKE
Neither did I.

Suddenly—FOOTSTEPS echo from the hallway.

Both of them turn.

LARRY enters the living room.

He stops immediately when he sees Isaiah.

His expression changes.

The calm atmosphere disappears.

Larry stares at Isaiah.

LARRY
What is he doing here?

Brooke quickly stands.

BROOKE
Larry, wait.
LARRY
You knew he was coming?
BROOKE
His father brought him here.

Larry looks toward the hallway.

His anger grows.

LARRY
His father brought him into my house?

Isaiah stands.

He remains calm.

ISAIAH
Larry, I didn’t come here to cause trouble.
LARRY
Then why are you here?

Isaiah takes a breath.

ISAIAH
To talk to Brooke.

Larry steps closer.

LARRY
You had plenty of opportunities to talk to her.

Brooke moves between them.

BROOKE
Larry, please calm down.
LARRY
Stay out of this.

Brooke looks shocked.

BROOKE
But this is between Isaiah and me.

Larry turns back toward Isaiah.

LARRY
You think you can just walk into my house and sit here with Brooke?

Isaiah’s expression becomes firmer.

ISAIAH
I’m not here to disrespect you.
LARRY
Then leave.

Isaiah shakes his head.

ISAIAH
Not until Brooke and I finish talking.

Larry’s anger boils over.

He steps toward Isaiah.

Brooke immediately notices the change in his expression.

BROOKE
Larry, don’t.

Isaiah remains where he is.

ISAIAH
I’m only trying to clear up the misunderstandings.

Larry suddenly shoves Isaiah backward.

Brooke gasps.

BROOKE
Larry!

Isaiah catches his balance.

He looks shocked.

ISAIAH
Larry, stop.

Larry steps forward again.

His anger takes over.

He starts striking Isaiah.

Brooke quickly moves between them.

BROOKE
STOP!

She raises her hands, trying to separate them.

Isaiah backs away.

Larry is still furious.

LARRY
You should never have come here!
ISAIAH
I came because I wanted to make things right.
LARRY
Get out!

Brooke turns toward Larry.

BROOKE
He came here because his father wanted us to clear everything up!
LARRY
And you actually believe him?

Brooke’s eyes fill with frustration.

BROOKE
I don’t know what to believe anymore!

The room falls silent.

Isaiah looks at Brooke.

ISAIAH
Brooke…

She looks at him.

ISAIAH
I didn’t come here to fight.

He looks toward Larry.

ISAIAH
I came here because I wanted her to hear the truth from me.

Larry’s breathing slowly becomes calmer.

But his expression remains hard.

Footsteps suddenly come from the hallway.

ISAIAH’S FATHER rushes back into the room.

He immediately sees the tension.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
What happened?

Brooke turns toward him.

BROOKE
Larry got angry.

Isaiah’s father looks at Larry.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
I brought Isaiah here so they could talk, not so this could happen.

Larry looks away.

Isaiah’s father approaches his son.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Are you okay?
ISAIAH
I’m fine.

His father looks at Brooke.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
I’m sorry you had to see this.

Brooke shakes her head.

BROOKE
This wasn’t supposed to happen.

Larry finally speaks.

His voice is quieter now.

LARRY
I shouldn’t have lost my temper.

Brooke looks at him.

Isaiah remains silent.

Larry looks toward Isaiah.

LARRY
But I still don’t want you around Brooke.

Isaiah takes a breath.

ISAIAH
I understand.

He looks at Brooke one last time.

There is sadness in his eyes.

ISAIAH
But at least she knows why I came.

Brooke nods slowly.

BROOKE
I do.

Isaiah’s father places a hand on his son’s shoulder.

ISAIAH’S FATHER
Come on.

Isaiah turns toward the door.

Before leaving, he looks back at Brooke.

She watches him silently.

The door closes behind them.

Brooke remains standing in the living room.

Larry looks at her.

For a moment, neither speaks.

The evening suddenly feels much heavier than before.

Brooke slowly turns away.

The misunderstandings may have finally begun to clear—
but the confrontation has created an entirely new problem.
