Scene 1 — The Shocking News
Late afternoon. The neighborhood is quiet. Sharra stands near her car, checking her phone. Her expression is calm — until a friend rushes toward her.
FRIEND: Sharra, you need to hear what happened.
SHARRA: What is it?
The friend hesitates.
FRIEND: Bethany had a serious argument with Brooke. She was extremely disrespectful to her.
Sharra’s face immediately changes.
SHARRA: What do you mean, disrespectful?
FRIEND: She spoke to Brooke badly. Brooke was upset.
Sharra slowly lowers her phone. Her eyes fill with anger.
SHARRA: Nobody talks to my daughter like that.
FRIEND: I thought you should know.
Sharra takes a deep breath, trying to control herself.
SHARRA: Where is Bethany?
FRIEND: At home.
Sharra looks toward her car.
SHARRA: Then that’s exactly where I’m going.
She quickly opens the driver’s door. Her anger is no longer hidden.
SHARRA: Bethany is about to learn that she crossed the wrong line.
Sharra gets into her car and starts the engine. The car pulls away.
Scene 2 — Sharra’s Angry Drive
Inside the car, Sharra grips the steering wheel tightly. The city streets pass by outside her window. But Sharra’s mind is focused on only one thing — Brooke.
SHARRA: To disrespect Brooke like that…
She shakes her head.
SHARRA: What was Bethany thinking?
Her phone rings. It is Brooke. Sharra immediately answers.
SHARRA: Brooke?
BROOKE: Mom…
Brooke’s voice sounds quiet and hurt.
SHARRA: Are you okay?
BROOKE: I’m fine.
SHARRA: No, you’re not. I can hear it in your voice.
Brooke remains silent for a moment.
BROOKE: I just don’t understand why Bethany treats me like this.
Sharra’s expression hardens.
SHARRA: Listen to me. You don’t have to understand her behavior. But you also don’t have to accept disrespect from anyone.
BROOKE: Mom, please don’t make things worse.
Sharra looks straight ahead.
SHARRA: I’m not going there to make things worse.
A brief pause.
SHARRA: I’m going there because Bethany needs to understand something.
BROOKE: What?
SHARRA: That you have a mother who will always stand up for you.
Brooke becomes emotional.
BROOKE: Mom…
SHARRA: I’ll talk to you later, sweetheart.
Sharra ends the call. Her car continues down the road.
Scene 3 — Bethany’s House
Bethany sits inside her living room. She looks irritated but relaxed. She has no idea that Sharra is coming. Suddenly, the sound of a car stopping outside catches her attention. Bethany looks toward the window.
BETHANY: Who is that?
She walks closer and looks outside. Her expression changes.
BETHANY: Sharra?
Bethany watches as Sharra gets out of her car. Sharra shuts the car door firmly. Bethany immediately knows something is wrong.
BETHANY: Oh, here we go.
Moments later, there is a hard knock at the door. Bethany takes a deep breath and opens it. Sharra stands there, staring directly at her. The tension is immediate.
BETHANY: What do you want?
SHARRA: You know exactly why I’m here.
BETHANY: No, I don’t.
Sharra steps closer.
SHARRA: Don’t play games with me, Bethany.
Bethany folds her arms.
BETHANY: I’m not playing any games.
SHARRA: I heard what happened between you and Brooke.
Bethany’s expression becomes defensive.
BETHANY: Then you only heard one side of the story.
SHARRA: I heard enough.
Bethany gives a sarcastic laugh.
BETHANY: Of course you did. Brooke runs to her mother, and now her mother comes running to save her.
Sharra’s eyes narrow.
SHARRA: Watch what you say.
BETHANY: Why? Did I say something wrong?
Sharra takes another step forward.
SHARRA: You were disrespectful to my daughter.
BETHANY: Brooke is old enough to handle a conversation without her mother coming here.
SHARRA: This isn’t about whether she can handle a conversation.
Sharra points toward Bethany.
SHARRA: This is about you thinking you have the right to disrespect her.
Scene 4 — The Confrontation
The atmosphere becomes heavier. Bethany tries to remain calm.
BETHANY: I didn’t disrespect Brooke for no reason.
SHARRA: I don’t care what excuse you think you have.
BETHANY: You should care about the whole story before coming to my house and accusing me.
Sharra’s voice becomes louder.
SHARRA: My daughter was hurt!
Bethany pauses.
SHARRA: And now I’m standing right here asking you one simple question.
Sharra stares directly into Bethany’s eyes.
SHARRA: How dare you disrespect my daughter?
Bethany looks surprised by Sharra’s intensity.
BETHANY: Excuse me?
SHARRA: You heard me.
Sharra’s voice is firm and emotional.
SHARRA: How dare you speak to Brooke the way you did?
Bethany folds her arms again.
BETHANY: Brooke isn’t a child.
SHARRA: She doesn’t have to be a child to be my daughter.
Bethany remains silent.
SHARRA: She is my daughter, Bethany.
Sharra points firmly at herself.
SHARRA: Mine.
Then she points toward Bethany.
SHARRA: Not yours.
Bethany’s expression tightens.
BETHANY: I never said she was mine.
SHARRA: Then stop acting like you have the right to control her life.
Scene 5 — Sharra Sets The Boundary
Bethany looks away for a moment.
BETHANY: I was only trying to deal with the situation.
SHARRA: That is not your responsibility.
Bethany looks back at her.
BETHANY: And what exactly is your responsibility?
SHARRA: Taking care of Brooke.
Sharra’s voice softens for a brief moment.
SHARRA: Guiding her. Protecting her. Being there for her when she needs me.
Her expression quickly becomes serious again.
SHARRA: That is my job as her mother.
BETHANY: So what? You’re saying I should never say anything to her?
