She had been accepted into college, had plans for a new beginning, and had a future waiting for her. But heartbreak had convinced Brooke that none of it mattered anymore.
1. Brooke Makes the Unthinkable Decision
The suitcase that had once been packed with excitement now sat untouched beside Brooke’s bedroom door. Her college acceptance letter remained on the desk, folded beneath a stack of clothes she no longer planned to wear. Brooke had made her decision: she was not going to college. She told herself she could not leave Atlanta, could not begin a new life, and could not pretend that Isaiah meant nothing to her. Even though Isaiah had broken her trust, Brooke still loved him deeply. That love had become an emotional prison, and she was willing to sacrifice her education just to remain close to the memories they shared.
2. Hope and Faith Discover the Truth
Hope and Faith noticed something was wrong when they saw Brooke’s college bags still sitting in the hallway. They immediately rushed to their mother, Lacreesha. “Mom, something happened,” Faith said breathlessly. Hope quickly explained that Brooke had fallen deeply in love with Isaiah, but their relationship had collapsed after he broke her trust. Instead of moving forward, Brooke had chosen to abandon her education. Lacreesha stared at them in disbelief. She knew Brooke had been hurting, but she never imagined the heartbreak had become powerful enough to make her throw away her future.
3. Lacreesha Is Left Speechless
Lacreesha slowly lowered herself into a chair. For several seconds, she said nothing. Disappointment battled with sympathy inside her. She wanted to tell Brooke that one person could never be worth sacrificing an entire future. But she also understood what it felt like to watch someone you loved suffer from a broken heart. “She really canceled everything?” Lacreesha finally whispered. Hope nodded. “She says she can’t let Isaiah go.” Lacreesha closed her eyes. She suddenly remembered every time Brooke had seemed strong, confident, and determined. Now that same young woman was willing to give everything away because someone had walked out of her life.
4. Faith Finally Confronts Her Mother
Suddenly, Faith’s expression changed. “Mom, you always use Brooke as an example!” Lacreesha looked at her sharply. Faith continued, her voice shaking with frustration. “Every time we made a mistake, you told us to look at Brooke. You said she was focused. You said she knew what she wanted. You said we should be more like her.” Hope immediately stepped forward. “She’s right. You always compared us to Brooke.” The room became painfully quiet. Lacreesha’s face tightened as the twins’ words hit an emotional nerve.
5. Lacreesha Raises Her Voice
“Enough!” Lacreesha suddenly shouted. Hope and Faith froze. Lacreesha stood and looked directly at both girls. “You don’t get to judge Brooke because she made one terrible decision while her heart is broken!” Faith stared at her mother. “But Mom—” “No!” Lacreesha interrupted. “You don’t know what she is feeling. You don’t know what it is like to believe the person you loved was your entire future.” Her voice softened, but the anger remained. “I may have used Brooke as an example before, but that doesn’t mean I want her to destroy herself now.”
6. Brooke’s Future Hangs in the Balance
Hope lowered her eyes. Faith’s anger slowly disappeared, replaced by guilt. For the first time, all three realized the argument was bigger than who had been right or wrong. Brooke’s future was genuinely at risk. Her college admission, her dreams, her independence, and everything she had worked for could disappear because she could not separate heartbreak from the rest of her life. Lacreesha grabbed her phone. “I’m going to talk to her.” Faith immediately asked, “What if she refuses to listen?” Lacreesha paused. “Then we’ll keep trying.” She knew one conversation might not be enough.
7. The Message That Changes Everything
Lacreesha reached for her phone and prepared to call Brooke. But before she could press the button, Brooke’s name suddenly appeared on the screen. It wasn’t a call. It was a message. Lacreesha opened it, and her expression instantly changed. Hope and Faith moved closer. “What did she say?” Faith asked. Lacreesha didn’t answer. Her hands began trembling as she read the message again. Brooke wasn’t asking for forgiveness. She wasn’t asking for advice. She was telling them she had made another decision. Lacreesha slowly looked at the twins. “This isn’t about Isaiah anymore,” she whispered. Hope’s face went pale. “Then what is it about?” Lacreesha looked back at Brooke’s message. For a moment, nobody moved. Then Lacreesha whispered the words that made both twins freeze: “We have to find Brooke before she leaves.”
