Scene 1 — Living Room — Evening
The front door opens. Eveline steps inside and looks around. The moment she sees Dave, her face lights up with happiness. Dave turns toward her, surprised to see her.
EVELINE: Dave! I didn’t expect to see you so soon.
She walks toward him with a warm smile.
DAVE: Eveline… what are you doing here?
Eveline looks at him affectionately.
EVELINE: I just wanted to see you.
Dave smiles awkwardly. The two continue talking, unaware that someone else will soon return home.
Scene 2 — Moments Later
Eveline moves closer to Dave, clearly trying to get his attention. Dave hesitates for a moment.
EVELINE: You seem surprised to see me.
DAVE: I am. Amber isn’t home right now.
Eveline glances toward the hallway.
EVELINE: Then maybe we can have some time to talk privately.
Dave looks uncertain, but eventually follows her toward the bedroom. The atmosphere becomes tense as they disappear down the hallway.
Scene 3 — The Bedroom
The bedroom door closes. Eveline and Dave continue their private conversation. Their closeness creates an uncomfortable sense of secrecy.
DAVE: Eveline, I think we should be careful.
EVELINE: Why? We’re only talking.
Dave looks conflicted. Before he can respond, the sound of a car pulling into the driveway is heard outside. Neither of them notices.
Scene 4 — Amber Comes Home
Amber’s car arrives. Amber gets out and walks toward the house, carrying her belongings after returning from work. She looks tired but happy to be home. She unlocks the door.
AMBER: Dave? I’m home.
No answer. She puts her things down and looks around.
AMBER: Dave?
Silence. Amber’s expression changes from relaxed to confused. She checks the living room. Nothing. She walks toward the kitchen.
AMBER: Dave, where are you?
Still no response.
Scene 5 — The Bedroom Door
Amber walks through the hallway. She checks another room. Empty. Her concern grows.
AMBER: This is strange…
She looks toward the bedroom. The bedroom door is closed. Amber slowly walks toward it. Her footsteps echo through the quiet hallway. Amber reaches the door. She places her hand on the handle. She pauses. For a moment, she hears voices from inside. Her expression immediately changes.
AMBER: Dave?
No answer. Amber slowly opens the door.
Scene 6 — What Amber Finds
The door swings open. Amber freezes. Standing inside are Eveline and Dave. Amber’s eyes widen in complete shock. Eveline immediately turns toward the doorway. Dave looks equally stunned. For several seconds, nobody says anything. The silence is heavy.
AMBER: Eveline?
Her voice trembles with disbelief. Eveline takes a step back.
EVELINE: Amber… I can explain.
Amber looks from Eveline to Dave. Her expression changes from shock to anger and disappointment.
AMBER: Explain what?
Dave tries to speak.
DAVE: Amber, please listen to me.
AMBER: Listen to you?
Amber lets out a bitter laugh.
AMBER: I came home looking for you. I checked every room in this house.
She points toward the hallway.
AMBER: And you were here the entire time.
Dave lowers his eyes.
DAVE: It isn’t what you think.
Amber looks directly at him.
AMBER: Then tell me what it is.
Dave struggles to answer. Eveline steps forward.
EVELINE: This wasn’t supposed to happen.
Amber turns toward her.
AMBER: Then why did it happen?
Eveline becomes silent. The tension in the room rises.
Scene 7 — No Excuses
Amber takes a deep breath, trying to control her emotions.
AMBER: I trusted you, Dave.
DAVE: Amber…
AMBER: Don’t.
She raises her hand, stopping him.
AMBER: Right now, I don’t want excuses.
Dave remains silent. Eveline looks uncomfortable.
EVELINE: Amber, I’m sorry.
Amber looks at her for a long moment.
AMBER: Sorry doesn’t erase what I just saw.
She turns back toward Dave.
AMBER: You knew exactly what this would do to me.
Dave looks devastated by her words.
DAVE: I made a mistake.
Amber shakes her head.
AMBER: A mistake is forgetting something.
She pauses.
AMBER: This was a choice.
Silence fills the bedroom. Amber walks toward the door. Dave follows her with his eyes.
DAVE: Where are you going?
Amber stops at the doorway. She doesn’t turn around.
AMBER: I need to think.
Dave takes a step toward her.
DAVE: Please don’t leave like this.
Amber finally turns around.
AMBER: Then maybe you should have thought about that before I opened this door.
Her words leave Dave speechless. Amber walks out of the bedroom.
Scene 8 — Driving Away
Amber walks down the hallway, fighting back her emotions. Dave remains standing in the bedroom doorway. Eveline looks at him.
EVELINE: Dave…
Dave doesn’t answer. He watches Amber disappear toward the front door. The consequences of what happened are finally beginning to sink in.
Amber steps outside. She stops for a moment and looks back at the house. Her expression is filled with disappointment and uncertainty. Inside, Dave stands alone near the bedroom doorway. Amber walks toward her car. The door closes. The car drives away. Dave watches helplessly from the window.
Dave slowly turns away from the window. Eveline remains silent. Neither knows what to say. The house that once felt peaceful now feels completely different.
