Golden sunlight spills through the large windows, filling the living room with a warm glow. The house is unusually quiet. Dave stands near the kitchen counter, checking something on his phone when the doorbell suddenly rings.
Dave looks toward the front door with confusion. He puts his phone down and walks over to answer it.
When he opens the door, Evelyn is standing outside. She looks nervous, but there is determination in her eyes.
DAVE
Evelyn? What are you doing here?
Evelyn walks inside without answering immediately. Dave closes the door behind her and watches her carefully.
EVELYN
I came because I need to talk to you.
DAVE
About what?
Evelyn takes a slow breath. She looks directly into Dave’s eyes.
EVELYN
About Amber.
Dave immediately becomes serious.
DAVE
What about Amber?
Evelyn’s expression changes. Jealousy and frustration are clearly visible on her face. She takes several steps closer to Dave.
EVELYN
Why do you love Amber so much?
DAVE
Evelyn, that’s not something you need to worry about.
EVELYN
Oh, really? Because from where I’m standing, Amber gets everything from you.
DAVE
That’s not true.
EVELYN
Then answer me. Is she better than me, Dave?
Dave stares at Evelyn for a moment. He realizes that this conversation is becoming more serious than he expected.
DAVE
This isn’t about who’s better. It’s about how I feel.
EVELYN

DAVE
It’s about the fact that I care about Amber.
Evelyn looks away. Her eyes become emotional.

DAVE

Evelyn moves closer. Dave becomes uncomfortable and takes a small step backward.
DAVE
You need to calm down.
EVELYN

DAVE
Because you’re crossing a line.
Evelyn stops for a moment. The tension between them becomes intense. She looks hurt, but she refuses to leave.
EVELYN
Maybe I wouldn’t have to cross the line if you hadn’t pushed me away.
DAVE
I never promised you anything.
EVELYN
But you made me believe there was something between us.
DAVE
That’s not what I wanted.
Evelyn suddenly reaches toward Dave. Dave immediately steps away.
DAVE
Evelyn, stop.
Silence fills the room.

You really think Amber is the one?
DAVE

DAVE

INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – FRONT DOOR – MOMENTS LATER
Neither Dave nor Evelyn notices that the front door has opened.
Amber walks inside carrying her purse. She takes only a few steps before suddenly stopping.
Amber sees Dave and Evelyn standing extremely close to each other. Her face immediately changes. She is completely shocked by what she is seeing.
AMBER
Dave?
Dave spins around. His eyes widen when he sees Amber standing there.
DAVE
Amber!
AMBER
What is going on here?
DAVE
Amber, wait. It’s not what you think.
AMBER
Wait? I walk in here and see you standing like this with Evelyn, and you’re telling me to wait?
Amber’s voice trembles. She looks from Dave to Evelyn, trying to understand what she has just witnessed.
DAVE
It’s not what it looks like.
AMBER
Then what am I supposed to think?
DAVE
Evelyn came here to talk to me.
AMBER
About what?
DAVE

Dave nods. He takes a careful step toward Amber.

She asked me why I love you so much.
Amber’s expression softens for a moment, but the shock on her face remains.

Dave looks directly into Amber’s eyes.

Dave doesn’t hesitate.

I told her that I love you.
Amber becomes emotional. She looks down for a moment before looking back at Dave.

Then why were you two standing so close?
DAVE
Because Evelyn was getting emotional. She kept asking me questions and getting closer to me.
DAVE
I told her to stop. I told her she was crossing a line.
AMBER
Did she touch you?
DAVE
No.
Amber looks toward Evelyn.

Evelyn remains silent. Her silence says more than words could.
DAVE
Amber, I didn’t invite her here for anything like that.

Then why didn’t you call me?
Dave takes a deep breath. He knows Amber has every reason to be upset.
DAVE
Because I didn’t think this conversation would turn into this.
AMBER
You should have told me.
DAVE
You’re right.
Dave slowly reaches for Amber’s hand.
DAVE
I’m sorry you had to see that.
AMBER
I’m not just angry, Dave. I’m hurt.
DAVE
I understand.

Evelyn watches the two of them. She realizes that Dave’s decision is final.
EVELYN
Dave…
DAVE
No, Evelyn. This needs to stop.
EVELYN
So that’s it?
DAVE
Yes.
EVELYN
You choose Amber?
Dave looks at Amber before answering. His voice is calm and certain.
DAVE
I already chose her.
Evelyn’s eyes become watery. She grabs her purse and walks toward the door.
EVELYN
I hope you’re happy, Dave.
Dave doesn’t respond. Evelyn walks out and closes the door behind her.
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
Silence fills the room.
Amber slowly turns toward Dave. She is still trying to process everything that happened.
AMBER
Can I trust you?
Dave holds her gaze.
DAVE
Yes.
DAVE
And I’m going to prove it to you.
Amber slowly takes his hand. Her emotions are still strong, but she can see the sincerity in Dave’s eyes.
DAVE
I’m not going to let anyone come between us.
Amber doesn’t answer immediately. She simply looks at Dave, knowing that what happened today may have changed everything between them.
