Sharra Slaps Lynette After She Tries to Take Brooke

SHARRA SLAPS LYNETTE AFTER SHE TRIES TO TAKE BROOKE

SCENE 1 — BROOKE’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON

The afternoon is peaceful, but Brooke’s heart is heavy. She sits outside her house, thinking about everything that has happened recently. She feels trapped between the people who claim to care about her.

Suddenly, a car pulls into the driveway. Brooke looks up and sees Lynette stepping out. Lynette walks toward the house with a warm but concerned expression.

BROOKE

Lynette? What are you doing here?

LYNETTE

I came to see you, Brooke. I wanted to make sure you’re okay.

Brooke looks down. She tries to hide how emotional she feels.

BROOKE

Things have been difficult lately. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do anymore.

LYNETTE

You don’t have to figure everything out alone.

Lynette gently reaches for Brooke’s hand.

LYNETTE

My home will always have a place for you. If you ever need somewhere safe to go, you can come to me.

Brooke looks at Lynette with surprise. Her eyes become emotional because she feels supported for the first time in a long time.

BROOKE

You really mean that?

LYNETTE

I mean every word. I just want you to be okay.

SCENE 2 — SHARRA HEARS THE NEWS

Inside the house, Sharra suddenly hears part of the conversation. She stops in the hallway when she hears Lynette offering Brooke a place to stay.

Sharra’s expression changes immediately. She feels threatened and becomes furious.

SHARRA

What did she just say?

Sharra listens for another moment. When she realizes Lynette is serious about helping Brooke, her anger grows stronger.

Sharra believes Lynette is trying to take Brooke away from her.

SHARRA

Absolutely not. I’m not going to let that happen.

Sharra storms outside, determined to confront Lynette.

SCENE 3 — THE CONFRONTATION BEGINS

Lynette is still talking to Brooke when Sharra suddenly approaches. Brooke immediately notices the anger on Sharra’s face.

BROOKE

Sharra…

SHARRA

You!

Lynette turns toward Sharra, confused by her aggressive tone.

LYNETTE

What is going on?

SHARRA

Who do you think you are? You come here and tell Brooke that she can live with you?

LYNETTE

I’m not trying to take Brooke away from anyone. I’m only trying to help her.

SHARRA

Then why are you telling her that your home is always open to her?

LYNETTE

Because Brooke deserves to know that she has somewhere safe to go.

Brooke looks between the two women, realizing that the situation is quickly becoming more serious.

BROOKE

Please, both of you. Stop fighting.

SCENE 4 — SHARRA LOSES HER TEMPER

Sharra steps closer to Lynette. Her anger is now impossible to hide.

SHARRA

You need to understand something. You cannot take Brooke with you.

LYNETTE

Brooke is not something you own. She can make her own decisions.

Those words make Sharra even more furious.

SHARRA

Don’t tell me what I can and cannot do!

LYNETTE

I’m not here to fight with you.

SHARRA

Then you should have stayed away from Brooke!

Lynette takes a small step back. She tries to keep the situation calm.

LYNETTE

I came here because I care about her.

SHARRA

I don’t care why you came!

Suddenly, Sharra raises her hand. Brooke realizes what is about to happen.

BROOKE

Sharra, don’t!

But Sharra loses control and slaps Lynette across the face. Lynette stumbles backward in shock.

The entire atmosphere suddenly becomes silent. Brooke is horrified by what she has witnessed.

BROOKE

Oh my God! Sharra, why did you do that?

LYNETTE

You just slapped me…

SHARRA

And I’ll do it again if you try to take Brooke away!

SCENE 5 — BROOKE DEFENDS LYNETTE

Brooke steps forward. She is no longer willing to remain silent.

BROOKE

That’s enough, Sharra!

SHARRA

Brooke, you don’t understand what she’s doing.

BROOKE

No. You don’t understand. Lynette wasn’t forcing me to go anywhere. She was only trying to help me.

Sharra looks at Brooke, surprised by her response.

BROOKE

You could have talked to her. You didn’t have to hit her.

SHARRA

I was trying to protect you.

BROOKE

Then stop making every decision for me.

Sharra becomes quiet. Brooke’s words have clearly affected her.

SCENE 6 — LYNETTE MAKES A CHOICE

Lynette takes a deep breath and looks at Sharra. She is clearly upset, but she refuses to make the situation worse.

LYNETTE

I’m not going to fight you, Sharra.

SHARRA

Good. Then leave.

Lynette looks at Brooke.

LYNETTE

Brooke, I’m going to leave for now. I don’t want this situation to become worse.

BROOKE

You’re leaving?

LYNETTE

For now. But I’m not leaving because Sharra scared me away. I’m leaving because I want everyone to calm down.

Lynette turns toward her car.

BROOKE

Thank you, Lynette. I’m sorry this happened.

LYNETTE

None of this is your fault. If you ever need me, you know where to find me.

SCENE 7 — BROOKE CONFRONTS SHARRA

Lynette drives away. Brooke watches her car disappear down the street before turning back toward Sharra.

BROOKE

Why did you do that?

SHARRA

Because I don’t trust Lynette.

BROOKE

That doesn’t give you the right to hit her.

Sharra looks away. She knows Brooke has a point, but her anger still controls her emotions.

BROOKE

Every time someone tries to help me, you get angry. You say you care about me, but you keep making decisions for me.

SHARRA

I’m just trying to protect you.

BROOKE

Then stop making decisions for me. If Lynette offers me a place to stay, that’s my decision.

Sharra is left speechless as Brooke walks toward the house.

SCENE 8 — LYNETTE’S CAR — EVENING

Lynette sits quietly inside her car. She touches her cheek and takes a deep breath. The incident has deeply upset her, but she remains determined to help Brooke.

LYNETTE

I’m not going to let this stop me from helping Brooke.

She picks up her phone and considers calling Brooke, but decides to give her some time.

LYNETTE

She needs time to think.

Lynette starts the car and drives away. Meanwhile, Brooke stands near the window watching her leave.

Brooke knows the conflict between Lynette and Sharra is far from over. She now has to decide what she truly wants and where she feels safe.

FADE OUT.

Brooke’s situation has become more complicated than ever. Lynette has offered her a safe place, while Sharra is determined to keep her close. But after Sharra’s shocking outburst, Brooke may finally be ready to make a decision for herself.

What will Lynette do next, and will Brooke choose to leave with her?
