Brooke’s College Journey

Will Brooke Completely Change Because of Her New Friends, or Can Bethany Bring Her Back Before It’s Too Late?

After listening carefully to Bethany’s advice, Brooke remained quiet for a moment. She knew Bethany was not trying to control her life. She was simply worried about her future and wanted Brooke to make choices that would help her build a better life.

Brooke finally looked at Bethany and agreed to take her advice.

“Okay. I understand what you’re saying. I’ll give college a real chance, and I’ll focus on my future.”

Bethany felt relieved. She believed Brooke had finally understood how important her next few decisions would be. She wanted Brooke to have her own goals, become independent, and create a future she could be proud of.

A Fresh Start

When Brooke eventually started college, everything seemed to be going exactly as planned. During the first few weeks, she attended her classes, kept up with her assignments, and tried to adjust to her new surroundings. She was excited about having a fresh start and meeting people outside of her usual circle.

At first, Brooke’s new friendships seemed harmless. She met several students who were outgoing, confident, and always looking for something fun to do. Brooke enjoyed spending time with them because they made college feel less stressful.

A Friend Begins to Influence Brooke

Among those new friends was someone who quickly became especially close to Brooke. He began spending more and more time with her and slowly started influencing the way she looked at her future.

One afternoon, he tried to convince Brooke that college was not the only path to happiness.

“You keep thinking your future has to be about college. Maybe that is not what you really want. You could spend your time doing something you actually enjoy.”

Brooke listened, but she did not immediately agree.

“I know what Bethany told me. She wants me to stay focused and take college seriously.”

Her friend shook his head.

“Bethany may mean well, but you have to live your own life. If you stay with me, you will be happier. You do not have to follow everyone else’s expectations.”

Those words stayed in Brooke’s mind long after the conversation ended.

Brooke Slowly Starts Changing

At first, Brooke continued going to class and keeping her promises to Bethany. But as the weeks passed, her new friends became a bigger part of her life. She began spending more time with them and less time concentrating on her studies.

Her priorities slowly began to change.

The Brooke who had once promised Bethany that she would focus on her future was now staying out later, missing important responsibilities, and becoming increasingly distracted by the people around her.

Her friends encouraged her to enjoy herself and stop worrying so much about what other people expected from her. Brooke started believing that she had been taking life too seriously.

Bethany Begins to Notice

Whenever Bethany called to check on her, Brooke tried to make everything sound normal.

“How is college going?” Bethany asked one evening.
“It’s fine. Everything is good,” Brooke replied.

But Bethany could hear something different in her voice.

“You sound different lately. Are you sure everything is okay?”

Brooke hesitated before answering.

“I’m just busy. College is different from what I expected.”

Bethany wanted to ask more questions, but she did not want to push Brooke away. She trusted that Brooke would eventually understand what was happening.

The Warning Signs Become Clear

However, Brooke’s behavior continued to change.

Her friends became more important to her than her responsibilities. She began questioning the advice she had once accepted from Bethany, and the person who had been influencing her the most kept reminding her that she did not need to live according to anyone else’s expectations.

One day, Brooke realized that she had fallen behind in several areas of her life. She was no longer as focused as she had been when she first started college. The excitement of having new friends had slowly turned into confusion about what she actually wanted.

Bethany Confronts Brooke

Bethany eventually noticed the change for herself.

When she saw Brooke again, she immediately realized that something was different.

“I know you told me you wanted to focus on your future,” Bethany said. “But lately, it feels like you are moving further away from the person you wanted to become.”

Brooke became defensive.

“I’m just trying to figure things out. I don’t want everyone telling me what I should do.”

Bethany remained calm.

“I’m not trying to control your life. I just want you to remember why you chose this path in the first place.”

Brooke Faces a Difficult Choice

Brooke had no immediate answer.

For the first time, she began thinking about how much had changed since that conversation in her bedroom. She had promised Bethany that she would focus on college and her future, but now she was allowing other people to influence decisions that could affect the rest of her life.

Bethany knew she could not make the decision for Brooke. All she could do was remind her of the person she wanted to become.

Now Brooke had to make a choice.

Would she continue following the people who were slowly pulling her away from her goals, or would she finally recognize the change happening within herself and find her way back?

The future of Brooke’s college journey was now in her own hands.
