Dave Finally Tastes Amber’s Cooking
Dave Finally Tastes Amber’s Cooking and D’Nisha’s Food Makes the Whole Kitchen Awkward Real Fast
The party was already getting busy when Amber walked into the kitchen carrying a big dish of food. She looked proud but also a little nervous because she knew everyone was waiting to see what she had made.
Dave was standing near the counter talking to a few people when he noticed Amber walking toward him.
Dave: “Hold on. Is that food?”
Amber: “Yes. I cooked.”
Dave: “You actually cooked?”
Amber rolled her eyes and smiled. She had been hearing Dave tell her that she needed to start cooking more often, so tonight she wanted to prove that she could actually do it.
Amber: “I told you I was going to start cooking more.”
Dave: “Okay then. I need to see what you got.”
Amber opened the dish and proudly showed him the food. Dave picked up a plate and took his first bite. For a moment he didn’t say anything.
Amber: “Don’t judge it before you taste it.”
Dave: “I’m not judging. I’m just hungry.”
Dave took another bite and suddenly stopped. Amber immediately noticed his expression.
Amber: “What?”
Dave: “It’s a little salty.”
Amber: “Salty?”
Amber couldn’t believe it. She had worked hard on the food and Dave’s first real comment was about the salt.
Amber: “I worked hard on this.”
Dave: “I know you did. I’m not saying it’s terrible.”
Amber: “You basically just said it’s terrible.”
Everyone nearby started laughing. Dave tried to explain that he was only giving Amber honest advice.
Dave: “I’m trying to give you constructive criticism.”
Amber: “Well maybe I don’t need your criticism.”
Dave: “You’re going to need it if you’re going to be cooking for me.”
Before Amber could answer, D’Nisha walked into the kitchen carrying another dish. She placed it on the counter and smiled.
D’Nisha: “I brought some vegan mac and cheese.”
Dave immediately looked interested. Amber looked at D’Nisha and then at Dave, already knowing where this was going.
Dave: “Let me get some.”
Amber: “You just said you were full.”
Dave: “I said your food was salty. I didn’t say I was full.”
Everyone started laughing again. D’Nisha served Dave a small plate. He took one bite and immediately smiled.
Dave: “Now this is good.”
Amber: “So you’re really going to sit here and compliment her food right in front of me?”
Dave: “I’m just saying it’s good.”
Amber was clearly getting annoyed. D’Nisha tried to calm things down before the kitchen turned into a full competition.
D’Nisha: “Girl, don’t make it a competition. I just brought food.”
Amber: “I know. I’m not mad at you.”
Dave: “Amber, I’m not trying to hurt your feelings.”
Amber: “Then what are you trying to do?”
Dave: “I’m trying to help you get better.”
Amber finally calmed down. She realized Dave wasn’t trying to embarrass her, but she still wasn’t ready to let D’Nisha’s mac and cheese win.
Amber: “Fine. Next time I’m making the mac and cheese.”
D’Nisha: “Okay, now this is turning into a competition.”
Just then Wayne walked into the kitchen and immediately noticed everyone laughing and arguing around the food.
Wayne: “What happened?”
Dave: “Amber cooked.”
Wayne: “That’s good.”
Dave: “But it’s a little salty.”
Wayne started laughing while Amber gave him a serious look.
Amber: “Don’t you laugh.”
Wayne: “I ain’t saying nothing.”
Amber looked at Dave and decided she was not going to lose this battle. She wanted another chance to prove herself.
Amber: “Next time you taste my cooking you’re going to ask for seconds.”
Dave: “We’ll see.”
Amber: “No. You’re going to see.”
Dave laughed, but Amber was serious. She had already decided what she was going to cook next.
Dave: “Alright. I’ll give you another chance.”
Amber: “You better.”
As everyone went back to the party, Dave took one more bite of D’Nisha’s mac and cheese. Amber caught him and stared at him.

“Really?”

Dave slowly put the fork down.

“I was just finishing it.”

Amber shook her head and walked away.

“Tomorrow. I’m cooking tomorrow.”

Dave smiled, but Wayne looked at him and quietly said,

“Bro, you might have just started something.”

Dave looked toward Amber.

“Yeah. I think I did.”

And Amber’s expression made it clear that the next meal was going to be a lot more serious than anyone expected.
