The Door That Should Never Have Opened

THE DOOR THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE OPENED

A Night of Betrayal, Fear, and a Secret No One Expected

HOOK — THE KNOCK

The knocking sounded ordinary.

But Destiny had no idea that opening that door would turn an ordinary afternoon into the most terrifying moment of her life.

She expected to see someone familiar.

Instead, Dutchess’s boyfriend was standing outside.

And Destiny had no idea why he had really come.

SCENE 1 — DESTINY’S HOUSE

Afternoon — The house is unusually quiet.

Destiny stepped inside and placed her bag on the table. She looked around the quiet house.

No one was there.

She sighed and walked toward the living room.

Then—

KNOCK. KNOCK.

Destiny froze.

Another knock followed.

DESTINY
Who is it?

Silence.

Destiny slowly approached the door and opened it.

Her expression immediately changed.

Dutchess’s boyfriend was standing outside.

DUTCHESS’S BOYFRIEND
Hey, Destiny.
DESTINY
What are you doing here?
DUTCHESS’S BOYFRIEND
Is Dutchess home?
DESTINY
No. She’s at work right now.

He paused.

Something about his expression made Destiny uncomfortable.

SCENE 2 — THE EMPTY HOUSE

The silence suddenly feels different.
DUTCHESS’S BOYFRIEND
Can I come inside for a minute?

Destiny hesitated before stepping aside.

He entered the house and looked around.

The house was completely empty.

Destiny noticed his strange behavior.

DESTINY
Did you need something?

He moved closer.

Destiny immediately became uncomfortable and tried to create distance.

DESTINY
Why are you acting like this?
Destiny realized that something was seriously wrong.

She tried to get away and began shouting for help.

DESTINY
Leave me alone! Somebody help me!
But there was nobody else inside.

SCENE 3 — DUTCHESS RETURNS

Outside the house — Moments later.

A car pulled up outside.

Dutchess had returned home earlier than expected.

As she approached the house, she heard something.

A muffled sound came from inside.

Dutchess stopped.

DUTCHESS
Destiny?

Then she heard Destiny shouting.

“Please! Somebody help me!”

Dutchess’s eyes widened. She rushed toward the door.

DUTCHESS
Destiny! Open the door!

No answer.

She tried the handle.

Locked.

Dutchess looked at the door in disbelief.

Then she remembered something.

Her spare key.

SCENE 4 — THE DOOR OPENS

Everything changes in one second.

Dutchess pulled the key from her bag. Her hands were shaking.

She inserted it into the lock.

CLICK.

The door opened.

Dutchess stepped inside.

DUTCHESS
Destiny?

No answer.

She followed the sound coming from another room.

Slowly, she reached the doorway.

Then she saw them.

Dutchess’s boyfriend was there with Destiny. Destiny looked frightened and was trying to get away from him.

Dutchess stood frozen.

For several seconds, she couldn’t speak.

The person she trusted had betrayed that trust in the worst possible way.
DUTCHESS
What… are you doing?

Her boyfriend turned toward her.

DUTCHESS’S BOYFRIEND
Dutchess…
DUTCHESS
Don’t say my name.

SCENE 5 — THE CONFRONTATION

The room falls completely silent.

Destiny quickly moved away from him.

DESTINY
Dutchess, I tried to stop him.

Dutchess looked at Destiny, then back at her boyfriend.

DUTCHESS
You came into my house.

Her voice trembled with anger.

DUTCHESS
You knew Destiny was alone.
DUTCHESS
And you still did this?
DUTCHESS’S BOYFRIEND
It’s not what you think.
DUTCHESS
I saw it with my own eyes!

Silence filled the room.

Dutchess stepped between him and Destiny.

DUTCHESS
Get out.
DUTCHESS
I said get out of my house.

SCENE 6 — DESTINY’S FEAR

A few minutes later.

Destiny sat down, still shaken.

Dutchess brought her some water.

DUTCHESS
Take your time. You’re safe now.

Destiny held the glass with both hands.

DESTINY
I thought he came because he needed you.

Dutchess looked down.

DUTCHESS
I thought I knew him.
But something still didn’t make sense.

Why had he come to the house when Dutchess wasn’t there?

SCENE 7 — THE SECRET

Later that night.

Dutchess stood near the doorway when she noticed something on the floor.

A small envelope.

She picked it up.

There was no name written on it.

Dutchess opened it carefully.

Inside was a photograph.

Dutchess’s face suddenly changed.

The photograph showed her boyfriend standing outside Destiny’s house.

But the date printed on the back was from three days earlier.

Dutchess stared at the photograph.

This hadn’t been the first time he had planned to come here.

Someone had known.

Someone had planned something.

DUTCHESS
Who else knew?

FINAL SUSPENSE

The house fell silent again.

Somewhere outside, a car stopped near the curb.

The headlights suddenly turned off.

Dutchess couldn’t see who was inside.

Then her phone buzzed.

“You should have stayed out of this.”

Dutchess stared at the message.

Her face went pale.

She slowly locked the front door.

But this time, she wasn’t sure the danger was outside.

It might already be inside the house.
