Ruh Runs Away in the Middle of the Night

Ruh Runs Away in the Middle of the Night

The house was completely quiet. It was late at night, and everyone was supposed to be asleep. But Ruh was wide awake, sitting on the edge of her bed with tears in her eyes. She kept thinking about the morning and what Larry had told her.

Larry had made it very clear that he was going to make sure she went to school. Ruh felt trapped.

She knew that running away was a serious decision, but at that moment, she couldn’t think of anything else. She quietly grabbed her belongings, opened the door, and slipped out of the house before anyone could notice.

Her heart was pounding as she walked through the quiet streets.

Ruh:
“I just need to get somewhere safe. I can’t deal with Larry right now.”

She kept looking behind her, afraid that Larry might wake up and realize she was gone.

After a long walk, Ruh finally reached her mother’s house. She knocked softly on the door. A few moments later, her mother opened it. She immediately looked surprised to see Ruh standing there so late at night.

Mom:
“Ruh?! What are you doing here at this hour?”

Ruh couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.

Ruh:
“Mom, please let me come inside.”

Her mother stepped aside, allowing her to enter.

Mom:
“Of course, come in. But tell me what happened. Why did you come here so late at night?”

Ruh wiped her tears and took a deep breath.

Ruh:
“I ran away.”
Mom:
“You ran away? From where?”
Ruh:
“From home.”

Her mother stared at her, completely confused.

Mom:
“Why would you do something like that? Did something happen?”

Ruh looked down at the floor.

Ruh:
“It’s Larry.”
Mom:
“What about Larry?”

Ruh’s voice began to shake.

Ruh:
“He keeps telling me that he’s going to send me to school. I told him I don’t want to go right now, but he won’t listen to me.”
Mom:
“Ruh, going to school isn’t a reason to run away.”

But Ruh quickly shook her head.

Ruh:
“It’s not just that, Mom. He keeps threatening me. I’m scared of what he might do.”
Mom:
“What exactly did he say to you?”

Ruh hesitated before answering.

Ruh:
“He told me I had no choice. He said I was going to school whether I liked it or not. Mom, I feel like he might hurt me if I refuse.”

Her mother stared at her in disbelief.

Mom:
“You really think Larry would hurt you?”

Ruh nodded while tears rolled down her cheeks.

Ruh:
“I don’t know what he’s capable of anymore. That’s why I left. I was scared.”

For a moment, the room became completely silent.

Her mother was angry—not only because Ruh had run away in the middle of the night, but because she felt that Ruh had put herself in a dangerous situation.

Mom:
“Do you understand how dangerous it was to leave the house alone at this hour?”
Ruh:
“I know, Mom. But I didn’t know where else to go.”
Mom:
“You should have called me! You should have told me what was happening instead of disappearing!”

Ruh started crying harder.

Ruh:
“I was afraid you wouldn’t believe me.”

That sentence made the situation even more emotional.

Mom:
“Ruh, I’m your mother. You should always come to me when you’re afraid.”
Ruh:
“I just wanted somewhere I felt safe.”

Her mother became overwhelmed by anger and frustration. In the heat of the moment, she slapped Ruh.

Ruh froze. She slowly touched her cheek, tears filling her eyes.

Ruh:
“Mom… why did you hit me?”

Her mother immediately realized how far her anger had gone. The room fell silent again.

Her mother looked at Ruh, still angry but now visibly conflicted.

Mom:
“I was angry because you scared me. You can’t just disappear like that.”
Ruh:
“I didn’t run away because I wanted to hurt anyone. I ran because I was scared.”

Her mother took a deep breath.

Mom:
“Then we need to figure this out properly.”

Ruh sat down on the couch, exhausted from everything that had happened.

Ruh:
“What am I supposed to do now?”

Her mother sat across from her.

Mom:
“First, you’re staying here tonight. Tomorrow, we’re going to talk about everything calmly. But running away isn’t the answer.”

Ruh nodded quietly.

For the first time that night, she felt like someone was actually listening to her.

But the situation was far from over.

Larry would soon discover that Ruh had disappeared. And when he found out that she had gone to her mother’s house, the tension between them was only going to get worse.

The next morning could bring a confrontation that none of them were prepared for.
