1. A Secret Meeting at the Church
The church was almost completely empty that evening. Outside, the last light of sunset faded behind the trees while a soft wind moved through the quiet streets. Inside, only a few dim lights remained on.
Larry entered through the side door and slowly walked toward the sanctuary. He had barely taken a few steps when he saw Sharra standing near the back pews.
Neither of them had expected to see the other there.
But tonight was not about their disagreements, their complicated history, or the painful things that had happened between them.

2. The News That Terrified Them
Sharra’s eyes were already filled with tears when Larry approached. She lowered her voice and told him what she had learned.
Larry froze.
He had spent so much time worrying about Brooke’s relationship with Isaiah, but hearing that she was now willing to abandon her education completely made the situation feel far more serious.

Larry and Sharra quietly approached the church father, who was preparing to leave the sanctuary.

Sharra struggled to speak through her tears.

Larry bowed his head.
For a moment, he said nothing.

He asked God to protect Brooke from making a decision she would regret. He prayed that the pain Isaiah had caused would not become the reason Brooke destroyed the future she had worked so hard to build.
Larry’s voice eventually became audible.
His voice trembled.

When the prayer finally ended, nobody immediately stood.
