Nowhere Else to Go
Brooke walks alone down the street, her travel bag gripped tightly in one hand. Tears slide down her cheeks, one after another, as the events of the night replay in her mind.
She has just left Cameron’s house after the painful confrontation. No home to return to. No clear place to land. Only one thought keeps her moving forward — Hope and Faith. Maybe they would let her stay, even just for a little while.
She reaches their front door and stops, taking a shaky breath before raising her hand to knock.
The Doorstep
The door opens. Hope and Faith step outside, their faces shifting instantly to surprise at the sight of Brooke standing there, crying, bag in hand.
HOPE: Brooke? What happened — are you okay?
Brooke tightens her grip on the bag strap, fighting to keep her voice steady.
BROOKE: I left my home because of everything that happened. I have nowhere else to go. I just want to stay with you guys for a while. I want to be around people instead of being alone.
For a moment, Hope and Faith’s faces soften with concern. But almost as quickly, something shifts. Their expressions grow guarded, uncertain. They glance at each other — a quiet, loaded look that Brooke isn’t meant to catch, but does.
The Hesitation
The warmth Brooke was hoping for begins to fade before her eyes.
FAITH: Brooke, we — we didn’t know things had gotten that bad.
HOPE: Of course we care about you. It’s just… this isn’t really something we planned for.
Brooke watches them carefully, searching their faces for any sign of the welcome she came here for.
BROOKE: I wouldn’t be any trouble. I just need somewhere to stay for a bit.
Faith shifts her weight, avoiding Brooke’s eyes for a second too long.
FAITH: It’s not that simple, Brooke. There’s a lot to think about.
HOPE: We just need a minute. This is a lot to take in all at once.
The conversation grows heavier, the silences between words stretching longer. Brooke can feel the answer forming even before either of them says it out loud.
The Weight of Waiting
Brooke remains standing on the doorstep, clutching her bag, tears still falling. Her expression slips from hopeful to something closer to devastation as the realization sets in — even this, her last option, might not hold.
Hope and Faith stay framed in the doorway, exchanging another uncertain glance. Neither one steps aside. Neither one closes the door either.
Brooke looks at them with tear-filled eyes, saying nothing now, simply waiting.
BROOKE: So… is that a no?
Hope opens her mouth, then closes it again. Faith looks down at the ground. The door stays open between them, but it no longer feels like an invitation — it feels like a wall Brooke can’t see.
Brooke stands frozen on the doorstep, completely vulnerable, with nowhere left in mind to go — while Hope and Faith remain caught in their own silence, unable to say yes and unable to say no, leaving Brooke to wonder if she has truly run out of places to belong.
