SCENE 1 — ANTHONY AND D’NISHA’S HOME

The evening is quiet. Anthony sits on the couch, staring at his phone. His expression is tense, as if he has been carrying a difficult decision in his mind all day.
D’Nisha walks into the living room and immediately notices that something is wrong.
D’NISHA “What’s going on, Anthony? You look like something is bothering you.”
Anthony slowly looks up. He takes a deep breath before answering.
ANTHONY “Amber contacted me today.”
D’Nisha’s expression immediately changes. She stands still, waiting for Anthony to explain.
D’NISHA “Amber? What does she want?”
ANTHONY “She wants to meet me tomorrow.”
D’NISHA “For what?”
Anthony hesitates for a moment.
ANTHONY “She wants to talk about the divorce.”
D’Nisha folds her arms. She assumes the conversation will finally bring an end to Anthony’s complicated relationship with Amber.
D’NISHA “So she finally wants to move forward with it?”
ANTHONY “That’s what she told me.”
D’NISHA “And what did you tell her?”
Anthony looks away. His silence immediately makes D’Nisha uncomfortable.
D’NISHA “Anthony, I asked you what you told her.”
ANTHONY “I told her I would meet her tomorrow and talk about everything.”
D’NISHA “And you’re going to sign the divorce papers, right?”
Anthony looks down. His hesitation speaks louder than words.
D’NISHA “Anthony?”
ANTHONY “I don’t know.”
D’NISHA “What do you mean you don’t know?”
Anthony stands up and tries to remain calm.
ANTHONY “D’Nisha, please just listen to me.”
D’NISHA “No! You need to answer me.”
Anthony takes a deep breath. Then he finally says the words D’Nisha never expected to hear.
ANTHONY: “I don’t want to divorce Amber.”
The room suddenly becomes silent. D’Nisha stares at him in disbelief.
D’NISHA “What did you just say?”
ANTHONY “I said I don’t want to divorce Amber.”
D’Nisha’s anger rises immediately. She steps toward Anthony, unable to understand why he is still holding on to his marriage.
D’NISHA “After everything we have been through, you’re telling me you don’t want to divorce her?”
ANTHONY “It’s not that simple.”
D’NISHA “It is simple to me!”
D’Nisha points toward Anthony, her voice filled with frustration.
D’NISHA “You married me. You told me that you wanted a future with me. You made me believe that Amber was no longer part of your life.”
ANTHONY “I never said Amber meant nothing to me.”
D’Nisha becomes even more furious after hearing Anthony admit that Amber still means something to him.
D’NISHA “So what does that make me?”
ANTHONY “That’s not what I mean.”
D’NISHA “Then what do you mean, Anthony?”
Anthony struggles to find the right words. He knows that whatever he says could make the situation even worse.
ANTHONY “I don’t want to divorce Amber because I still have unresolved feelings about our marriage. I need some time to handle this situation properly.”
D’NISHA “You need time?”
ANTHONY “Yes.”
D’Nisha suddenly raises her hand and slaps Anthony across the face. Anthony turns his head from the impact.
D’NISHA: “Why don’t you want to divorce Amber?”
Anthony slowly looks back at D’Nisha. He knows that she deserves an honest answer.
ANTHONY “Because I don’t want to make a decision based on anger. There are things between Amber and me that were never properly resolved.”
D’NISHA “You’re protecting her.”
ANTHONY “I’m trying to handle this the right way.”
D’NISHA “No, Anthony. You’re keeping one foot in your marriage with Amber while asking me to stand beside you.”
Anthony looks down, realizing how deeply his words have hurt D’Nisha.
ANTHONY “I never wanted you to feel like you were second to her.”
D’NISHA “But that is exactly how I feel.”
D’Nisha’s anger begins to mix with sadness. She wipes away a tear, but she refuses to let Anthony see how deeply his decision has affected her.
ANTHONY “I know I’ve hurt you. I know you deserve clarity. But I don’t want to make a decision tonight that I’ll regret tomorrow.”
D’NISHA “Then what am I supposed to do while you figure out what you want?”
Anthony has no immediate answer. The silence between them becomes heavy.
ANTHONY “I’m asking you to give me a little time.”
D’NISHA “I can give you time, Anthony. But I won’t wait forever.”
Anthony nods slowly. He knows that tomorrow’s meeting with Amber could change everything.
ANTHONY “I understand.”
D’Nisha turns away and walks toward the bedroom. She stops at the doorway without turning around.
D’NISHA “Tomorrow, when you meet Amber, remember that someone is waiting here for an answer.”
Anthony watches her disappear into the hallway. He looks down at his phone. Amber’s name is still on the screen.
Anthony takes a deep breath. He knows he cannot avoid the truth forever. His past with Amber is pulling him in one direction, while his relationship with D’Nisha is pulling him in another.
ANTHONY “What am I going to do?”
The camera slowly pulls away from Anthony as he remains alone in the living room. D’Nisha is behind a closed bedroom door, hurt and angry, while Amber is waiting for tomorrow’s meeting.
