Lauren’s Secret
Lauren had been acting strangely all morning.
She was quieter than usual, constantly checking her phone and quickly turning the screen away whenever Wayne walked into the room. Wayne noticed every little detail, but he decided not to confront her just yet.
“Everything okay?” Wayne asked casually.
Lauren looked up and forced a smile.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just have to take care of something outside.”
Wayne nodded.
“Something important?”
“Not really,” Lauren replied quickly. “Just something I need to handle.”
Wayne studied her face for a moment.
“Alright. Be careful.”
“Of course,” Lauren said before grabbing her things and heading toward the door.
He knew something wasn’t right.
He had seen that look before. The nervous smile. The quick answers. The way she avoided eye contact.
Wayne quietly picked up his phone and watched from the window.
Lauren got into her car and drove away.
Wayne waited a few moments before following.
He didn’t call her.
He didn’t text her.
He simply followed from a distance.
The Secret Meeting
Lauren eventually arrived at a quiet location away from Wayne’s house. She parked her car and looked around carefully.
She thought she was safe.
A few minutes later, another car pulled up.
Dan stepped out.
Lauren immediately smiled when she saw him.
“Hey,” Dan said.
“Hey,” Lauren replied softly.
They hugged briefly before walking toward a nearby bench.
Neither of them noticed the car that had stopped far enough away to remain unnoticed.
Wayne was sitting inside.
His eyes were fixed on them.
“What are you two doing?” he whispered to himself.
Wayne didn’t get out.
Not yet.
He wanted to hear what they were saying.
Lauren sat beside Dan and lowered her voice.
“I had to lie to Wayne to come here.”
Dan looked concerned.
“You sure that was a good idea?”
“I didn’t have a choice,” Lauren said. “If he knew I was meeting you, he would never have let me come.”
Dan sighed.
“Lauren, this is getting complicated.”
“I know.”
“No, I mean really complicated.”
Lauren looked down.
“I just needed to talk to you.”
Dan stared at her.
“About us?”
Lauren hesitated.
“Maybe.”
Inside the car, Wayne’s jaw tightened.
“About us?” he repeated under his breath.
His hands gripped the steering wheel.
Wayne had already suspected something.
But hearing those words made everything feel different.
For months, he had tried to give Lauren everything she wanted.
A home.
A car.
A comfortable life.
He had even helped her get a job at his podcast office because he wanted her to have opportunities and independence.
He thought he was building a future with her.
And now she was sitting with Dan behind his back.
Wayne shook his head.
“I gave you everything,” he whispered. “Everything you asked for…”
But he still stayed where he was.
He wanted to know the truth.
The Confession
Lauren looked at Dan.
“I don’t want to hurt anybody.”
Dan replied:
“Then why are you here?”
Lauren took a deep breath.
“Because I still have feelings for you.”
Wayne’s eyes widened.
For a moment, he almost opened the car door.
But he stopped himself.
“No,” he whispered. “Let them talk.”
Dan looked nervous.
“Lauren, you’re with Wayne.”
“I know.”
“And he’s done a lot for you.”
Lauren nodded.
“I know that too.”
“Then what are we doing?”
Lauren looked directly into Dan’s eyes.
“I don’t know.”
Wayne heard every word.
His anger was growing, but underneath that anger was something else.
Disappointment.
He had believed Lauren trusted him.
He had believed everything they had built together meant something.
And now he was discovering that she had been hiding something from him.
Wayne Gets Closer
Wayne slowly stepped out of the car.
He kept his distance.
One step.
Then another.
He moved quietly behind them.
Lauren and Dan were still talking.
They had absolutely no idea Wayne was getting closer.
Dan suddenly asked:
“Does Wayne know you’re here?”
Lauren shook her head.
“No.”
“Does he know about us?”
Lauren paused.
“No.”
Wayne stopped walking.
His face became completely serious.
“About us…”
He had heard enough to know this was bigger than he thought.
But he still wanted to hear Lauren say it herself.
Dan leaned closer.
“You can’t keep doing this.”
“I know,” Lauren whispered.
“You have to make a choice.”
Lauren looked emotional.
“I’m scared.”
“Of Wayne?”
Lauren nodded.
“Not because he’s going to hurt me. I just know how angry he’ll be.”
Wayne heard that.
For the first time, his anger turned into sadness.
“You’re scared of telling me the truth… but you weren’t scared of lying to me?”
He stood only a few steps behind them.
Lauren still hadn’t noticed.
Dan looked over Lauren’s shoulder.
His eyes suddenly widened.
Lauren noticed his expression.
“What?”
Dan didn’t answer.
“What is it?” Lauren asked.
Dan slowly looked past her.
Silent.
Still.
Watching them.
Lauren turned around.
Her face immediately dropped.
“Wayne…”
Wayne stared at her.
“Hi, Lauren.”
The Confrontation
Her voice became shaky.
“What are you doing here?”
Wayne gave a small, almost emotionless smile.
“That’s what I was going to ask you.”
Dan stood up.
“Wayne, listen—”
Wayne raised his hand.
“Not yet.”
Dan stopped.
Wayne looked at Lauren.
“You told me you had somewhere important to go.”
Lauren couldn’t speak.
“You told me it wasn’t anything serious.”
She looked down.
Wayne continued.
“And then I find you here… with him.”
Lauren finally said:
“Wayne, please let me explain.”
“Explain what?”
“I didn’t mean for you to find out like this.”
Wayne looked hurt.
“That’s the problem, Lauren. You weren’t planning on me finding out at all.”
Silence.
Dan looked between them.
Wayne took a breath.
“I gave you a home. I gave you a car. I helped you get a job at my podcast office. I stood by you because I believed we were building something together.”
Lauren’s eyes filled with emotion.
“I appreciate everything you’ve done.”
Wayne shook his head.
“I don’t want you to appreciate what I gave you. I wanted you to appreciate me.”
That sentence left Lauren speechless.
Dan quietly said:
“Wayne, there’s more to this than you think.”
Wayne turned toward him.
“Then tell me.”
Dan hesitated.
Wayne stepped closer.
“What exactly have you and Lauren been talking about?”
Dan looked at Lauren.
Lauren looked terrified.
Wayne noticed.
“What?” he asked.
Neither of them answered.
Wayne’s voice became calmer.
“Lauren… is there something else you haven’t told me?”
Lauren slowly looked at Wayne.
“There is…”
Wayne’s expression changed.
“What is it?”
Lauren opened her mouth to speak.
But before she could say anything, Dan suddenly interrupted.
“Lauren, don’t.”
Wayne turned toward him.
“Don’t what?”
Dan went silent.
Wayne stared at both of them.
There was another secret.
Something bigger.
Something they had been hiding from him.
Wayne took one final step forward.
“Whatever you’re hiding from me… I’m going to find out.”
Lauren looked at Dan, then back at Wayne.
Her eyes filled with panic.
The Unknown Caller
And just as she was about to reveal the truth…
Everyone froze.
Lauren looked at the screen.
Wayne noticed her reaction.
“Who is calling you?”
Lauren didn’t answer.
The phone kept ringing.
Dan whispered:
“Don’t pick it up.”
Wayne’s eyes narrowed.
“Why?”
Lauren slowly looked at Wayne.
And then…
She answered the call.
“Hello?”
A voice on the other end said something that instantly changed Lauren’s expression.
Wayne watched her face carefully.
“What did they say?” he demanded.
Lauren slowly lowered the phone.
She looked at Wayne with fear in her eyes.
“Wayne…”
“What?”
“You’re not going to believe who just called me.”
Wayne stared at her.
“Who?”
Lauren took a deep breath.
And before she could reveal the name…
The call suddenly disconnected.
Wayne looked at Dan.
Dan looked terrified.
And Wayne realized this wasn’t just about Lauren and Dan anymore.
There was someone else involved.
Someone Wayne never expected.
